way too confusing and the manual didnt really help at all
I wasn't sure I would like this game. The graphics are pretty terrible and the interface is clunky. But then I played it. The mechanics are nice and unique. It's got a lot to keep up with and the informational screens need work .... but the gameplay is simply a lot of fun. There's not a lot of other games in this genre and it really does come through at what it says on the tin ... be the dark lord and destroy/takeover the world. And after playing awhile and enjoying it, I thought, "The graphics and GUI aren't worse than Dominions 3 and I loved that game. Plus it just got better with each version." That's why I ultimately decided to recommend this. It's fun, the price is reasonable, it's going to grow on you. EDIT: I finally read the manual and discovered there's a lot more views on the main map, which solved a lot of the lack-of-information problem. So info is available ...
Shadows Behind the Throne 2 is a bit like a plague simulator, where your goal is to remain hidden and causing chaos for long enough that by the time anyone realizes what flavour of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you're on, their societies are too weak to resist your open push. If it has a flaw, it's that oftentimes it's hard to tell WHEN you've reached this point. Is a single squad of deep ones stronger than a single squad of knights? What will these armies actually do? A lot of these things are obfuscated and beyond your control, so usually you have to really hedge your bets. Additionally, some options are extremely more useful than others, like, the aforementioned Deep Ones are probably one of the forces that are easiest to save up and hide until it's time to go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Mind, most of the deficiencies in this game appear to be a result of it being made 90% to prove that when the "That Which Sleeps" kickstarter went under, their project wasn't impossible, it was just badly executed. There's ostensibly an SBtT3 in the works which might unjangle most of the existing issues, and until then, SBtT2 works as an excellent demo for testing whether the third installment is something you want in on or not.
Distracting a nations nobles by an external threat while corrupting it from the inside and finally declaring it your dark empire to the shock and surprise of it's allies is an awesome feeling.
Surprisingly deep for a budget title. Graphics are crude, sound is minimal, music is not great (just play something else in the background), but the gameplay is unique and fun. You're an evil entity trying to tear the world apart from within and without. It is relatively easy to learn but surprisingly deep and fun.
I can see the appeal but it is too difficult for my bwain
Great game, incredibly fun to manipulate the poor saps of the world and watch it burn. Takes a fair bit of learning, and could use some polish, but very entertaining nonetheless. Amazing achievement given the development team is 2 people. Really look forward to seeing what this developer does next!
The best Bill Gates simulator.
This is a good game. Not great like Conquest of Elysium. But if they keep working on it it may become great. Help indi developers buy the thing!!! And now one more turn
It's That Which Sleeps, after all this time. It only took half a decade!
