Skin Deep

A refreshing stealth/immersive sim that swaps out the grit and noir for slapstick and cats. It's not afraid to be silly and it's happy to make the player feel a bit overpowered. Nina is still very fragile though, so brute forcing combat won't go your way. Throw a banana peel instead. Explode the windows. Dive into a trash chute. My main concern is that it doesn't get complex enough, especially since most of the levels are quite small. I'm surprised that there's no achievements for doing levels in pacifist style, or other challenge runs. Still, it really is charming and a welcome addition to the stealth/immersive sim genres.

Skin Deep is a game that makes me rethink what the whole "immersive sim" genre really is. The immersive sim is my favorite of all game genres, as I have a deep love of Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock, Prey, and the like. But, what sets Skin Deep apart from the other immersive sim games I have played, is that the immersive sim is usually deadly serious. Skin Deep, in the other hand, dives headlong into complete, patent absurdity...and despite how much I normally appreciate the serious, usually conspiracy-oriented stories of other immersive sims, the absurd humor of Skin Deep actually works. It's not the best immersive sim I've played, but it is still solidly an immersive sim and gave myself and my kids some genuine laugh out loud moments. Sneaking around ships, ambushing immortal pirates and flushing their heads down toilets so that they don't resurrect is oddly satisfying experience. Every ship is a maze that you must master, and every physically superior foe is a puzzle you must solve, right in line with other games of the genre. It doesn't have the same deep story with twists and turns where you're always trying to guess what the next surprise will be, and it doesn't attempt to, instead embracing comedy tropes that wouldn't be far removed from Looney Tunes, but it scratches that same immersive sim gameplay itch.

Another Blendo Games hit! Skin Deep is an Immersive Sim that continuously expands across 12 levels, continually expanding your tools, enemy variants, and the challenges that you face. It's a great concept executed wonderfully. Every level had me setting a plan, failing hilariously and spectacularly, and then thinking outside the box on how to escape. I love the freedom given in how to solve a problem, as well as the humor built into it (turning on the reel in the DJ booth was a great one). Just like other Blendo titles, characters are boxy, the humor is cheeky, and the music is snappy. There's a lot of love poured into this title and you can feel it. I'm so glad I finally got to explore Nuevos Aires after saving it in Atom Zombie Smasher.

For this low price, an amazing game! I really like immersive Sims but i always struggled with their sheer size. This game offers small sections as full sandboxes where you can deal with each problem as you want. In addition this game has a very interesting story which is also funny. only drawback that sometimes its a bit finicky to do stuff 9/10 really hope they do more like this :)

This game is peak at its peak.
