Holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is TRAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!! From the great minds that brought you the greatness that is "Redcon" comes this pile of smoking trash.. somehow...... When first launched it seems promising but the problem is - on it's first stride it just goes nowhere and falls flat on it's face. You've played first 3 minutes - you've seen it all; And I wish I was joking. In my many an encounter with various games and genres I have rarely (if ever) hit such a specimen. I mean developer seems to not really know what makes schmup a schmup. See if this still feels like something you want to waste your time on (I suggest you don't), because after self-deceiving myuself for ~3 missions, the only thought filling my mind was "just pleeeease let this torture EEEND!". Such is life of a completionist... I'll just list the issues in severity from worst to small-worst: * The levels are absurdly long. Possibly 20 minutes of no-save, no checkpoint trudge. * Levels are barren. It's just a long wallpaper scrolling in the background with no impact or relation to the gameplay. Might as well been a black void in the background. No height differences, no obstacles to avoid, zilch. * Guns suck. The reload system feels retarded and unmitigatable - you just have your guns jam at the worst possible moment with seemingly no fault of your own (see jets'n'guns for a good firepower-limit solution devs); some gun combos shoot together, others don't. Because consistency. And all weapons essentially feel the same. * You know how every game nowadays has the meta-progression: you die, you get to keep some cash, you upgrade, you come back stronger. Same here? Hell no! Some genius came up with the idea of reverse progression - you die, you loose some part of your upgrade sub-system. Sounds fun? Fk no! * Enemies are repetitive. No interesting attack patterns. And they all look kinda the same. * The UI is clunky as hell. It's recommended to play with a controller, but boy oh buy, good luck navigating the confusing layout and bass-ackwards button mappings in game and menus (not remappable. of course. Why? Would expect to be able to? pfffft, frking weirdo.) * Enemy waves are uneven. There are moments where you are swarmed with enemies and then for no reason it's 20-30s of nothing, just slowly flying forward. * Music kinda sucks and is repetitive af, there's probably like 2-3tracks max. Which is fun, when as I'vementiond - mission length is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane. * Generally it's mostly unchallenging. * Story generic and uninspired. Ending was an exposition dump which was like.. who even does that?! People tend to not know how to wrap up their stories, and just finish abruptly with "lived happily ever after". Here "lived happily ever after" feels like a history tractate - mostly stuff having nothing to do with anything. * and so on and forth.. but I'm vented and bored now, and so are you. Good things? Dunno. It looks nice. Not "OMG-it's-so-beautiful". Just nice. Pleasing to the eye.
I've followed Hexage for a while and I've enjoyed their other games, and this one is no exception. It shares a lot of elements with Reaper the Pale Swordsman and at the same time is very different. I think this game is not actually in early access anymore, they're still updating it, but for all intents and purposes the game is complete, so I'm not sure why it's still marked as early access. (they probably explain it somewhere like in their Discord or something) All in all a very fun game, and a real challenge at certain points, the plethora of ship, weapon, and ability options are very fun to explore and figure out what works for your play-style or a particular mission, although I do feel that some of them are definitely better than others and some are worse.
I have a Ultimarc arcade joystick that output as a keyboard. Since this game has zero button remapping for the keyboard this game is useless. Why releasing this game on PC? Go back to making games for consoles and leave us alone.
This game could be interesting first of all for those who has children, to spend some time together smashing aliens
goat
Amazingly clean aesthetic, engrossing story, and of course the gameplay is super solid. It's much harder to find shmups with actual upgrades to buy and this certainly delivers.
I liked story
Fun indie game with plenty of replayability. The controls feel great and the gameplay is a nice twist on the bullet hell genre.
