A perfect poetic metaphor backed by beautiful writing, art, and music. I've played this game through at least 4 times, I was delighted to play it through for the first time today here on Steam, I find something new in it both in new conversations and new meanings within the mechanics and new ideas about myself. What a fantastic piece of art.
Great concept, but hard and unfun to play
I love the way this game forces you to meet people in the middle on their perspectives as a gameplay mechanic and that you come away from every conversation changed by what they had to say. The cozy gameplay and beautiful art is wonderful as well, but the core mechanic is so unique and interesting.

A game that uses cards to simulate how your experiences change the way you speak with those around you. Genuinely the only card-based games I've played that made me have emotions (other than elation at an infinite combo or anger at bottom-decking a useful card). Your first game will probably be a failure. But don't be discouraged! It's only a couple hours to get there and you'll learn from it.
Presenting conversations as a card game where you are trying your best to cooperate with your "opponent" is an inspired idea. Your deck representing your worldview changing as you talk with people is some incredible harmony between the storytelling and the gameplay. The card play itself is not super deep, but I see this as more of a story-centric game than a deckbuilder even if it can technically be described as one. I noticed that other reviews complained about it being impossible to make a deck that works everywhere, but I feel that this way the game really forces you to be invested in the stories you decide to pursue. Not being able to perfectly mingle with everyone everywhere is one of the core ideas of the game. Overall I enjoyed signs of the sojourner a lot, though I feel that the somewhat shallow gameplay makes a second playthrough a bit unappealing despite the fact that I want to see more of its world and characters.
Match the symbols game, each town has it's own preferences.. first three towns are all fairly identical. Circles and Triangles mostly. But as you interact with people on the journey, you're forced to take a card they played and exchange it for one of your cards. Actively punishes you for playing their game. Next few towns are entirely different, that's where the Squares and Diamonds come into play. I would love to just play the game but can't get past the feeling that trying to play the game actively ruins the game since you have to match to progress. As you visit new towns, you'll fail their conversation card game because you don't have those symbols, but you'll get a card of their symbol at the cost of one you have in your deck. Thus you lose the ability to talk to your own town, or the other two towns near yours. What a silly concept. As you venture further from home, you lose yourself.. that's the life lesson.. got it. Going to look for a mod that turns all the symbols into dog paws.
This game is amazing. It's beautiful, it's cute, it's satisfying. I absolutely love it. Just don't expect very deep gameplay and don't try to optimize everything. You're gonna try and often fail to see eye to eye with everyone - and that's the beauty of it. Play this game if you like going on journeys, chatting with all kinds of folks and just vibing in a vibrant world.
I enjoyed this game so much that I immediately played it through again, trying to take a different approach the second time. I will likely return to it again later to get some more achievements, which are surprisingly hard to do without some luck on your side. I feel the card mechanics are very unique and interesting. It's a great cozy game with no aggressive combat. It's all about relating to other people. The atmoshere and art is lovely as well.
This is a wholesome game, with an authentic and handmade vibe to it. The game mechanics were also really nice!
