This game is amazing and you should give it a try! It's very spooky, it has jumpscares that can make you live the nightmare & an amazing short story! I can't wait for the second part! SnaPaul is a decent, short burst of indie horror from solo developer Maus (about 20-30 minutes). It's dark, simple, creepy, packed with jump scares and well worth the low price tag. For reference, here's my play through: https://youtu.be/8M2r5cEZdHc?si=MTIvcHPsIM3XNz7f Now to see how the upcoming sequel builds on it.
SnaPaul is a tightly focused psychological horror experience that aims to unsettle rather than overwhelm, delivering its impact through atmosphere, pacing, and environmental tension instead of complex systems or extended playtime. Developed and published by Maus, the game presents itself as a brief descent into unease, designed to be completed in a single sitting while leaving a lingering impression. From the moment you step inside its confined setting, the game establishes a sense of claustrophobia and uncertainty, making it clear that the experience is about what you feel rather than what you do. The setting is a single, ominous house that feels deliberately constructed to play tricks on the player’s perception. Narrow corridors, dimly lit rooms, and subtle environmental details combine to create a space that feels hostile despite its ordinary appearance. The game relies heavily on environmental storytelling, allowing players to piece together meaning from objects, layout, and visual cues rather than explicit narrative exposition. This ambiguity is intentional, encouraging the imagination to fill in the gaps and making the experience feel more personal and disturbing. Gameplay is intentionally minimalistic, focusing almost entirely on exploration and observation. There are no combat mechanics, no inventory juggling, and no complex puzzles to solve. Instead, progress comes from moving through the environment, noticing changes, and triggering events that slowly escalate the tension. This simplicity keeps the player’s attention fixed on the atmosphere, but it also means that interaction is limited. For some, this will heighten immersion by removing distractions; for others, it may feel too passive, especially if they prefer more agency or challenge in horror games. Sound design is one of SnaPaul’s strongest elements. Silence is used as a tool just as effectively as noise, with long quiet stretches broken by sudden audio cues that immediately raise anxiety. Footsteps, distant sounds, and abrupt changes in ambience create a constant sense of anticipation, making players hesitant to move forward even when nothing appears to be happening. The restrained use of jump scares ensures that when they do occur, they feel impactful rather than cheap, reinforcing the game’s psychological focus. Visually, the game favors mood over detail. Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the experience, with shadows obscuring what lies ahead and subtle shifts in illumination signaling that something has changed. While the graphics are not especially advanced, they are effective within the game’s narrow scope, supporting the tension rather than drawing attention to technical limitations. The first-person perspective further enhances immersion, placing the player directly inside the unsettling environment and making every turn feel risky. Despite its short length, SnaPaul offers small incentives for deeper engagement, such as achievements tied to specific moments or discoveries. These encourage players to explore thoroughly and potentially replay the game to see everything it has to offer. While replayability is limited by the game’s linear structure, these optional goals add a layer of completion for those who enjoy uncovering every detail. Ultimately, SnaPaul succeeds as a compact horror experience that understands its limitations and works within them effectively. It does not attempt to deliver a long narrative or reinvent the genre, but instead focuses on crafting a concentrated dose of fear through atmosphere and restraint. For players looking for a quick yet unsettling horror game that prioritizes mood and psychological tension over mechanics, SnaPaul offers a memorable experience that proves brevity can be a strength when paired with careful design. Rating: 7/10
well where do i start, this game was fantastic for a short 30 minute psychological horror experience, actually had me on edge from start to finish after things got rolling, and things pick up rather quick for what seems to be a harmless prank with you and your cousin soon takes a turn in a direction you don't wanna go in this short adventure, i highly recommend you give this a go for the price, well worth it to me if you need some convincing can check out my play through at https://youtu.be/MeSxle3b_js this Dev has my full support and i urge y'all do the same if you're able, a simple wish list can help this game get seen more on the steam store, for the atmosphere, sounds also the silence in the environment settings, and story telling i give this a solid 10/10
Sir MAUS! I haven't been scared like this in a loooooong time. Thank you for you debut game! I am going to tell everyone about it. We had such a blast playing this on stream today. Hi humans, if you are looking for a game full of things that go CRASH BOOM BANG, in the middle of the night, then look no further. Do yourself a favor and get this game right now. I actually had to get up and walk away at one point because I was so scared. For this being the Dev's first game, I cant say enough good things about it. Are you still reading this and not playing the game?!?! GO! Get it now!
I played this Chapter of SnaPaul back in April 2025, and thought it was VERY creepy! The tasks were simple, the story was easy to follow, the scares were well-placed, and scary! Also, I was NOT expecting what happened at the end (I won't give spoilers!) I'm excited to see Chapter 2, and I'm really hoping we find out more about the 'Dark Lady' and her story! ~SakuraYueKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaSlUfn5Vj4
That's 20 minutes I'm not getting back.
