SIGNALIS

Short version: I am scared of horror games really bad and I had to give this game a break for a week because it was affecting my sleep. Despite this, I beat it and I cried a lot when I beat it. Absolutely amazing game, great looking, great sounding and the story (ill go into this later) is very great also. I would recommend. Long version: [spoiler] When this game references End of Evangelion, it is communicating to you that you will have to seek out the story of the game yourself. Having beaten this game, I spent countless hours trying to figure out what was real and what was constructed, coming up with theories about this game that aren't full of holes. I just realised that I will never end up with a perfect theory. Why is the Penrose on Leng? Is it even on Leng? How did it get to the red expanse? Why do we start the game in Ariane's radio room? What cycle of Elster trying to fulfil her promise are we on? How powerful was Ariane's bioresonance? Every theory for the plot of this game is built on sticks, and that absolutely isn't for everyone. Regardless, I love a story that doesn't give you a satisfying explanation and I am happy to go 'This horrible stuff happened and we don't really know why', along the lines of the film Annihilation, or EoE. I actually love this game as an example for how to tell a meaningful, yet confusing story. [/spoiler]

This is the closest experience I have had to Evangelion in terms of getting lost in the lore after finishing it and analyzing every.single.frame. I loved this game to death.

The story is a 10/10 but can be hard to piece everything together in a single playthrough. So best to watch a story deep dive on YouTube after beating the game. The combat is an 8/10. It's very standard for survival horror games. The puzzles are a 9.5/10. Most of them are just right in terms of complexity. Not too easy but not too hard. But make sure to actually read the documents you find around the game. The atmosphere is an easy 10/10. SIGNALIS is a masterpiece that deserves to placed next to the Silent Hill and Resident Evil games. If you're a fan of the survival horror genre then this is must play.

Don't think I can really encapsulate my thoughts properly when it comes to this game. What I can say though is that it's possibly one of the most memorable video gaming experiences I've had and will ever have for a long time.

I'm not particularly into old-school Resident Evil-style games, but this game is a gem that is worth the experience and more, so much so that I've finished it a bunch of times and even got platinum. In particular, as someone who favors story-oriented games, the narrative, although opaque, is genuinely one of the best I've experienced in any game (I'll admit I needed YouTube video explainations to get a better hang of it, but it was fascinating already the first time I played).

immaculate vibes with this one, i love the mystery of the places you explore throughout the game. the lore you get to read about is also very fascinating, along with the different characters you come across. also cool puzzles!
