I enjoyed how simple yet difficult the game was. I also enjoyed how real the game was in general, between the real situations that everyone struggles sometimes and facing your demons, i enjoyed the game 10/10 would play again!!!
Adorable game with a story full of empathy and heart. The story arcs made me tear up!
Well-made game! The art and animation is really great, and I enjoyed listening to and reading the different characters' thoughts. The gameplay is a little generic, but it's fine and the controls are good. I definitely started enjoying it more when new mechanics were introduced- the first time there was a boss fight, I was really surprised (in a good way)! Other mechanics I thought were creative were Oakley's shouting mechanic and how it changed with the story, and the "game within a game" idea in Taylor's level. One small thing I wanted to point out is that I didn't realize that you could advance the dialogue bubbles at first, so for a little while I only saw the first piece of text for each bubble. I think I would've realized it sooner if the little icon at the bottom was animated (to indicate that you should press a button) or if the dialogue box stopped you from being able to move away. Even though it's really, really short (my playtime is having replayed the first three levels), $5 isn't much so I think the price works. Although maybe it's unlikely, I would love to see this developed into a longer game, with more time to develop each of the characters' stories.
More than I expected. tl;dr: Buy the game, and support good people doing good things! Play the game, and find some hope. If these folks can do this much while this young, imagine what they'll do as they grow older and skill up. As a long-time Kickstarter supporter of Girls Make Games, you'd expect that I think their stuff is cool. Indeed, this is a solid game, and I do think it's cool. A 2D side-scrolling platformer. Nice art. Bug free. A pretty big win from a small team of young designers. Beyond that, the real draw is the surprisingly thoughtful characters. As you play through the story, you encounter thought bubbles that play small bits of internal monologue. It would have been easy to simply stereotype characters along the standard school-clique lines, but this game does more. Each character has small bits of real complexity.
