Shoot'em up.
Decent side scrolling shooter.

pew pew! pew! pew pew! pew pew pew! Often frustrating, but somehow still quite generous. Wish the story of war and revolution clicked more for me, but hey not all games can have it all! pew pew! pew pew pew! pew!
Played EX first, thought it was garbage. Played this after, think the same. Play Skyforce or Jets and Guns
No matter how high I put the mouse sensitivity, I still need a mile and a half of desk to move the damn plane. More times than I can count, in order to move the plane from one side of the screen to another, I need to move my mouse to the edge of my desk, and then pick it up and drag it over again. I've knocked over my drink like four times playing this. I shouldn't need so much room just to play a simple video game. It's a classic style of gameplay, but I just wish they did it well.
Hi-rez 2D horizontal shooter. Fly planes and shoot enemies as you follow the story of an empire and a resistance. Employ time-manipulation tools to evade enemy fire. Collect powerups for better weaponry. This game has been superceded by Sine Mora EX, which maintains the same elements but, among other things, has voice actors in english as opposed to the original japanese. The story appears to be the same, and the original is no longer on the market, so this review is largely for reference. Sine Mora is a very pretty spiritual successor to Vanguard. On a screen scrolling right to left, you're flying a plane shooting at enemies that appear to the right. Literally, a plane: the ships in this game are different kinds of prop planes. As opposed to classic 8-bit scenery, the background and opponents are lovingly detailed, with rocks that look like rocks, suitably murky water (yes, planes can apparently fly underwater) and so on. This can make opponents hard to see sometimes, but you can see where the shots are coming from and the health bars over them as you shoot at them. The story describes a war between a totalitarian empire and the rebel forces who oppose it. You find yourself on different sides in different scenarios, sometimes fighting for the empire, sometimes trying to survive outside of it. The story has promise, if you like shooters enough to work your way through the scenarios; alternately, the story makes it a value-added shooter. Bosses can be revisited outside the story for extra practice. Horizontal shooters aren't my typical preferred fare, but I'm likely to give Sine Mora EX a try to see where the story goes.
Good eats.
