It gets a bit too easy when you get the feeling for sprint and it is a bit short but it was quite fun, get it on sale. I just wish we could reroll our perks
A simple game, and that's a good thing. With so many bloated games filled with feature creep or content that demands hours of dedication to get to the fun, sometimes a game that is easy to pick up and play is what's needed, and that's what Skeletal Avenger is. It's very basic and easy to learn, but the gameplay is satisfying and rewarding, and it doesn't waste your time. I only have 8 hours on Steam at the time of this review, but I also have the game on Nintendo Switch and have double the hours there. Great game to play when you're on the go and just have a few minutes to spare and want something you can play in bite-sized chunks.
6/10. Why is it that an infinite number of randomly generated levels just feels like playing the same level over and over again, getting a bit more bored each time? Infinite replayability = infinite boredom. That said, for the first 4 hours it was pretty fun. The controls are tight and skill based; random mashing = frequent failure. Enemies are somewhat varied and do take some strategy to take down. But other than the Hammer, all the weapons are kind of weak, and none of the armor really changes up the game-play experience. The meta-progression is just stats boosts, rather than introducing new mechanics. I got this for a dollar, so I'm not complaining, that price was well worth the enjoyment I had. But there's nothing standout or unusual about this title; it's simply an all-around competently done ARPG rogue-lite that gets stale a bit faster than I'd like. To be fair to this game, I generally get tired of procedurally generated levels pretty quickly. Maybe you will feel like each level has the spark of inspiration and the almost identical items are in fact each a special (blade-tipped) snowflake.
It's a fun little game. Not overly complex or stimulating. Some parts are challenging (to a degree) while most areas felt like a cakewalk once I got the hang of the combat and skills. Combat is simple and fun, while the perks give each run a unique feel. I definitely recommend it on sale. My complaints, although minor, are below: -Some weapons are simply useless compared to others. The sword is incredibly weak and the daggers aren't much better. I breezed through every enemy with the hammer and only switched to the spear for a few levels. -The levels get reused from time to time. It eventually felt like had played the same section a dozen times because the same level kept getting used over and over. This is especially true in the sewers. -There really isn't a story, just a generic revenge tale. -As previously mentioned, some weapons and sets of armor are useless. At the higher levels I had no choice but to use certain load outs since the enemies were either too bulky or my character died too quickly. Verdict: 7/10
Great gameplay, easy to learn, hard to master - much fun with friends, a decent variety of items, powers and foes. Congrats to the devs, keeping the Art of couch-coop real!
Skeletal Avenger unfolds as a classic roguelike progression game, immersing players in the depths of a dungeon where they combat foes and steadily enhance their capabilities. The overall experience, while competent, tends to veer towards a spectrum of mild to moderate averageness. While it may not deliver a groundbreaking revelation, there's a possibility that a twelve-year-old, engrossed in the game on an iPad, could invest an astonishing 49,458+ hours, only to be met with sheer dismay when the inevitable battery depletion occurs.
