About
SNUG is a management layer for NTFS compression — the lossless, transparent compression already built into Windows. Instead of digging through file properties or memorizing compact.exe commands, you get a clean interface to compress folders, apps, and games with a click.
Built on NTFS compression: SNUG doesn't invent its own compression format. It drives the native Windows compression engine — the same technology behind compact.exe — so your files stay fully supported and there's nothing proprietary locking you in.
Transparent and lossless: Compressed files work exactly as before — open, edit, and save them like any other file. Windows decompresses them on the fly while SNUG works in the background.
Real savings on the right files: Compression works best on text, code, documents, and game assets. Already-compressed files like most videos, JPEGs, and MP3s won't shrink much, and SNUG is upfront about what's actually worth compressing.
Light on resources: Because Windows handles the actual work, SNUG stays out of the way with minimal CPU and RAM usage.
Set it and forget it: Choose the folders you want compressed and SNUG handles the rest, automatically compressing new files as they're added.
Auto-import apps, games, and software: SNUG can detect and import installed applications, games, and software for easy compression.
One-click compression for project files: Quickly find and compress project folders for software like Photoshop, Blender, Unity, and more.
No file modification: Files are reduced on disk without changing their contents, so they stay fully compatible with their original applications.
If your drive is filling up with games and loose files, SNUG makes Windows' own compression genuinely easy to use — no command line, no guesswork. Reclaim disk space with a tool that's honest about how it works.

The main question on my mind was whether this kind of compression would result in detrimental errors to the games themselves. I've tested it on a bunch of games, and it SEEMS like it usually works without causing problems, but for Space Marine 2 it totally destroyed the intro movies and made them appear as glitched lines of color that made me worried my VRAM was failing (it wasn't). It also caused constant UI error messages to pop-up on the screen. Decompressing the game files didn't fix it either—I had to completely reinstall the game, which would have sucked if I were on a metered connection. However, for other games it seems to cause zero problems, and can definitely save space on your system. I think it's worth giving it a try and testing out which games benefit from it. Some games are more compressable than others, so you just have to kind of mess around with it a bit and see what works and what doesn't. My favorite feature, though, is really special. It comes with a option called "Throw In The Towel" which installs illegal types of porn on your system and then notifies the FBI. I finally gave into my despair and enabled it. I can hear swat outside my door right now, so this will probably be my last review.
Regardless of the controversy some people have stirred up over this app, it works - and works well. I recovered over half a TB back. Didn't have to futz around, the graphical interface was fine. Worth the price just for that. My only request for the devs would be that it would be handy to see the drive a game is installed on while choosing games to compress.
Well, I must say I've been hear a lot about CompressorX on YouTube and people are saving a lot of space, I have to say it CompressorX is doing a great job compressing my games and saving storage, but what bothers me that it gets renamed nonstop, but the name of the folder remains the same.
Não me arrependo nenhum pouco.
SNUG is a practical Windows utility developed by AndrewMD5 and published by Codeusa and viorae that focuses on helping users reclaim disk space by making NTFS compression much easier to use. Rather than introducing a new compression format, the software serves as a streamlined graphical interface for a feature already built into Windows, removing the need to rely on command-line tools. Its straightforward approach makes it appealing to users who want a quick and convenient way to optimize storage without dealing with technical commands or complex configuration. The application's biggest advantage is its emphasis on accessibility. NTFS compression has existed for years, but many Windows users have never taken advantage of it because it traditionally requires using PowerShell or the Command Prompt. SNUG simplifies the entire process with an intuitive interface that allows folders to be selected, compressed, and managed in only a few steps. This makes it particularly useful for people who store large game libraries, creative projects, programming files, or work documents that steadily consume available storage. One of the more valuable features highlighted on its Steam page is the ability to automatically compress newly added files within selected directories. Instead of requiring users to repeatedly run the program whenever new content is created, SNUG continuously applies compression to designated folders. This automation helps maintain storage efficiency over time and is especially beneficial for creators or developers whose project folders are constantly expanding with new assets. Because the software relies entirely on Windows' native NTFS compression system, compatibility remains one of its strongest selling points. Files generally remain accessible without requiring manual decompression, allowing users to continue opening programs and documents as they normally would. Since no proprietary archive format is involved, compressed folders integrate naturally into the Windows environment, minimizing workflow disruptions while still offering opportunities to recover valuable disk space. SNUG also demonstrates flexibility by serving a broad audience beyond gamers. Its Steam categories include game development, design, illustration, animation, video production, audio production, and photo editing, reflecting its usefulness for anyone working with sizeable collections of digital assets. Large source code repositories, artwork, project files, and software installations can quickly fill modern SSDs, making efficient storage management increasingly important. For users hoping to postpone upgrading their storage hardware, the software provides a practical alternative worth considering. At the same time, realistic expectations are important. Compression effectiveness depends heavily on the kinds of files being processed. Text files, executable programs, and source code often compress well, while formats that are already compressed—such as videos, JPEG images, ZIP archives, and many modern game assets—may produce minimal additional savings. Likewise, while NTFS compression is designed to be transparent during everyday use, there can be slight performance differences depending on hardware specifications and how frequently compressed files are accessed. The software has also generated discussion among users because its functionality is built around an existing Windows capability rather than proprietary technology. Experienced users familiar with Windows administration may prefer performing the same tasks manually through built-in tools, while others appreciate paying for a polished interface that simplifies an otherwise technical process. In that sense, SNUG's value lies less in introducing new technology and more in making an underused Windows feature significantly more approachable and convenient. Visually, the application favors a clean, uncluttered design over an abundance of advanced settings. It avoids overwhelming users with unnecessary complexity and instead focuses on making storage optimization fast and understandable. That philosophy fits its intended purpose well, offering a lightweight utility that prioritizes ease of use rather than extensive customization. Overall, SNUG succeeds as a specialized utility that transforms Windows' native compression capabilities into a user-friendly experience. While technically inclined users may already know how to achieve similar results without additional software, the convenience, automation, and simplified interface provide meaningful value for users seeking an effortless way to manage storage. It is best suited for individuals with growing game libraries, professional project folders, or limited drive capacity who want an uncomplicated solution for maximizing available disk space without learning command-line utilities.
Refused to work + AI generated slop
For some reason the program doesn't recognise my hard-drives and SDD, I tried adding them as separate folders, but no matter how many times I try to select anything, nothing happens, it refuses to show up. So I don't even know if this program works or not. I also noticed that the artwork for the achievements are very clearly AI-generated, there is no mention of that anywhere in the description, which i'm pretty sure is against Steam's terms of service.
