8/10, Switching it up.

Note:This is a split up review. All four games are covered as one article in Gao Li Occasionally Reviews
Chapter 3: Lettuce Be After figuring out that they have been set up to fail from the start, the snails now find themselves imprisoned on K2-91B by two Zhawks, Aaron and Gaston. The Zhawks are a humanoid species, afraid of a possible molluscan invasion, should the snails ever discover that their home planet is overflowing with lettuce. Their historical records talk of an incident on the Fromage research base that has been attacked by the snails twenty years ago. So, to keep the worst case scenario from happening, they want to turn all of them into escargot. In a highly interesting twist, players take on the role of one of the Zhawks, while the heroes themselves remain captured throughout the chapter. By orders of his comrade, Gaston has to try to send out the “All Green signal” to lure the snails from their home planet to K2-91B to turn them into delicious meals for his people. The playable area is further expanded from the last title, now featuring the snail spacecraft, the wilderness, as well as the Zhawk base, while the puzzles approach the niveau of classic point & click adventures. And despite the section not introducing too many game mechanical changes, it contains two aggravating achievements: “Stay Late – Keep watching past the credits.” And “Speed Runner – Get from the right side of the storeroom to the right side of the maintenance shaft in under 40 seconds of game time.” Because the game is the work of one individual, the credit roll consists of a looping animation of spacecrafts leaving the Snail homeworld with big letters reading “TO BE CONCLUDED IN CHAPTER 4” for several minutes. In fact, it takes roughly seven minutes for the first line of dialog to pop up where a snail ask “Did I leave the oven on?” and about five further minutes for the “Stay Late” achievement to pop up (after the second “Tardygram” picture is shown). As for the “Speed Runner” achievement, players will have to traverse the entire map within 40 in-game seconds. Even though the protagonist walks faster when players press the CTRL key on their keyboards, having to walk around with the arrow keys and then speedily jump over to their alphabetic counterparts to type “OPEN”, “ENTER”, or “WEAR SUIT” (those commands make sense in the game) when in front of an obstacle, makes realizing this task needlessly annoying. Even the autocorrect can’t help there. In fact, both of these achievements’ sole aim seems to be to pad out the runtime of “Chapter 3” of “Snail Trek” without any proper pay-off for the player, unless a higher electricity bill counts. Given that, both of these achievements are bad ideas in an otherwise good game. The third installment in the Snail Trek series picks up right where the previous part left off, but with a bit of a twist. I won't spoil it for you, but make sure you've played parts 1 and 2 before playing this one to be able to appreciate the setting of this third part. As I've come to expect of this series, the puzzles are logical and the game is not overly difficult, but the story flows nicely. The graphics are once again awesome if you like retro gaming. The music is not retro, but definitely fitting for the setting. I may sound like a broken record here, but I can only recommend this part as much as the previous ones!
The third act of the Snail Trek series turns the tables by having you play as a different alien race, providing a new perspective on the events which are transpiring. The stakes are high and by the conclusion of this act the scene is set for the final act. Will these differing species find peace? Whatever the case might be, this was one shell of a game! ;-) (This software is compatible with Windows XP.)
These are great I beat 1-3 in a single sitting, can't wait for the thrilling conclusion! Each one takes about 30-45 minutes to complete, it's $0.99 and it's entertaining. Can't really go wrong with this series.
overall alright for in between.
The third chapter of the Snail Trek saga continues directly after chapter 2 where the snails were taken captive by the evil aliens who seek to destroy the snails. Interestingly enough, you actually play as one of these aliens rather than the snails. It's as good as previous chapters and I can't wait to play the conclusion in Chapter 4!
Can't wait for the next one!
The next installment in here, hurrah! What dastardly obstacles will the space snails have to slime through now?
SUMMARY
A thrilling chapter in the Snail Trek saga, in which you use deception playing from a new angle! Snail Trek continues with its intuitive puzzles which are modestly challenging. It also provides hints when it detects you are stumped or taking longer than usual which is appreciated. Again, the music is well done, there seems to be more animation in this episode, and overall it there is far more item usage and manipulation. A particularly fun entry in the series.
