LOOOOOVEEED IT. Only disappointment is that I was very confused when I completed the second room and apparently that's all the content there is? We want more! More more more! More more more! We want more!
A different kind of these tidy up games. I love all the cats and wish I could adopt them.
This is my first sorting game and I like it a lot! The puzzles were fun to solve and with each color I remembered the solutions better and better, and by the end was quickly sorting without any hints. Huge props for not using GenAI, something that stopped me from trying out the genre in the first place.

yay it's clean
I shorted the bottles for the kitties. 10/10 game.
wholesome y satisfactorio :)
This is a lovely little sorting game, worth the time spent to put all the potions away. I enjoyed the puzzles wrapped within puzzles, and while I do think there could have been a little improvement on the spells (like an option to sort what is in hand), overall I enjoyed this very much. It is especially refreshing to know that every bit of this game was made without the use of AI, and I appreciate the dev taking the time to show his step by step work. I know the world is heavily torn on AI use in most anything, and I understand that it can be very frowned upon right now and even sink some games before they've even had a fair chance to be played and rated based on anything outside of AI use, so I don't want to immediately praise this on that fact alone, but I will give praise to acknowledge it, and know appreciate the extra effort that was put into the making of this game. I found the rumbling thunder to be quite nice and soothing, too, and while the fluttering bats were cute, they did seem to occasionally get in the way of what I was doing, by getting in my face from time to time. LOL! I won't put a negative on the game for that, though, as it was merely a silly distraction from my hyperfocus within the game. I look forward to seeing more from this developer!
Shelve the Potions! builds an entire puzzle experience around an activity that sounds almost mundane: putting bottles back where they belong. The result is considerably more engaging than the premise suggests, combining organization, environmental observation, logical deduction, and cozy fantasy atmosphere. Developed and published by Knight Owl Games, it places the player in the role of a newly arrived witch's apprentice who discovers that a group of troublesome cats has created an enormous mess. Thousands of magical potions have been knocked from their proper places, leaving the workshop in desperate need of someone patient enough to restore order. The core objective is to correctly arrange more than 2,000 potions spread across over 20 handcrafted shelving puzzles. That number gives the game an impressive sense of scale, but the bottles are not simply repetitive objects waiting to be sorted by color. Individual shelves can follow different organizational rules, requiring players to study bottle shapes, colors, markings, labels, symbols, and other visual characteristics. Figuring out the rule behind a shelf is often more important than physically moving the potions themselves. This gives the experience the character of a deduction puzzle rather than a straightforward cleanup simulator. Environmental clues add another layer to the problem solving. Notes, symbols, unusual objects, and details around the workshop can provide information needed to understand certain arrangements. The game encourages careful observation rather than explaining every solution immediately. A mysterious marking that initially seems insignificant can later become an important clue, and information discovered in one area may help make sense of another puzzle. This approach rewards curiosity and gives exploration a meaningful connection to the primary sorting mechanics. The strongest moments come when a confusing collection of bottles suddenly makes sense. Once the player recognizes the underlying pattern, reorganizing a chaotic shelf becomes genuinely satisfying. The handcrafted nature of the puzzles helps keep this process from feeling like endless inventory management. Some challenges appear relatively straightforward, while others require more careful reasoning and experimentation. This gradual variation is important because the game's fundamental activity remains deliberately simple throughout. Its relaxed structure is equally appealing. There are no timers forcing players to rush through the workshop and no harsh penalties for experimenting with possible arrangements. Players can inspect the environment, move objects around, reconsider their assumptions, and approach each shelf at their preferred pace. This makes the game particularly attractive for anyone who enjoys puzzle solving as a calming activity rather than as a test of reflexes or speed. The absence of constant pressure also complements the cozy magical setting. The cats responsible for the initial disaster provide an amusing thematic touch while also contributing to the hint system. Players who become stuck can seek assistance rather than remaining trapped indefinitely on a particularly obscure piece of logic. Hints can help locate relevant information or provide guidance toward a solution. Because assistance is optional, players who want maximum challenge can rely entirely on their own observations, while those more interested in relaxing organization can use hints whenever progress becomes frustrating. Visually, the fantasy workshop is an excellent setting for this concept. Rows of colorful and unusually shaped potion bottles naturally create opportunities for visual classification while giving the shelves considerably more personality than ordinary household objects would provide. The first-person viewpoint also helps transform the workshop into an explorable space instead of presenting every challenge as an isolated puzzle screen. Combined with the magical theme, this makes the process of examining shelves and searching for clues feel more immersive. Accessibility and convenience features further support the relaxed design. Full controller support is especially welcome for players who prefer something other than mouse and keyboard, while color-related accessibility options are valuable when visual distinctions are important to solving puzzles. Steam achievements and Steam Cloud functionality provide useful extras without distracting from the central experience. Steam Deck compatibility is a notable advantage. The game is officially Steam Deck Verified, with its core functionality working through the handheld's controls and its interface remaining usable on the smaller display. Controller prompts and general navigation are appropriately supported, while the game can run using settings suitable for the device. Its viewpoint and methodical pacing also translate naturally to portable play, although demanding visual settings can still make sensible performance adjustments worthwhile for players prioritizing battery life or consistent performance. The largest potential weakness is simply how specialized the concept is. Someone who loves sorting objects, identifying patterns, solving environmental clues, and gradually transforming visual chaos into neat arrangements may find it extremely satisfying. Players who need action, extensive storytelling, combat, or rapid mechanical variety may find the repeated focus on shelves and potions too narrow. Even though the puzzle rules provide variation, everything ultimately revolves around organizing objects correctly. Shelve the Potions! succeeds by expanding a simple organizational fantasy into a substantial collection of deduction challenges. The thousands of bottles provide scale, handcrafted shelves provide variety, environmental clues reward exploration, and optional hints prevent difficult puzzles from unnecessarily stopping progress. Its cozy presentation and pressure-free structure make it particularly well suited to methodical players who find satisfaction in discovering patterns and creating order from chaos. It is a focused concept rather than an attempt to appeal to everyone, but within that niche it has plenty of charm and a surprisingly strong puzzle foundation. Rating: 8/10
