Worth every dime you pay for it. Very fun story that just want you to keep going on. Please give me more Shakedown!
so retro
This game is a ton of fun with so much to do. It has a pretty good story line with plenty of hilarious dialogue throughout the game! If you like top down action games like Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars you'll probably love this game. Everything to do in this game is pretty fun whether it's the missions, the mini games, the shakedowns, even just crusing around running folks over with a variety of different cars. The soundtrack is very very good as well! I found myself listening to the soundtrack often on apple music cause it's that good. But yeah I had a great time with this game, definitely check this out if you're into this style of games.
I would really recommend this game for someone who wants a game like Hotline Miami 1 or 2. I really like that games and I wanted something that feels a bit like them, i have tried ruiner but it did not hook me like Shakedown Hawaii. Shakedown Hawaii plays like an old gta game with really good and modern mechanics. Here is a list with the similarities between the games: 1. Top-Down perspective 2. face sprites 3. similar atmosphere (set in Hawaii like Beard missions) 4. large variety of weapons/guns 5. pixelated artstyle 6. music sounds a bit similar 7. multiple playable characters (this game does not try to replicate Hotline Miami in any way, this is just my personal impression. The game is actually much more and anyone who likes the asthetic should give it a try.)
This was fun. I enjoyed the variety of missions (although some are trivially short) and the humour. I don't complete many games but the story led me along to owning everything on the island at max income. The property aspect and earning income multipliers keeps things bubbling along, although earning cash becomes a non-problem after a certain point. I would say the driving was the most underwhelming/frustrating aspect for me and I hated the missions where you had to drive, but there are few of these. Not sure it's worth full $ (it's quite shallow when it comes down to it) but a steal when on sale.
Brilliant. First of all : I played this game on a retroid pcket 6 through gamenative, it runs out of the box, perfectly. Second : This game is what gta2 would be if it was released today. Mechanics, camera and controls are similar, but expanded with modern amenities and conveniences. . A very well executed and polished experience. Third : Atmosphere and humorous storytelling is lightly dark - in just the right way. I was instantly drawn in and was not disappointed, Critique: I ended up completing the game and was hungry for more, leaving me with achievement hunting. The game is solid, and could easily sustain a larger expanded world.
Finished the story including buying everything in about 10 hours. Really enjoyed my time with it! The game is mostly a constant barrage of shorter action segments that remind me a lot of the 2D GTA games. There's enough different variants of the gameplay segments and mini-games to keep things fresh. It's very fast paced and arcade-y, and has forgiving autosaves that let you quickly retry a mission from a checkpoint if you fail. I was never annoyed while playing this. After each action segment you are hit with a short dialogue cutscene. I really enjoyed the writing, the commentary on consumerism and modern enshittification, as well as the excellent retro vibes. It's oozing with cynicism, but stays entertaining throughout. Overall score: 9/10! I wish there was a little more side content to explore in the open world outside of the main story, but I can't really expect that from a small indie game like this.
pretty damn fun and runs on anything
