solitaire quest: garden story is yet another generic +1/-1 card game that doesn't offer anything new but it was supposed to be a welcome change after the endless lazy suricate (jewel match) and 8floor reskins, if they even bother to change the skin at all. the garden theme is not really for me but I'll take anything over atlantis for the billionth time. I thought the dev would be a welcome change too. boy, was I wrong. I found a bunch of issues outlined below, but instead of fixing them (shouldn't take long in competent hands), they told me of their 15-year experience and intentional design decisions based on all sorts of player feedback. no idea who would think some of these are in any way convenient, acceptable or should be a standard, making games for a casual audience shouldn't mean throwing common sense out the window. no wonder you can't tell these games apart, it's as if they were all made by the same hivemind (or probably for the same hivemind). I thought these guys were new on the scene, would explain a lot, but they're just as bad as suricate. call themselves playzzy, the 'p' must be silent. 200 levels, a good amount, doesn't overstay its welcome. one level unlocked at a time but besides the stars themselves, a different color should indicate imperfect levels so they're easier to find on level select. 4 ways to play to please everybody, with optional per-turn or per-level timer or untimed with extra cards. it can be changed anytime. the optional in-game help explains what you already know. grab crystals hidden under cards, some are frozen, locked, etc. they really went overboard with the annoying 'face changes after x turns' nonsense. grabbing the crystals is enough for 3 stars most of the time, except when it's not. it must be based on the number of cards left, not mentioned anywhere of course, nor is there an on-screen star progress. there's an illustrated diary and some dialog with a paper-thin narrative and a garden to decorate with the crystals. they're 'upgrades' and have to be bought in order, can't go straight for the one you actually want to see. endless mode unlocks after about 30 levels and not only is it endless but also pointless. unlimited deck, no undo, no shop, a tiny bit of extra cash. as soon as the board starts to clear, more cards appear, enjoy if you can. power-ups are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. shuffle, turn cards up, etc. bought from the shop, only accessible from a level, as they're all per-level and used instantly, except jokers and wildcards, which are lost at the end of the level whether you used them or not. also, can't use the spade to remove a card if there's only one left, last altogether or the others locked, defeating the very purpose of that power-up. shuffle is very conditional as well, even if there are plenty of cards to mix up, 5 is apparently not enough. and they went even further: everything gets more and more expensive with each purchase throughout the game. instant consumables with an ever-increasing price tag, genius. but wait, there's more. offering 5 extra cards for 100 gold at the end of an incomplete level is a very mobiley but potentially helpful thing to do, except there's no confirmation and the button is right under the last card, in the upper half. another example of stellar game design, a misclick losing you a bunch of money. I've lost count by now but here's another never-before-seen idiocy: undo changes the next card. missed matching the 7, you see the next is a king, undo, match the 7, draw next card and it won't be the king again. are you serious? achievements are bugged as well. don't care personally but the one for completing 50 levels with 3 stars popped after 35. and they only appear outside levels, not when conditions are actually met (or not met, as it were). navigation is awkward but still nowhere near the nonsense one has to deal with in jewel match solitaire. game mode selection comes up when starting a new game but there's no confirm button, gotta close the window to continue. there are single screens of text with a skip button when it should say continue, there's nothing to skip. and the level complete screen should have more buttons (menu, map, garden) and continue shouldn't lead to the garden every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time, whether you can upgrade something or not, but load the next level. as you'd expect, the game is very pleasing to the eye, except for the very basic main font. there are a few card customization options, separate volumes, a non-resizable but much smaller windowed mode, game cursor toggle, in-game representation of achievements and multiple player profiles. unfortunately, settings aren't accessible from the pause menu, gotta go back to the main menu to adjust volumes, and progress is stored in the registry, the worst possible place. don't even dream about cloud saves. and esc doesn't bring up the pause menu because why would it? all things and questionable decisions considered, it's a whole lot worse than most other games in the genre and the bar isn't exactly high. since it evidently won't get the extra attention it badly needs, not even basic grammar fixes, it's not something to recommend. not sure why loading a level takes so long either. my pc is ancient but not as much as the system requirements and come on, it's a very basic card game that should work on a broken toaster. tried it on more recent hardware, no problem there (except for deliberately slow animations when levels get laid out), but it still gets the award for worst performance in a solitaire ever. 15 years of 'extensive experience' my ass.
I was holding off writing a review for this game as the ending had a bug that preventing completion but I am happy to say it is now fixed and the garden can be complete and all the achievements earned. I did not want to write a bad review for this game as it was fun. It gave me a relaxing 8 hours of game-play and no level really gave me too much trouble. Their is a light story to accompany the game and and you can access the in-game shop to purchase extra undo's, jokers, wild-cards, shuffles, double coins and removal of a card (selected or random) at any point in the level. However those shop items will NOT carry over to the next level. It is only for the current level so don't buy a bunch of jokers thinking you have a few to last you. Anything you buy will disappear once the level is complete and you carry on to the next one. Overall a fun game with a good length for a nice price. 🌼
Help your Aunt Diana, transform the garden into a beautiful show piece. But now the Reporter Amanda, has entered you into the local Garden Competition. Do you think you have the expertise to win? Solitaire Quest: Garden Story by Developer Playzzy Games You moved here to help your Aunt Diana restore her overgrown, neglected garden in her absence. There are 2 other characters, Amanda, a newspaper reporter that is good friends with your aunt. Also someone named Steve, who is jealous of your Aunt Diana's success and the awards she's received from her garden endeavors. Steve wants to buy the property, hoping he will win the competition for a change. So, he tries to intimidate you into selling. Don't sell! Instead, clean it up and purchase lovely yard items, with the gems you collect to beautify the yard. Who do you think will win the Garden Competition? Guess you will have to play and find out! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3447946587 Includes a diary, running achievements tracker, and wonderfully relaxing music. But this happy music does get repetitive after awhile. There are beautiful backgrounds, special cards and boosters to chose from. You can buy unique decorative garden items to enjoy while sitting outside having tea. Has 5 game modes: Normal, Timed, Relaxed, Challenge and Endless Mode. If you run out of cards you can buy 5 cards for 100 coins. Then you can play numerous times to help you complete the hand or until you run out of money. Or you can just choose to end the hand and replay it again. You can buy a Joker for $300.-$350. I want 3 stars on all levels so I either, buy more cards with in-game money, restart the hand or buy a Joker. Warning, don't buy a Joker unless you are ready to use it. I bought one for later use and when the hand was over so was my Joker. You will need three stars on each level if you want to get all the gems to finish updating the garden. When you earn in-game achievements, you get bonus money. I did find it a bit frustrating and annoying when SOMETIMES, most of the cards are blocked by roots, on fire, covered in shrubs or need more cards played, to use them as you go through the deck finding cards you are able to play. I have lots of cards I could use if they weren't blocked. Thankfully, that has only happened a couple of times! This one is Steam Deck playable: meaning this game is functional on Steam Deck, but might require extra effort to interact with or configure. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3451005609 Pros: * 200 Levels * Family Sharing * 15 Achievements * Various Game Modes * Beautiful Backgrounds * Endless Solitaire Mode * No Issues using Windows 11 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3456497962 Cons: * No Trading Cards * Profile Features Limited Rating: 8/10 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3456524422 Final Thoughts: Offers a captivating and relaxing adventure, where music and art intertwine to create an incomparable atmosphere. Nice relaxing game suitable for all ages and has an enjoyable story that unwinds while you play. Nicely done backgrounds, relaxing music with lots of activities to do. I was missing 2 gems to complete the game. When looking over the levels, I noticed I missed getting 3 stars on 2 levels. I replayed those 2 levels and got my 2 missing gems. I finished my garden and got the letter telling who had won the Garden Competition. Inexpensive price for this fun filled game, so pick this one up!
I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH I'M PLAYZZYing IT A SECOND TIME🃏
I'm actually kind of picky about Solitaire games because they have to have specific features. Most importantly, it has to allow me to remove all cards (not just special cards) and it has to have the option to replay levels as often as I deem necessary. Solitaire Quest: Garden Story has 200 levels that can be played in a Relaxed, Normal, Timed, or Challenge Mode. It also has an Endless Mode that allows you to play a never-ending game with infinite deck cards. I don't enjoy Timed Modes in a Solitaire game, and I would have loved it if they offered a Hard Mode, which was more challenging than the normal mode but either didn't have a timer or had a way to disable the timer. There are several Obstacles available, such as Frozen Cards that need to be played twice, Ivy Cards that require Garden Shear Cards, Root Covered Cards that require playing Axe Cards, Padlocked Cards that require Key Cards, Fire Cards that require Watering Can Cards, and Wax Seal Cards & Wax Seal Cards of Specific Suits that require you to play red & black or suit specific Cards to remove the seals. As you progress, a whole slew of obstacles are thrown into levels to make them quite challenging! Note: An awesome friend gifted me a copy of this game. ^^ Solitaire Quest: Garden Story is a card solitaire game developed and published by Playzzy Games. You take on the role of an unnamed female character who has just inherited her Aunt Diana's garden, as her aunt has retired from gardening and is now traveling. As you attempt to improve your aunt's rundown garden, Steve, a rival gardener who has lost gardening contests to Aunt Diana, approaches you, sneering your efforts and offering to buy the garden. However, you refuse to rise to the bait, continuing your efforts, and even get encouragement from Amanda, Aunt Diana's close friend who also happens to be a yearly judge of the gardening contests. What will happen? I know I'm leaving this on a cliffhanger, but I don't wish to reveal spoilers and all that. XD As for the gameplay, there are a total of 200 levels in story mode, and you can choose from among four game modes: normal, timed, relax, or challenge. (For review purposes, I chose to play in normal mode.) Endless mode is unlocked after you complete a certain number of levels. You can choose from among various card designs and such. When you start a level, you're given a layout of cards on the board, and the objective is to obtain the required number of flowers, which you obtain by clearing the board of cards. There's a store where you can purchase boosters, such as jokers and the ability to randomly eliminate a card, to help you complete the levels easier. You purchase boosters using coins, which you can earn as you complete levels. The flowers are used to purchase decorations for the garden, and as you purchase a certain number of decorations, part of the story gets unlocked. Also, Steam/in-game achievements are present although they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my thoughts. Every once in a while, I enjoy a relaxing game of solitaire, and Solitaire Quest: Garden Story delivers that. The story is pretty basic, but it's enough to move the game along. There's the typical villain as well as moral support for the MC. However, the main crux of the game is the gameplay. I had no trouble completing most of the levels although those last three levels proved to be a bit challenging, as I had to replay them a few times before I was finally able to obtain all of the required flowers. Although there are no mini-games, unlike some solitaire games, I was never bored while playing through the levels. It's nice getting to play a simple game of solitaire. All of the achievements unlocked for me without any problems. As for the art, it is quite beautiful to gaze at. The cards and backgrounds are lovely, and I especially liked the garden. It was great to witness how purchasing upgrades improved the garden's appearance, and it's fun to customize what decorations you want. In regards to the soundtrack, there's only one track, so I wish that there had been more variety. Regardless, the instrumental track that was present is very relaxing and soothing to listen to, perfect as you play through the levels. Overall, would I recommend Solitaire Quest: Garden Story? If you're looking for a fun, simple, relaxing game of solitaire, then this is worth taking a look. It's pretty doable to complete and earn all of the achievements. For the asking price, I'd say that it's definitely worth it, as it took me about 11 hours to finish the game and such. ^^
If you found this review helpful/useful, please check out The Introverted Gamer.
Susan has a problem. No, it's not drug addiction. A little something to get her through the day isn't that unusual, and she can stop any time she wants. She said so herself. No, Susan's problem is her aunt. You see, Susan's aunt needs help with her run down garden, which has been neglected for a long time since Susan's uncle passed, and Susan's aunt began self-medicating with various substances. Guide Susan as she restores the garden to it's former morning glory, through the magic of solitaire. This is her quest. This is her story. Solitaire Quest: Garden Story If you like the Jewel Match series of solitaire, this might be of interest to you, and if you are the developer, you might feel a bit confused, and are rethinking how you choose to which curators you send games. I guess it's just like solitaire. Sometimes you flip the next card over and it's the ace you were hoping for, and sometimes it's just a packet of instant oatmeal. Maybe it's Quaker® Instant Oatmeal, 100% whole grains, and packed with flavor in every bite. So if you can't get enough solitaire or oatmeal, why not make Solitaire Quest: Garden Story part of your morning routine. Do not operate heavy machinery while playing. "Solitaire Quest: Garden Story" is a solitaire card game with extra features. While it doesn't innovate the genre, it's a fine addition, if you like such games, especially considering its price. Pretty graphics, cute animations and relaxing sounds are there to accompany you on your quest to restore the pretty garden! You can expect powers-ups and minigames to make your gameplay easier and more entertaining on those 200 levels. While you are playing the game, you will earn coins to spend on power-ups, help actions and, most importantly, buying decorations to restore the garden. There is a story to give flavor to the game! On top of that, you get the endless mode after a few levels into the game, in addition to those we already have (normal, timed, relax and challenge). You'll see various mechanics used such as unlock a card by finding the key, unfreeze cards, put the fire out, etc. For more reviews, follow my curator https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44864435-Mewesome-Reviews/
This game was fun with good cartoon graphics for 15 hours. Until the last levels, could not finish the game as there were not enough crystals to finish the garden and find out the ending of the game. If I would have known that I would not have devoted 15 hours of my time I cannot get back. Until the game producers make an update I would not waste the money or time on the game. UPDATE: I just received an update from the producers and after downloading it the game was able to finish. So I commend them for listening to their customer, the game is now officially fun in my opinion
Very relaxing and cute solitaire game .. recommend to anyone who wants a chill out relaxing game
