Romance roulette, horny demon edition
I'll admit it: I played that game back 3 years ago, but just simply wasn't writing reviews, and today, I pull this one back up from the 2022 archives with no shame at all. An 18+ boys love (BL) indie where you play a guy who just died and gets drafted as the potential new embodiment of Lust? Sold. The setup is refreshing and straightforward: seduce the 6 other sins to prove you deserve the title. The world-building keeps it simple, but it does exactly what it needs to do: clearly defining each sin’s role and vibe so you know what kind of ride you’re signing up for. This is very much a “we know why you’re here” experience, and it owns that energy. Every route feels distinct, whether you’re into the older, confident type, the rich CEO flavor, the hunk, the twink, or something in between. The diversity is genuinely appreciated, and none of the characters feel like filler. The NSFW scenes are varied and tailored to each personality, and the colorful art, while sometimes a bit loose with proportions, keeps things visually lively. Add to that a surprising number of CG backgrounds that make Los Angeles feel busy and alive, and you get the sense that there’s always somewhere new to go. The voice acting deserves a standing ovation. Fully voiced BL indies are rare, and here it elevates everything, from flirtation to drama to those delightfully bad endings involving side guys that I absolutely do not regret chasing. Choices matter, endings are plentiful, and nothing feels phoned in when it comes to character stories. There are a few caveats though. To truly complete everything, you need to romance all 6 love interests, and only the last one you choose sticks as your “true” ending. That means 6 playthroughs for 100%, which is softened by a very generous save and skip system, but it does give the whole thing a slightly serial heartbreaker vibe. The achievement list is also massive (53), which is both exhausting and oddly satisfying, depending on how much you enjoy checklists. If you go in knowing the rules, save your favorite for last, and lean into the indie charm and unapologetic smut, it’s a great time. It’s confident about what it is, delivers on that promise, and easily earns a spot among the more memorable BL experiences on Steam, at least in my book. 😋
For more reviews like this one, please check out Ele's Little Recommendation Corner!
Sinsations, a fully-voiced game where you are one of the seven deadly sins, and have to woo the other six. An interesting concept all things considered, but unfortunately the game fails to bring depth to the characters beyond their carnal sin with a few exceptions. You play as Kosuke Arai, a young man chosen by Lucifer to complete a test to become the personification of Lust in Las Vegas. The game opens with a lengthy world-building exposition explaining just how our main character died and found himself in hell. In this section you are introduced to a few characters isolated beyond this section to bad endings, oddly timed and forced comedic breaks, and a special bonus “story” visible only after getting a character's true ending. Once you’ve made it past the world building of hell, the main game starts placing you in the heart of Las Vegas. In fact, you will never go back to hell during the rest of your playthrough…so long as you don’t fail to woo your intended targets. In the event that you do, you’ll likely cut to an end screen, or get a short snippet of dialogue with a cg or two. A single playthrough will require you to romance and get the other six sins to profess their love to you. Do not be fooled however by the supposed promise of being able to retroactively pick your true end with a particular character. The character you romance last, is the character you will get the true ending for. One of the few cases where saving the best for last is recommended. If you plan on 100% this game, you will have to do a minimum of 6 complete playthroughs of the game to get each sins true ending. It is also wise to keep in mind that the game has a noticeable lack of the use of contractions, and in doing so many phrases end up feeling stilted and overly formal. Which leads us to the sins: Envy, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Gluttony, and Pride. Each sin was fully voice acted and consisted of a more inclusive cast than commonly seen in many visual novels. Throughout the game only a few characters tie themselves to their background, otherwise it sits as general information about the character. While I don’t believe it to be the intention of the developer, due to the characters being tied to the deadly sins it could accentuate harmful stereotypes based on the background of some sins. My favorite character was probably Greed due to the voice-acting but also due to his true ending. I saved his true ending for last, and of them all I found it to be one of the more impactful. Greed as a character was still driven predominately by his sin his entire playthrough however. In fact, most of the characters fleshed out more beyond their sin in the true ending. On the opposite side of the spectrum, my least favorite character by far was Pride. The character was portrayed as incredibly whiny and I found it hard to believe we as a player are supposed to like them. While I would love to write a short and concise description for each sin, it would mainly consist of information you find out about them within the first ten minutes of their routes. This namely being their occupation, background, and name. When it came to the voice-acting of the game, there were few routes where I enjoyed the addition. I found myself multiple times opting for no voice, and having an overall better gaming experience that way. I found many of the voices to be amateur in nature. However, I understand that this could simply be personal preference. The few times I did enjoy the voice-acting were for Greed's and Wrath’s routes as I felt the voice actors truly brought the characters to life and gave them more personality over the other characters. Then there’s the CG’s. The art may not always be the most proportionate, but I was able to identify a total of 3 different styles, and more likely artists. With a visual novel relying as heavily as it does on the CG’s, it’s important that the art style maintains consistency among all of them. The majority of the main game does stay true to this, however, there are a few sporadic CG’s with a significant quality increase than normal, and the bonus section features arguably lesser quality CG’s. I’d argue that the bonus section wasn’t worth adding if the “story” is going to be a ten minute read and the CG’s accompanying it aren’t even of the same quality as the rest of the game. That’s my personal take on the matter and people are free to disagree. Altogether, Sinsations isn’t a game I would recommend to others. While some may argue the indie approach, I can safely say that’s not the case here. I’ve played games in the same vein for much less that provided more cohesive and engaging play experiences. The game in its current state would have worked better without the voice acting and instead have put those funds into the art. I think there was the chance for something here, and I do enjoy the premise of romancing my way through all of the sins, but in its current state multiple playthroughs are a slog to get through and hardly engaging. If you absolutely need this game, get it on sale, otherwise I would try your luck with another title.
For an indie BL game the voice acting was pretty great. I applaude Mylo Reid the voice of Lust for voicing everything including the monolouges and thoughts, thanks to that I barely had to read anything lol There are a lot of choices and consequences throughout the game. I loved how some bad ends had special CGs, making wrong decisions and endings more enjoyable :3 All the background art is gorgeous and there are plenty of CGs scattered around for each route. While it is jarring when some of the CGs have clearly different artstyles, it's not a huge problem but it is a bit awkward when some H scenes are drawn differently compared to the others XD My only complaint of how the story is structured would be that you can't go back to a Sin that you're done with, making me an unintentional liar regardless of how I feel because we always end up with the last Sin we target. It would have been nice if we could have one last choice on who to end up with after passing the test but it is what it is XP Considering that the game is centered around the 7 deadly sins, it's not surprising that the story isn't deep and isn't big on romance. So as long as romance and monogamy isn't what you're after, I recommend this game :D
Only 14 hours in, one true ending done, and I already can't recommend this game enough! I'll just give my personal thoughts because you'll learn of the story and such as you play. WHICH YOU SHOULD!!! <3 --MINOR SPOILERS-- I absolutely love the characters. The protag Kosuke/Lust is actually a pretty good one! He knows what he wants, and will do what he wants! That being said, what I like is that he does have a heart. It's more obvious in some routes then others, but I always felt that he never wants to hurt the other sins; even being there when they need it (Very evident in Envy's route the most I think) The only route I think I found him considering it more of a 'job' is Wrath's but given Wrath's route, it didn't feel off for him to think that way. And the sins! Each of them have so much personality it's outstanding! I think my favorite is a definite tie between Sloth and Envy, but man does Gluttony come as a close second! Sloth is an adorable sleepy head that has no romantic experience really, but is also the head of a company and loves his sweets. I would give this man all the doughnuts in the world if I could afford it XD Gluttony, my lord, WHY CAN'T MORE MEN BE LIKE YOU??? You'll all see what I mean when you play, but this guy is so sweet and so respectable that you'll end up as happy as he is!! AND HE HAS A DOG QAQ And oh my God Envy. He is just...So precious ; . ; I see myself in him, and I would give him the longest hug I could ever give. I unfortunately understand why one of his bad endings ends that way :( I've been where his head's been at, and I know how hard it can be, especially in a society like this. He needs all the love in the world. He was the first true end I got and I do NOT regret it QAQ <3 Screw it. I headcanon Kosuke romancing these 3 sins, protecting them, and they all have a big cuddle session to improve their mental health. You will pry this headcanon from my cold, dead hands >:T The voice acting is also amazing! Everyone did a wonderful job and I hope to hear more of them in the future! The art is wonderful too! I believe multiple artists were brought on to make the CGs, as some look different, but I could be wrong! The routes felt like a good length, maybe a little rushed at times, but considering the plot I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would. The ONLY thing I could say I didn't like was that if you aren't dating the last sin, you kinda just...Leave while saying you'll be back. You aren't given the option, you are set up with the last sin you pick. It legit broke my heart when Sloth started crying, I felt like a huge jerk <8...C It helps a little that none of the sins aside from Sloth take it too personally, as they are Sins too and understand Lucifer sets up less then fair tests. Even Sloth does text you in a certain route saying he appreciates having a friend, but I understand why he reacts the way he does :( But that's the only thing I think I could really say that sat wrong with me! Again, I have only gotten through one true ending, but this game is definitely going to have me coming back for more!! I had a really fun time and let me just finish by saying you all will love Judas. You just will XDDDD Update!! Oh my God I felt so bad for not going for Envy this time around QAQ BUT OH LORD GUYS GUYS SLOTH'S TRUE END IS SO WORTH IT. TRUST ME!!!!! <3
You call it a vice? I call it FUN. A really enjoyable BL VN... If you are into that kind of stuff. And let's face it... WHO ISN'T into hot guys and demons? That's the best selling point right there. The whole thing was a trip... Even though I didn't do any drugs like they did in the game. XD... I'd make a bad demoness... Eh. The game summary tells you what you are in for and they DO have "choice indicators". That doesn't mean there isn't a lot of extra... Other... Hidden stuffs. I wont make it too long, so I will just say this: Everything is awesome. My favorite (Surprise... It's rare, I know) characters... YES. ARE... Envy and Greed. I think a lot of people like Greed... But Envy man... So hard not to want to make him happy. Greed though... Ahahah... Hah... Ha. The others aren't that far off and have their own charm. There are also interesting tidbits/surprises/twists that they snuck into the story. There is also two Bonus... Short side stories. You get achievements from those as well. The important thing here is... This game knows their lewd stuff and makes it FUN and the jokes even FUNNIER. My favorite line in here was "Cause I'm Lust. I give people exactly what they want." That one stuck with me hardcore. Kudos, kudos and would love to read it again in the future. Thank yous!!! :) >;3 :)
Excellent BL visual novel, the Voice acting is amazing, the characters are all unique and likable in their own way. Even though the main character is kinda questionable at times however I did overal like him. The end of the whole game was kinda abrubt where it depends on who you choose last. Besides that I highly reccomend this game to anyone likes BL stuff. it's filled with both very cute and romantic moments but also some very uuh intense ''action'' if you you what I mean :3 To the developers I hope you keep making more stuff cause this feels like a hidden gem between all the thousands of VN's on steam c:
Wow! What a gem I found. The story is really well thought out. I can't believe the price! I feel like it should be way more. The characters are intriguing. I found myself being really interested in what would happen next. The artwork is a mile above most of these type games... The thing I liked most was the voice work. ...and I mean Full Voice work for the entire game. Its not generic like the games that I have played before. I usually get turned off immediately by the voice work in other games like this. ...but not this one, these guys actually sounds hot. Especially Kosuke, the main protagonist. His voice... well I could melt into listening to him talk. Honestly guys... this is a masterpiece. I absolutely can't wait to see what Frigid Delights does next. I couldn't wait to write a review for this game. So I decided to minimize and jump right over to write one before jumping right back in.
This game does has some flaws, but I absolutely love it! Before I get into the pros of this game, let me explain the one kinda major gripe I had with this game, so spoilers ahead. You play as the deadly sin of Lust starting out, and are tasked with romancing all the other six sins. To progress throughout the game, you need play out through every single sin until the end. I initally thought that I could choose which sin to be with in the end, after playing through all six, but instead it is whoever sin you saved for last, is the one you end up with (if you choose the good ending). I naturally wanted to see all endings, however I found it strenuous having to have to replay each sin so I can have a certain one for last, and then if I had to do another sin, I had to redo this process again. It was a little bit annoying at first, but then I started seeing each sins ending and started to get over this inconvenience. However, I still would've liked a more flexible approach to this. Funny thing though, I usually hate prideful people, so I saved pride for last naturally, But when it got to the point where I ended up staying with him, I was super confused and shocked that I had accidentally chose Pride as my partner haha. Now for the pros The VOICE ACTING IS SOOOO GOOOODDDDD. I usually veer away from fully voiced english visual novels, but Sinsations cast is so phenomenal. All of the sins VA's seriously have major talent. All of the sin's VAs worked very hard to capture each emotions in each scene, and being a fully voiced visual novel, can be super tough. But their hard work indeed pulled off and created a great atmosphere for this visual novel. It especially paid off in all of the sexy scenes ;) LOL. Sloths VA really captures that innocence and awkwardness that made me really like him (Sloth is actually my favorite sin, and is my favorite good ending haha.) Kosuke's VA was really good aswell! All of Kosuke's lines were well delivered, and him being the main character, must've been very strenuous to voice act. I applaud every single VA in this game, even the side characters (which I was pleasantly surprised that the side characters even had VAs) As for the story, I absolutely LOVED IT. All of the sins have their own allure that honestly could appeal to any single person. I found myself loving all the sins (except Pride, but I had prideful people so thats probably a me thing haha). As I said before, Sloth is my absolute favorite route, but Gluttony, Envy, and Greed were very enjoyable as well!. This game has a lot of achievements aswell, and getting through them might prove to be difficult but very rewarding for those who are into that typa stuff. Anyways I give this game a 9/10! It's just that minor function in the ending that I don't like all too much, but everything else is simply fantastic!
I honestly liked this game a bunch. I will say some of the art in some scenes is a bit weird looking style wise in comparison to other scenes, and the whole bitcoin thing was strange (I kinda zoned out there) but ultimately it was a lot of fun to play. It did take a while to check out all the endings (except envy's) since I had to keep going thru all the stories again but I'm glad I did. The voice acting was awesome! Never wanted a polyamours option more but I was really into Greed's ending! He was the best! It was really fun to get texts from the other sins you've already been with throughout other peoples stories, and small dialogue changes depending on what you've already done. Very cool! I would love to play more if a DLC or sequel ever came out.
