Solid game, maybe it drops too many extra lifes & the ball does not pick up enough speed. But if you look at the competition, for Arkanoid clones here on Steam. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. Krakout & Arkanoid on a c-64 are still the best.

Slab is a game where you control a paddle via your mouse in attempt to.... Um.. It's Arkanoid, okay? If you've played Arkanoid you've essentially played Slab. Arkanoid is great arcade fun so you already know what to expect. Here are some nit-picky negatives: 1. The trail of fairy dust that the ball leaves behind as it travels is very distracting. When the ball is bouncing vertically and retracing it's previous path it can get difficult to see the ball. Unforunately there seems to be no way of turning ball trails off. I would recommend at the very least making this trail more transparent so the ball is clearly visible even when it is overlapping it's own trail. 2. Achievement pop-ups block your view of the paddle. The devs should have them appear in the upper right corner or save them for after a match ends. 3. The "How to Play" graphic shows all items that fall from smashed bricks as "power-ups." An item that shrinks your paddle is not a power-up. That is a do-not-want. I would recommend separating the power-ups from the do-not-wants. 4. When the game is over you are given the options to play a new game or go to the main menu. New game starts you back at level 1. The only way to replay the level you were at is to use the main menu. Adding a button to reply the current level at the end of a game would be nice. 5. In the original Arkanoid, bricks that required more than one hit to destroy would show a glint of reflections shimmer over it when the ball hit but did not destroy it. This game doesn't do that and it makes my nostalgia gland sad. 6. One time the ball passed through the right wall of the playfield when I picked up a power-up to make multiple balls. It left the screen and never returned. My only recourse was to start a new game. I will add that the Galaxian-like coloured starfield in the background is nice. I like how they move like dust. So yeah it's Arkanoid that could use a bit more presentation polish. Get it if you want.
I want to thank the developer, Smash The Code for not only making a great 'Breakout" style game here on Steam, but also for offering me a free evaluation copy of this game. Watch my "First Play on Launch Day!" FIrst Impressions Review right HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_hS4bKpBwg&feature=youtu.be This is a pretty basic breakout style game that doesn't really break the mold of what we are so familiar with in these kind of games, and we've seen everything here before in dozens of games like it over the years. But what this game does, it does very well, and I honestly like the simple design and approach. KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) is very fitting in this game. The game controls perfectly with no slow down or bugs that I noticed in my first half hour of play, and with 30 levels to progress through, the value is very high on this little gem. This game scored an impressive 89% score using my first impressions scoring system, and gets my "high recommend"! Great job developer(s), and thanks a lot for offering a great value and fun little game for us at a budget price!
Slab is a rather mediocre 50 level Arkanoid clone offering nothing new whatsoever. The objective is to use a paddle and ricochet a ball around the screen until you demolish all the destructible bricks on that said level and then move onto the next and do the same. There are a handful of power ups that will help you in that task by granting either multi ball, the ability to shoot bricks, speed decrease, paddle enlarger, ball enlarger, score increase and extra life. The extra lives seem to be capped at 5 and to get another you will need to lose a life first. On the flip side there are negative power-ups that you will also need to avoid obtaining. Mainly paddle shrink, score decrease and instant death. This is a simple graphic presentation using the unity engine, the power-ups aren't overly enthralling, and while the sound and music is good it can get rather repetitive real quick. You also can't improve the power ups by getting multiple of the same ones. Hence games that aren't fast or explosive making you feel like you've won the jackpot at the casino really need a gimmick to hold a players attention. The only thing this game really offers is 67 achievements. Oh yawn. That and the chance of getting your name on the leader board, another oh yawn. On the positive side 'Smash the Code' a single indie developer seems to eventually listen to its customers and has taken away all the really tedious grinding achievements in order to keep the game loyal to its relaxing premise, but with the extra lives capped and the sheer parch land of helpful power-ups that you do occasionally get every blue moon, trying to get on the leader board would probably not be ‘high on the list’ for a casual gamer who wants to just play and relax. The only worthy endeavour left is to make your way slowly through the 50 levels which should only take you an hour or two. My biggest gripe with the game is the cost. When it was 40 levels it was only $3.00. Now he has added another 10 levels he is now selling it for $8.50. Are you SERIOUS? I can get a slab of 6 beers for $12.00 at my local bottle-o and it would honestly be more fun. There would be a lot of loud noises, probably a fire or two, alarms and sirens galore and maybe even an explosion. All of which this game seems to be missing. Slab is an arkanoid/Brickbreaker type of game that is fairly traditional but even if it isnt the most groundbreaking game its highly recommendable and deffently ammong the best of these kind of games on steam. The developer has been responsive to critique and clearly cares about his product and playerbase. The handling works smoothly and precise and is played with mouse. The game is priced cheap at 4.99 euros regular price so if you are looking for a great game in this category buy it as i doubt you will get disapointed.
I played this game for quite a while hours how could I not like it? Here comes the weird part I did for a bit. However, I am not recommending this game because quite frankly there seems to be a gross lack of effort by the dev of this game leading to the point of it being borderline unethical... also the bugs and oversights. So long story short just get a different game, it will play better and you won't have to deal with this mess.
Glitches
So starting with parts the people just looking to play a game would be concerned about the bugs This first one is a complete game breaker, pretty often if you hit the ball with the edge of the paddle against the walls of the box, the ball will clip through the bounds of the play area causing the ball to go up, down, and never come back again. Why is this an issue? This completely ends any run you are doing because there is no way of getting the ball back, meaning unless you exit to the menu and start your run over again you'll be just staring at the screen UNTIL THE HEAT DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE . The second bug is that when starting a off the game (both at the start of a round or if you died) the ball will be in the center of your paddle, you would expect like in most games of it's kind that means you take this and play it however you'd like... DEAD WRONG! At the start of every round or life the ball refuses to respond with where you take it or what part of the paddle it is on. Everytime the ball goes in the same exact direction, sharply to the right. While this isn't game breaking it certainly does sour the experience when the game removes so many options away from you due to the incompetence of a dev being able to copy a simple game.
Oversights
The levels in the later 2/3's of the game are just irritating as they are uninspired and for whatever reason become less skillfully crafted. Not only are most of the level later in the game not fun to play they are so incredibly easy to the point that I question if the maker of this game meant to put them in the order they are in. I kid you not ~level 39 is a windmill that is at most two dozen blocks that you can take care of in ten seconds... easier than level one. This also isn't the only far in example of this THERE ARE SO MANY LEVELS LIKE THIS! Not only that but most of the "harder" levels can only be approached from one way as the dev places blocks all but an inch away from the paddle besides a gap on the right or left side, so many levels have this approach which only lets you do one thing, glorified pinball! However, remember the glitch I mentioned earlier, you can only when starting off put the ball in the right direction meaning that level mostly only grant you WITH ONE CHOICE ON HOW TO GO ABOUT THINGS IN A BRICK BREAKER! Most of the time it feels like the only worry was making the levels look pretty rather than making it playable or fun. De-buffs and power-ups are often unavoidable and will ruin any fun you are even attempting to have despite the terrible level design. All too often I find myself having to either hit the instant death de-buff or miss the ball, the result is the same... instant death (this isn't even the worst debuff to get either). Honestly I would be fine with it if there where better ways to avoid these outcomes but a lot of the time there just isn't.
Ethical Issues
The man or woman (look at me being gender inclusive) copied many other games and did it poorly which is surprising given how simple this type of break breaker is. That only presents an ethical issue with buying this poor rendition block breaker. The use of free music/sounds and icons off the internet is another issue. This becomes an issue not only because it further highlights the laziness of the dev but, also causes the game to become more annoying due to the same couple of songs playing again and again. However, it doesn't stop there... the maker of this game sells the music that they didn't make for $2.99 on steam. I used free music before in my videos or school project but to sell the free sound tracks for three bucks??? What kind of a scumbag do you have to be? This person isn't just using the work of others to enhance their game (an ethical thing) the dev of this game is legit just selling things other people did showing what type of person they are. In conclusion don't get this game it is filled with bugs, oversights, uninspired/unfun level, and surprisingly even ethical problems.
W zasadzie gra jest dobra. Oddaje dobrze klimat starych gier tego typu w odnowionej oprawie. Ma kilka pomysłów na siebie. Gra ma pięćdziesiąt poziomów aczkolwiek rzucających wyzwanie. Bardzo fajne pomysły na różnego rodzaju boosty. Mylące jest jednak, że na ekranie porażki mamy przyciski "New game" i "Back to menu". Brakuje tu możliwości wyboru "Play again" przez co, żeby powtórzyć poziom musimy wychodzić do menu i znowu grać. Dodatkowo możemy omyłkowo kliknąć "New game" i zaczniemy grę od nowa.
O fundo do cenário é bem elaborado.
