Cute game but it feels like the developers' studio was hit by a giant meteor and they all died mid developing and someone found the project and released the game anyway
The game is still a bit rough around the edges. I encountered most of the bugs the developer mentioned in the launch day update, along with a few additional ones of my own. None of these completely broke the game, except for one issue: the autosave system can get stuck, meaning it doesn’t actually save. This caused me to lose all progress through an entire dungeon. That said, it didn’t stop me from finishing the game—I just had to replay the dungeon. The story is charming and sweet, although the ending felt a bit abrupt. The main character is adorable, memorable, and genuinely fun to play. The developers did a great job designing the outfits and weapons. The combat is enjoyable and can be surprisingly challenging on higher difficulty settings. The platforming sections were also well done. It took me around 13 hours the first time to reach the end, and I never felt like my time was wasted. That being said, I’d recommend picking it up on sale until the remaining bugs are resolved. The good news is that the developer seems dedicated to ironing out the issues.
This game has flashes of interesting stuff but they're buried so far beneath the buggy, messy and unfinished feeling rest of the game that it just makes me sad. I see the vision here, it could have been a great exploration game, were it not for the wonky platforming controls, buggy combat that makes you take damage from nothing (and dares to have an achievement for finishing the game without dying on top of that), aimless level design and swaths of terrain with just nothing on it. This game needed like a year more in development, to iron out the combat bugs, to make platforming more responsive, to make the story flow more consistent and obvious at the very least. It's hard to recommend a game such as this when there are much better alternatives all over Steam.
Good concept, but very buggy. I liked most of the game, though some of the segments are frustrating Good: -Fun game mechanics -Amazing world building -Great graphics Bad: -parkour and puzzles in the temples get more frustrating as you progress, it often feels like I am using some speedrun mechanics skip mechanics to get to other areas -extremely buggy ->lots of wall/floor glitches ->whenever you destroy a crystal, it equips the mechanical sword; sure, it's acquired later on and likely the default sword you should use, but if I equip a different sword, it should stay equipped ->"saving" doesn't save your current progress; you get sent back to some automatic save spot and need to repeat a lot when you load "your" save file ->(this lead to me dropping the game) the winter temple entrance can't be reached because the ice platforms I see in other videos do not exist whether I use winter magic or not I would overlook most of these bugs, but if the game becomes only beatable with speedrunning tactics, I cannot recommend this game if it's not sold with that premise being the focus of the game. I do think the developer can make good games, but they should test the game and fix bugs like this before releasing it.
+ pretty pixarlike environment and characters + tomboyish MC + pretty effects with crystals + soothing music + little riddles + riddles get better midgame - audio bugs (sometimes no background music, missmatching audio from npcs who arent there anymore, overlapping BGMs) - some buggy terrain (but there seems to be a stuck reset) - buggy quest leftovers (doesnt seem to remember your progress in quests or give quest answer even you didnt get the quest yet) - floating items - weird random bugs (falling through ground, or passing walls, locked out from saving and had to restart) - some mechanics can log you out off the game (falling through graphics or stuck somewhere) - saves are pretty much unreliable (better save often) - Hats or costume will come off, when you continue a game - terrain seems often to be empty and dead - like the npcs too - ending didnt really fit together Conclusion: Hard to recommend this one. when you wanna fight all the bugs its still a decent game with its moment. Else nope. Score: 49 13/10 Muscle Beef! 13/10 Grunt! 1337/10 Boogie!
Fazit: Ary and the secret of seasons wollte zu viel und ist daran krachend gescheitert.
Reseña de Ary and the Secret of Seasons
