You access an image database, select an image you want, and then place it. I admit there is a bit more to this game than that, but I didn't feel a desire to interact with it, as this wasn't really a game, and I'm not the type to "play" something where my only goal is to mix together random images in different positions. This is a perfectly fine product, but I just wouldn't recommend it.

Searching Pixabay images only shows up to 20 images per keyword search result; although the store page description says there's "1.8 million images" to pick, and currently, as of this Steam user review, there's over 5 million images according to the Pixabay website, there's no way to go through additional paginations with the same search keywords, limiting to a fraction available. Over time, the same keyword searches will give different results as more images get added to Pixabay.
Certain images when selected when putting into the world just stay 'Loading...', with no way to delete them at all; I had to hide the image by boarding up with existing images instead as a workaround. The broken image I found was a kinda rainbowy egg with some light and dark contrast textures from typing up 'dragon egg', and I wanted it for my first world. This can be a setback and adds additional unnecessary friction to the world-making process. As a workaround for aspiring world creators, spawn images in a location where they shouldn't be seen at all before uploading the world.
When uploading a new or updated world, there's no progress upload bar; there's no way to tell how much time is left to upload it. I thought that reusing most of the images wouldn't incur a large world upload.
It's possible to upload broken worlds where it lacks a thumbnail; relating to the world upload issues, at one point, so after waiting for a minute, assuming that the world filesize on uploading was small, I backed out of the 'Create' section and re-entering it, the words 'Uploading...' reverted back to 'Upload', making me think I canceled the upload, and pressed the 'Upload' button to restart. I checked the list of worlds after waiting, I see both the world I made with the thumbnail, and one without it, and the world without the thumbnail is broken, which when selecting the broken world, it just softlocks through endless loading. I'm unsure if deleting my first world I made also deletes both of them, or only one of them, but I rather not throw away my 3 hours spent making that world.
There's no way to jump to a specific pagination number when browsing through list of uploaded worlds; for me, when wanting to check all of the uploaded worlds, not just the most popular worlds, I wanted to experience worlds that didn't get even a single 'Like', and determine whether if they're overlooked and deserve giving a 'Like' to get out of the 0 likes range.

MY MIXED FEELINGS

Pixabay has AI generated images made by users since April 2023; I seriously rather not use them if possible, and sadly the game doesn't really label them whether if it is AI generated, since this game was released on February 21, 2020. I have mixed feelings because I couldn't find cute dragons back in 2022 when making a dragon world, and when AI generated content was allowed on April 2023 with limitations, most of the cute dragon images I found were possible because of AI generated art. I didn't really realize it until after checking on the Pixabay website, as the only hint during world making was the fire breathing cute dragon that has their lips fwooshed out.
When loading a world, while seeing 'Loading...' images and moving at the same time, it may be possible to phase through the images that were supposed to be solid; on one side, this will likely ruin the intended experience when first entering worlds, but on another side, it increases replayability of checking the world outside of what's intended, which would more likely to work in enclosed areas at the start, which could be a way to hide secret messages or images through this glitch. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3333624477
sok-worlds is a platform for usermade first person art installations to be possible to be shared and explored, something that I appreciate because of I enjoy the process and result of creativity, and that limitations breed creativity from using image assets from Pixabay. Here's my first world that I made, called "Cute dragons!!!" by Ryzzy: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3332522649 While I had fun making my first world, and that for the foreseeable future, I will probably make more worlds from time to time, and explore worlds that are worth giving a 'Like', my overall experience on creating worlds has been mixed, leaning towards negative. There were some issues listed above that are out of my control and a bit much, it's not something I would want other players to experience. I haven't experienced the bug or error on when a user-created world is too big to upload, which would be terrible for people putting a lot of time in their worlds. I'm not sure how confident I am to fully recommend this despite the small price tag, and also because incase the sok-worlds servers disappears, or Pixabay might disappear; the former because my Steam user review on Sokobots pointing out the servers for that game don't exist anymore, and the latter because Pixabay is a dependency, which means the game is pointless when Pixabay disappears. When I came back to the game, I was anticipating this game to be dead like Sokobots, and was fortunate that it isn't.

"sok-worlds" is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. This software is a toolset for making and sharing non-interactive art galleries. You can browse other people's galleries or create your own. Creating your own is a matter of selecting stock art pictures from a gallery supplied by the software vendor (obviously you can't use your own art because we all know what would happen then). You then plaster them around a very simple 3D environment that looks bad compared to Wolfenstein 3D's graphics. That's all there is to this very limited software. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Here's a link for the process to publish non-game software on Steam: Steam Developer Help With Software Publishing It's unfortunate this process was not known about/followed, resulting in a software application being published in the wrong place. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers.

If I could rate it out of stars, I'd give it maybe a 3.5 or 4 out of 5. I do enjoy it both conceptually and interactively, it's a very cute game. That being said, it's kind of a "good game, didn't personally like it" kind of deal. It's hard for me to think of how to describe this without it just straight up going overboard - it's a $3 proof-of-concept kinda game, and it's a wonderful little novelty, and I want to emphasize that's what it is. But that should also mean you don't overestimate what you get out of it. I felt a little frustrated, and I will try to explain why. I am a little disappointed about ideas like importing your OWN photos missing (though the possible legal/moderation aspects make sense as to why it'd be complicated, to an extent) - I feel like maybe an offline / non-public / computer-side version of a world with your own images would be nice. I saw the game's store page description said it relied on the Pixabay API but I did not consider that it might have meant /only/ that. If you are looking to be funny about any kind of non-free-licence, Pixabay-only images, such as using your own drawings/photos/images, that does not seem possible, as far as I could see. I feel a little dumb because, honestly, I skimmed the Pixabay mention and made my own assumption about importing my own images - if you were hoping to do the same, be warned. The controls are a little weird and unexplained, but not necessarily hard to figure out - once you add an image, you can use the scroll wheel for controls, etc., and I am impressed that you really can erase away at images. I feel a little weird that you cannot add simple 3D shapes like cubes or spheres, it strictly is adding images - that /is/ what it says on the package, mind you. I don't know if they are using Unity or something else off the top of my head, but if there's something as complex as /erasing at images/ I think using images-as-textures for basic shapes would be nice. But, like I said, that part is exactly like on the package. In that vein, I cannot emphasize enough how much this is what-you-see-is-what-you-get. No options to /draw/ in-game (such as self-made drawings that you could then manipulate), just erase at existing ones. No other shapes besides flat planes. No self-uploaded images. Additionally, it seems very easy and straightforward to visit other worlds as well as share them, and you can freely visit any other uploaded world. Simply a build-a-world via image creation game, nothing more, nothing less. It's very endearing, just be aware of its limits. Once I realized that it was mostly exactly-as-described, I tried to give it a second chance and a fresh look, but frankly, the disappointment about no uploaded images soured it too much for me. I wish the store description more explicitly stated that it's ONLY Pixabay images.
Fantastic concept, unfortunate execution. I've had to abandon worlds I was working on due to a bug that causes some images (which look normal in the menu) to load forever. This is especially bad since images can't be deleted until they finish loading. That was bad enough, but there seems to be a new bug where the game's framerate randomly goes to 2FPS and it launches you around the place, usually in the opposite direction to the nearest image, which is especially frustrating as it almost always launches you away from the thing you wanted to walk towards. However, this problem seems to still be happening in completely empty worlds. It happens in your own custom worlds, and in already-uploaded worlds from other people. As much as I love this game, absolutely no one should buy it until these issues are fixed, as the game is completely unplayable. This doesn't seem likely, as the devs seem to have completely abandoned the game. The perma-loading issue has been known for quite a long time.
You take 2D images from a database and put them into a three-dimensional world. That's it. Nothing bad in itself, but I wouldn't call this a game. After looking at a few other people's maps, you quickly finish one yourself. Well, and then you get bored after max. 20min "playing time" and uninstall this software. Of course you can say this is about an experience and probably this is just a concept idea, but personally it is not enough to convince me. So save yourself the time and money and enjoy a real game or professional collage tool instead.
Definitely not worth $3, I got it in a bundle and had to run it in the background to make 5 minutes to leave a review. Seems like a roblox game a kid would play just putting pictures everywhere to create their "world". Boring 0/10
