Crim's Humble Opinion Curator
A Mixing Pot of Genres
The ever growing and ever changing battle royale genre is never really a game I'm fully behind at the start. However the idea to take that genre and put it with metroidvania which is a style of game I relatively enjoy was an excellent breath of fresh air to the over used mechanic. Battle Royale gameplay is pretty standard as far as what's understood as the formula elements at play. You pit a bunch of players against each other in either team or solo format. In this instance you are dropped into a metroidvania style map. There is the mist which forces players to continue moving towards a focal point. One of the interesting additions to this is the king of the hill style element attached to the end of the round. Players not only have to survive each other but make sure that at the end of the game they don't let someone sneak into the winning area. There is a nice variety of weapon types and skills that can be found around the map. There is a monetary system with items; but these are all vanity items and in no way give players advantages over other players.
The Minor Gripes
As most multiplayer only games that are just starting out and trying to get out there; the audience isn't huge; so you might have some issues getting into a game or run into the same people a lot. There is still a pretty nice base of players it seems though. My longest wait time was about three and a half minutes to find a game. Most games though there are not enough people to play with a team though which is a little disappointing. There isn't really a major musical background present which makes things feel a bit empty. I enjoy some atmosphere music at the least and with the variety of areas it is definitely something that can be implemented. Everything else I experienced was really minor things such as a female character having a male voice after switching or not being able to explore the menus while waiting for a game. These are issues I imagine may be able to be easily fixed.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ pros ♥
+Interesting mix of genres +Nice art +Variety of weapons and skills
(っ>▬<)っ x cons x
-Limited Player Base -No Real Soundtrack Present
As far as battle royale style games it tends to stick on the safe side not really doing too much new other than introducing it into a genre. It is still a really fun idea and plays on the appeal of "you may not like battle royale, but if you enjoy metroidvania...". I can never stick with battle royale games long because they are just not my cup of tea; but I do enjoy metroidvania games and this particular title is something I can see myself coming back to especially if it grows a bit more. I'll keep this short. Simply put, this game is amazing and a lot of fun to play. Think Castlevania meets Dark Souls meets the battle royale genre. Combat is very skill-based, and team positioning can make or break an engagement. Soulfire is monetized in-game with 100% cosmetic purchases, providing the player with a wealth of skins and colors to customize their character. At no point can the player purchase something to provide an advantage. The development team listens to their players and are always putting their best foot forward. I can't recommend this game enough; buy it now and get in early because this game is going to get big!
Genre - 2D Battle Royale I am a massive fan of the concept of Battle Royale but have struggled to find a game that doesn't have some crazy building mechanic or just turn into a Twitch Shooter at the end of the game, with campers always winning the round. This game actually has an interesting loot and combat system, that allowed me to get to the end on both games I played. You will be put into random dungeons and fight away from the killer mist to the centre and escape. Of course when I did the usual frantic action ensued, ending with my death and in one case the death of the person who chased after me. If you have played some of the modern 2D sword fighting games, you should be able to handle yourself quite well. There is a lot of opportunity to get equipped before your first fight and a lot of items to turn the tide of battle, if used correctly, All in game purchases seem to be cosmetic only and there is plenty of opportunity to unlock stuff just by playing the game. It is only EA at the moment but the idea is great and seems fairly balanced. There is potential to add a load more items. Maybe some traps and AI monsters would be nice to spice up the map, Also if they could find a way to make the end game even more interesting, that'd be appreciated! Although no Battle Royale game has managed to do that yet...
Tried it. Stuck at the tutorial, because I am supposed to drink a healing potion, which is impossible with full life. Retried: Same issue. Afterwards I could not even open a match. No other lobbies online. Had a female character and wasn´t able to change that. Unplayable at he moment. Asking for refund.
There is no reason to spend $7 on a dead game whose developer abandoned it by the time it fully launched. No players online at any time and a fully monetized cash shop with battle pass and cosmetics.
Don't mistake this game with the comics. Soulfire gives the flexibility of playing between keyboard (with mouse) or controllers, and is a side-scroller combat game. The games start you in a dungeon with tutorials and a practice level before you really get into the combat. My overall experience playing was smooth, bug-free and lag-free with some interesting dialect from the characters. Once I got into the real thing, I'm a marking on the map in a dungeon with other players. It's a lot of scavenging to find weapons and gear before the combat can really happen. Like other battle royale games like PUBG and H1Z1, your chances of survival can be completely RNG-based on the loot you find vs what the other players have equipped. You have a map provided too, which will tell you where the chests and other players are. so there's no element of surprise attacks there. I can't really comment on how the community is, with the lack of VC and chat, but you will experience some good matches, and some unforgiving ones. But with no toxic experiences so far, it's honestly one of the few battle royale games on Steam that I can safely recommend to others, and even new players of the genre.
This game reminds me of my childhood SEGA console games, old-school combined with the new battle royale modes ( there have been in the past few years a few games in flash and java etc with battle royale sort of ,2d fighting stick-men etc lol but not as good as this one though ) The soundtrack is nice, the fighting also, design if you like games like this one, Darkest Dungeon etc is also lovely. The gameplay ,well, this is what Prince of Persia meets PUBG would've been hah, very nice gameplay. CONs - only the players count, but that will rise more and more since this is a new game so you will find players more often in the future. Even as i'm writing this the game has plenty players but waiting few minutes for a queue will be a few seconds only ,in the future, when more people find this unique gem. And remember praise the Sun ! (or for my redbros and blue sentinels, praise the FUN )
