About
SHIRIME: The Curse of Butt-Eye | 尻目 is the story of a Yokai called Shirime.
This is the first chapter in a series of horror games - 7TaleZ - based on Japanese folklore.
As the protagonist John, your objective is to find your missing girlfriend Sharon in the creepy Shirime Forest. However, your journey is not without peril as you are stalked by the eerie and malevolent yokai, Shirime.
To survive, you'll need to hide and run to evade Shirime's pursuit, making sure to pay attention to your surroundings and use the environment to your advantage.
The gameplay focuses on exploration, survival horror, and evasion elements. Your primary objective is to collect pages scattered throughout the forest that will reveal the story behind Sharon's disappearance.
However, each page you collect increases the intensity of Shirime's pursuit, making it harder to progress. You'll need to use your wits to evade and outrun Shirime while exploring the forest and finding new pages.
Speaking of the Yokai Shirime, the kanji is written as 尻目. 尻 (shiri) means "buttocks" while 目 (me) means "eye." So, literally translated, Shirime means "butt eye."

THE CURSE OF BUTT-EYE is a challenging and engaging horror game that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Can you uncover the truth about Sharon's disappearance and escape the curse of Shirime?

THIS GAME WAS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! LOVED EVERY MINUTE!! SOME TENSE SCARE MOMENTS WHEN BEING CHASED, DEFFO RECOMMEND THE GAME!
This has to be on of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The tension when I was getting chased by this booty hole eyed creature was one of the most terrifying feeling I have ever felt in my life. I cried, I laughed, and I ♥♥♥♥ all over my set up. This game is hands down game of the year 2023. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I recommend if you want the best experience stream this game to your friends cause they will enhance the horror experience by scaring you more than the monster. 10/10 would butt again
This game gave me pink eye.
ass
So, my best friend was browsing games on steam (as you do). Then she comes across one of her favourite things. Arses. So she thought in her stupid little brain, that I should play this game even though she's the one scouting for games to play. Whereas myself, was just relaxing in my humble abode, MY SANCTUARY OF RELAXATION HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. She proposed that I should play this game for the sheer entertainment of hearing me scream to arses. I thought at first this is a stupid game so I said lets flip a coin. BEARING IN MIND, THAT I BEAT HER AND SHE AS YOU MAY SAY 'PUSSIED OUT' SHE SAID INSTEAD LETS PLAY TO BEST OF THREE. I STUPIDLY ACCEPTED AND LOST. I played the game, and I have never as much in my entire life screamed so much that I will not be surprised if I receive a noise complaint. Despite the sheer utter horror, this game felt very nostalgic to previous scary games I would play when as a kid with my friends. Overall, 10/10 scary experience. Story time over.
I loved the concept, but didn't care for the actual gameplay. It really just boiled down to a monster chasing you around a maze. Here I am playing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gweGqgQYn28
Frohlockend, erblickte ich, dass ein Freund mir dieses Spiel präsentet hat. Ich dachte mir also, lets go ab ins Abenteuer.
this game got me a warning for youtube next time can get me a strike
SHIRIME: The Curse of Butt-Eye is a survival horror experience developed by 7TaleZ and 100 Creepy Tales that transforms an unusual piece of Japanese folklore into a tense and surprisingly effective psychological horror adventure. Inspired by the legendary yokai Shirime, the game combines exploration, environmental storytelling, and constant pursuit mechanics to create an unsettling journey through a cursed forest filled with paranoia and supernatural terror. What initially sounds absurd because of the creature’s strange folkloric origins gradually becomes genuinely disturbing thanks to the game’s oppressive atmosphere and clever use of tension. The story follows a man named John as he searches for his missing girlfriend Sharon, who vanished inside the mysterious Shirime Forest. What begins as a desperate rescue mission quickly turns into a nightmare when John realizes the forest is haunted by a supernatural entity connected to the ancient curse of Shirime. As players move deeper into the dark wilderness searching for clues and scattered pages revealing the truth behind the disappearances, they become the target of the creature itself. Every discovery pushes the story forward while simultaneously making survival more difficult. One of the game’s strongest elements is how effectively it handles its central monster. Shirime is based on a bizarre yokai from Japanese mythology, but the developers successfully reinterpret the creature in a way that feels genuinely uncomfortable and threatening. The horror comes less from shock value and more from the strange psychological tension created by its unnatural presence. The game embraces the unsettling weirdness of folklore rather than trying to turn the creature into a generic horror villain, which helps give the experience a unique identity. Gameplay revolves mainly around exploration, survival, and avoiding direct confrontation. Players navigate through dark forest environments while collecting pages that reveal more information about the curse and Sharon’s disappearance. However, every page gathered increases the danger level by making Shirime more aggressive and unpredictable. This creates a constant sense of pressure because progressing through the story always comes with greater risk. The game turns curiosity itself into a dangerous decision, forcing players to balance exploration with survival instincts. The lack of traditional combat systems works strongly in the game’s favor. Instead of empowering players with weapons and direct action mechanics, SHIRIME focuses on vulnerability and helplessness. Escaping, hiding, and remaining aware of the environment become essential survival tools. Since players cannot simply fight back against the creature, every encounter carries real tension and fear. The game consistently makes players feel hunted, especially during moments where distant sounds or sudden movement suggest Shirime may be nearby. Atmosphere is easily one of the game’s greatest achievements. The forest feels oppressive and isolated from the very beginning, with darkness and environmental audio constantly creating tension even during quieter moments. Limited visibility, dense fog, unsettling ambient sounds, and sudden audio distortions combine to create an environment where players rarely feel safe. The forest itself almost becomes a character, trapping players inside a hostile world that grows more dangerous as the story unfolds. Visually, the game uses lighting and environmental design effectively despite its smaller indie budget. The dark wooded environments are filled with disturbing imagery and subtle details that reinforce the supernatural atmosphere. The visual presentation occasionally shifts into surreal territory during more intense sequences, creating moments that feel dreamlike and psychologically unstable. Shirime’s design itself remains memorable because of how faithfully the game embraces its folkloric origins while still making the creature genuinely disturbing. The sound design deserves particular praise because it plays a massive role in maintaining fear throughout the experience. Distant noises, unnatural sounds, rustling movement, and stretches of near silence constantly keep players nervous while exploring. The game avoids overusing loud music, instead allowing environmental sounds and subtle audio cues to build suspense naturally. Hearing signs of Shirime before actually seeing the creature often becomes more frightening than direct encounters themselves. Another aspect that helps the game stand out is its strong connection to Japanese mythology. Many indie horror games rely on generic supernatural concepts, but SHIRIME builds its entire identity around a lesser-known yokai legend. This folkloric inspiration gives the game more personality and helps it feel distinct from other survival horror projects focused purely on standard monsters or haunted locations. However, the gameplay loop does become somewhat repetitive over time. Exploration, page collection, and evasion remain the primary mechanics throughout most of the experience, and players looking for deeper puzzle systems or more varied gameplay may eventually notice the limited structure. The slower pacing may also frustrate players expecting nonstop action or constant horror set pieces. Technical roughness is visible in some areas as well. Certain animations, environmental interactions, and AI behaviors occasionally feel underdeveloped compared to larger horror titles. While these flaws rarely ruin the atmosphere entirely, they sometimes reduce immersion during more intense moments. Despite these shortcomings, SHIRIME: The Curse of Butt-Eye succeeds because of its originality and atmosphere. The game transforms a strange piece of Japanese folklore into an engaging horror experience built around fear, vulnerability, and psychological discomfort. Its combination of exploration, supernatural tension, and folkloric inspiration creates a memorable identity that helps it stand apart from more conventional indie horror games. For players who enjoy atmospheric survival horror centered around exploration, evasion, and unsettling folklore, SHIRIME: The Curse of Butt-Eye offers a strange but genuinely effective horror experience filled with tension and memorable imagery. Its repetitive mechanics and indie limitations prevent it from reaching the heights of larger horror releases, but fans of psychological horror and Japanese mythology will likely find a surprisingly immersive nightmare hidden within the cursed forest. Rating: 7/10
