This game is a fun time that suffers from poor level design and boss design...but its not bad Somnabuster has a fun platformer vibe, the art direction is pretty and the music is nice, I think the story is alright and its simple as it, but the game suffers from many minor things Instant death from falling in pits is normal but theres so MANY and the camera is bad at telling what is death and what you can go down it feels like you get cheaped out of lives many times, healing in the game is very interesting and its fine but becomes an issue with boss fights. Boss fights in this game are extremely punishing because you simply cant heal, you get four hit points and thats it, feels like you rely on your lives than anything else, it just makes every boss fight really unfun and frustrating because of how harsh you get punished, it feels like MANY things cheap you out of hits and deaths. With that being said i feel the core game itself is fine, its an okay time with some annoying designs and poor level construction (mainly with the background and foreground blending together sometimes) and I would only recommend the game if it was on sale really, I really wanna love this game but sadly it suffers from issues that hinder its vibe...but not enough to say I wouldn't recommend it 6.8/10
SomnaBuster -Recommended- Gameplay: Platformer Gameplay Rating: Pretty Good Story Rating: Decent Soundtrack Rating: Pretty Good Achievement Difficulty: 2 Additional Thoughts: Overall a pretty good retro feeling platformer that invokes SEGA Genesis vibes. my only gripe about this game is how easily it is to get attached to the roof when trying to move about stages. but its still pretty neat that you can attach to the roof and move about the stage that way.

This game is fantastic. No idea why it isn’t more popular, with hundreds of thousands of sales already. Just goes to show that some great games are buried under the mountain of stuff released on Steam every day. I actually found it after trying the demo for the developer’s upcoming game. I saw it in ShmupsBR’s “upcoming games” video, loved what I saw, and decided to check out Somnabuster. Ended up falling in love with it. The art style is gorgeous, the controls are super responsive, the levels are (mostly, more on that later) really fun, and each new world has something fresh to offer. That said, I do have a few gripes. World 5 drove me nuts, not because it’s hard, but because it’s full of leap-of-faith moments where you only figure things out after dying a few times. And the ending? Without spoiling anything, it felt like one of those JRPG finales with multiple back-to-back battles. I was just getting boss fight after boss fight in a platformer, which kind of killed the excitement for me. A couple of smaller complaints too: the spin jump takes a few frames to kick in, so you can get hit just because the animation hasn’t fully started yet. And the “stocks” in boss fights feel pointless, getting a GAME OVER only sends you to a menu before retrying, which just wastes time. Still, this game is great. I’ve already gifted it to two friends and plan to give it to more. Way more people should give it a shot.
pretty good but the art style makes it kinda hard to tell npcs from enemies, or tools from enemies or even just platform decorations from dangerous spikes. generally it's rarely clear what anything does just by the look of it which is kinda important for this type of platfomer. sometimes there's a secret down below and you need to jump to check, sometimes there isn't and you just die, and that's indicated i think by like a 5x5 pixel danger sign the same color as the sky and everything else. basically the style itself is cute but the visual presentation of the levels could be way better and coherent imo
Truly impressive hidden gem. I am someone who is a little more skeptical of indie games than a lot of people, as I feel like they generally get graded on a curve by people. However, this game truly is special. It can compete with absolute classics like ristar or mischief makers.
This game is so damn fun I love it, never felt frustrated with it at any point even though I suck at it. There is no reason for this game to be as underrated as it is. The movement is fun and satisfying to control, the music is good, the visuals are great (I saw some people complaining about visual clarity in this game but I never found that to be an issue at all idk), and the cutscenes and dialogue are hilarious. Play this game it's absolutely worth it.
This game physics and controls are really fun to play with and the story is heartfelt. If you are a fan of platformers, I heavily encourage you to check out this game.
under a 100 reviews is crazy Absolute cinema
Cute artwork with great character designs, pretty heartwarming story, boppin' OST, really fun gameplay with nice movement mechanics that make stage traversal a blast once you come to grips with the tech, and an incentive to improve with things to unlock in the same vein as Sonic CD (improving your total stage clear time). Not all too long, so I'd say it's very much worth getting, especially if you're in the mood for something that feels like it'd be right at home on the Mega Drive/Genesis.
Short and sweet game with a smooth control scheme. I really respect the honest and accurate homage to old Genesis-era platformers and arcade games. Each level has a unique song and gimmick, so my initial playthrough (around 1 and a half hours) never got too stale.
