Sklime perfectly demonstrates what a good foddian game should strive to achieve. In my head, that comes down to three things: perfecting an initially uncomfortable movement mechanic, a strong sense of accomplishment at the end, and a significantly high skill ceiling. Initially, coordinating your arms not to clap together every 5 seconds is enough of a challenge but with enough practice and perseverance, your rigid and uncomfortable movement will turn into a fluid and fun extension of your two arms. Although the base Sklime game is not insanely difficult, reaching the surface offers a moment of reflection where you see how far you’ve come since your first few jumps. A truly rewarding feeling. Even after finishing the game, I still see that I have only scratched the surface of the level of movement mastery that this game is capable of which excites me to keep playing and reaching for better times on the leaderboard. Overall, I recommend giving this game a try. I also suggest getting past at least the green section before deciding to give up completing the game as I believe that's when you start to feel the beauty of the game and understand how to move.
I was on the fence about whether to buy it or not because I tried the demo and felt how difficult it was. It comes from the genre popularised by Getting Over It, but from what I've experienced so far, it doesn't seem possible to fall back to the beginning, which would be difficult to do. The graphics, although simple, are charming because they are smooth and decorated nicely. Keep in mind that a joystick is required, as the game is played primarily with the analog sticks. To jump, you need to push yourself off using the stick's movement, making it easy to accidentally jump while trying to reposition the "legs" and end up moving backward. I'm enjoying it at the moment, but I doubt I'll be able to finish it due to my lack of patience, so I'd only recommend it to those who enjoy that sort of challenge. Quick Score: 5/5 Notes: Really well made game so far. My only gripe is that early on I think it might be a bit too punishing. And I would love to see some at least soft practice tools or mercy mechanics to help progress a little bit. Something along the lines of what Beton Brutal has. Otherwise strongly suggest checking it out. Ill update this review once I've hopefully finished the game lol about 2 hours in and im at 30% through, but ive been stuck in the 20-30% range for basically that entire 2 hours. This is harder than the 1st map of pogostuck by quite a bit IMO, but your mileage may vary. --------- Update: ended up taking 10 hours to beat the map. Another 10 hours of attempts to get the sub-30 minute speedrun. The sub 10-minute speedrun achievement is insanely difficult. If you are looking for a challenge, this is the game for you.
great foddian, awesome gimmicks in each area, and super cool and fun to learn tech
Do not be fooled by the trailer, sklime is a foddian game that is hard to learn and master. The control looks so simple when you see the trailer. but you will barely be able to clear 1 obstacle at the start. Slowly you will learn and be able to clear obstacle faster but it will take you time and effort to be able to play like in the trailer. The gameplay is really fun imo and i am hyped to see player speedrun and master this game to see how much better you can be. Hopefully, this become a popular foddian game cause it fit the criteria that makes the game fun and challenging. Has hard achievement
With all of the getting over it clones running around, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to find one with a unique take on the formula. Imagine if in the man in the pot had two hammers instead of one, and that's basically what this game is. That one small addition adds enough complexity to bring a fresh new take on a stale genre. Game is overall made pretty well, and the learning curve is steep, but definitely one of those games where if this is the type of thing you normally like, you should play it.
yeah i mean its pretty punishing (this game made me madder than anything ever has before), but its a foddian rage game, so you shouldn't buy it if that's going to be a problem for you *cough cough most of the negative reviews*. all in all the movement is actually kind of intoxicating once you start to get used to it, and i'm already making pretty good progress re-learning my fine motor control.
poggers
extremely satisfying and rewarding movement + a perfectly aligned difficulty curve to the expected skill of the player at each area. you make a breakthrough every time you think you just can't make the next jump
Getting over it with two hammers. My Brain hurts.
