Silk Roads: Caravan Kings is a relaxing blend of trading game and walking simulator. The journey to Cathay and back is laden with pleasant music and flavorful events. Nothing complex here. No competition either. You've got five goods, and one of them is supplies. A basic health and morale system for your merchant. Five religious factions whose opinions influence your prices. There's a smattering of other items you may gain, use, or lose through the events. You control your route and when you leave settlements, but once you're on the road, you can't stop. That's it. My first trip took two and a half hours. I wouldn't recommend this game to you if you want business strategy (like Gazillionaire). The primary focus here is on the "journey through a foreign world scarcely explored in popular media." It does well in that regard. I felt a connection to my character and some desire to roleplay my decisions. Does this game have intricate layers of choices and consequences (like King of Dragon Pass)? No, again, nothing complex here. There's some variance in what a choice determines, but there are choices that are obviously better than others. [strike]Gripes about the game? Well, there's an Agility stat which determines travel time length, but moving from Venice to Cathay takes real life time. I'd have appreciated a fast forward button for at least 2x speed. Also, for a game that revolves around events, there's a number of repeats with seemingly little delay. My lute kept breaking, I kept misplacing my bow, and flies kept haunting me. The immersion suffers a bit for it.[/strike] EDIT: As of the Jan. 20 update, there's a game speed toggle for up to 4x, and the events repeat less. Immersion also suffers from the ending message when you finally deliver your payload to Venice (though, admittedly, I... generously violated the time length of my contract). One more thing: I like the game's map, but there's no ability to zoom out during the trip. It'd be nice to get a sense of how distant the settlements are along the route without using a search engine. Final verdict? Game's worth the price of admission because of its focus, not its nuance. With Silk Roads: Caravan Kings, you can kick back and enjoy a relatively carefree trip. Odd to say that for what would have historically been a harrowing journey... Ah, well. Now suck the poison out of my foot so I can armor up and face the Genoans!

The game has been well worth the investment in money and time I've put into it. My first journey was immersive and very interesting. However, the game doesn't seem to be completely done. There was quite too much repetition of events, even in my first playthrough. Also, after I got back to Venice and made and almost 50 times return on the capital I got lent, the game text says that I didn't make any money and would have to go out again... what? This took away a little from the satisfaction of the achievement and I'd love to see an actual scaled retirement option, with flavour text according to how successful one was in the game. Finally, although the journey was not easy, and I have no clue how someone is expected to fulfill the initial contractual timeline, I think that the risks of the silk road seemed a littel easy on the player. The fabulous returns didn't fall from heaven and the player should have to deal with the possibility of being robbed, killed, falling seriously ill etc. I got ill several times and was quite short on supplies sometimes, but I was never threatened by this kind of serious problems and/or by competition. I'm no expert on the silk road and my perception about its challenges may be wrong though. At any rate, I do recommend the game, if you like trading games and are interested in this period of history.
What a relaxing game! I'm tired of all those "bang bang" games and this one is refreshing! If you want to play something intelligent without all the stress, this is the one!
Frustrierend!
The games fun. Most of my gripes are pretty minor, with some minor bugs. City names being incorrect when travelling, Weirdly loud click noises when music is muted on SOME events. And the game seemingly having incorrect ending story? I returned with nearly 60 thousand ducats of silk, and was told that i was "little better off than start" other than that, its a fun little time waster.
Thank you! I enjoyed this caravan sim. A lot of events, adventures and management.
Underrated Masterpiece
Silk Roads: Caravan Kings'te efsanevi Marco Polo'nun izlerini takip ederek zenginlik ve macera arayışı içinde Cathay'a doğru bir yolculuğa çıkıyorsunuz.
