I'm going to be nice and say it should have been a very early access. The game is unplayable. -Character movement is broken running is inconsistent and crouching will not engage sometimes. -Hit boxes and interaction prompts are off their mark. -Interaction prompt show up when there is nothing to interact with or on the wrong place or they don't. -Removing grills is a different interaction button. -Monster behaviour is broken, they will sometime ignore you when you are right in front of them, sometime chase you 2 rooms over. -Sound design is broken. Sounds like enemy scare are triggered long after you killed the enemy, or in the case of the big guy, you can hear him, even thought he his on the other side of the wall in a different area of the map. No where near you. -No indication of the objective to achieve on the screen. When they show it to you, two different text appear one on top of each other making it unreadable. -Get stuck in doors, and set piece constantly. -Automatic Doors (red one) will not open so you have to dance in front of them in hopes they will. -Regular doors will get you stuck when they open towards you or push you away. -Some save points too far apart. -Can't proceed to an area because of an invisible wall blocking you. So you have to reload the game. -Removing crates and grills leads to ridiculous interaction and the sound of them can get stuck on a loop. -Multiple crash to desktop or game freeze. Game is not even shown on the developer website.
I like Claustrophobia. It has a fun mix of horror, puzzle and combat elements. The start of the game is a bit stale, but the further you progress you will notice a clear improvement in level design. Note: If you wanna try something fun, when you encounter the planks that you need for puzzles, place them under your feet. You will be launched throughout the facility. definitely not intended, but still fun xD
I can understand some of the other reviews, but I personally still had fun. At the time of this review there are some bugs to be worked out, given that the game only came out a few days ago that’s fairly normal for a major game, let alone one developed by one person. The checkpoints are spaced out a bit far currently and I can see that being a bit frustrating, but the developer is in the midst of fixing that as well as some other things. Day zero bugs aside, I personally had fun with this when I wasn’t dying and am interested to see how this develops and what comes next in game. Plus for the price it does it’s job: it provides a good spook, challenging gameplay, and an eerie atmosphere. If you’d like to see some gameplay and shenanigans, I made a short little video here: https://youtu.be/9wq5marhlYY
I really enjoyed this game! first time i played it, it scared the hell out of me. conidering that this game is made by a very small handfull of people its very well done. The graphics fit very good and it gives the gameplay a very deep and scary atmosphere. the sound is also very well done. really recommend the game to everyone whos loking for some scarejumps and find theyrselves in a dark story. good job sentinelstudios!
Impressions from pre-launch: https://auncollective.medium.com/claustrophobia-first-impressions-bad93bccd1f8 There's an interesting storyline, voice acting that's not terrible given the likely small budget of the studio, and exploration is often worthwhile even if some of the corridors are a bit drab and repetitive. Actual industrial settings are often drab and repetitive though, so I won't fault the developer on that. Claustrophobia is like the natural evolution of an old graphic adventure to a modern 3D engine with some modern design sensibilities. It still requires quite a bit of item collection, some backtracking, and puzzle solving. Coming from the 90s and early 00s, when anything resembling a polished gaming experience was often quite expensive in the US, the $9 price tag seems more than fair. Given what $9 can buy nowadays if you aren't super picky about getting the latest AAA title, it's slightly high. The developer needs the game to be profitable more than likely, so the price is adequate. There's an interesting story and universe that needs a bit more in the gameplay department. Multiple paths helps with replayability. Combat seems best avoided, if possible, which might be intentional. Thank you for the free key! I'm going to recommend (barely) based on: professionalism of the developer in responding to complaints, continued work on improving the game, and the game itself being enjoyable for what it is. There appears to be considerable time, effort, and planning put into this game, and there appears to be a base level of talent that if developed further, could result in a really good title being released by this developer in the future.
TLDR; Interesting story, fun gameplay, some bugs. Recommend! Claustrophobia is a pretty cool horror story, I still dont understand it completely but its definitely a lot deeper than i thought it was going to be. The gameplay is pretty cool, the AI sometimes bugs out and that makes it less fun but generally speaking its a good game and def worth the money.
I gave this game the benefit of the doubt considering the other reviews. This was a mistake. You are thrust right into the game with no story given at all. Only indicator of what to do did not really let you know exactly what you were looking for. Save points were too far apart. Couldn't defend against enemy. No health bar. Found out hard way that there was fall damage. So to pretty much sum it up: Nothing was properly explained and game play was clunky. The scariest part of this game were all the spelling errors.
Why do I buy these games...
Watch the Video of this game on my channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpImmfj-YVOwtFLH6by2jkQ Please watch before you purchase this game!!!!!! I would not recommend this game at its current status. Needs a lot of work.
