+ Incredible metroidvania, one of the best + Still holds up after 10 years + Nolan North! + The range of movement, the powers, it's just so slick. + Props for being Steam Deck compatible, ran perfectly and looks GREAT. - Epic Games - Can't even buy it in the AU steam store right now. That's so silly. Epic Games again. - Plot is ( Y ) but whatever, it gets the job done! - Epic Games truly are awful - Mobile games: the success of Infinity Blade meant they canned Shadow Complex 2. A- A GOOD TIME
It's fun and not too difficult. Feels like Metroid Dread but way less difficult. Which made it more enjoyable for me. Had to turn off steam cloud saves or it wouldn't save though.
Not a very special metroidvania beyond the nostalgia. Passable exploration and atmosphere that might be inspired by the early MGS game, but also 100 percent dumber writing. Exploration for goodies isn't that rewarding. You can increase your grenade carry limit so much before you hit a point where its difficult to run out pf them between save points, and then your grenade carry limit doesn't matter anymore. There is a little bit of stealth. Not a lot, but this is rare in a metroidvania game, so its good. Unfortunately the game has the worst bosses I have ever encountered. Many of them feel very lazy. Some of them feel like puzzles---but not particularly rewarding ones, like the Axiom Verge bosses. They're just very, very simple and don't feel like bosses at all. It's fun though. Get it on sale if you're a fan of the genre
Shadow Complex is pretty solid for an early indie Metroidvania. This was one of the first big ones that came out during the Xbox Live Arcade days, back when the whole indie scene was just starting to blow up, It’s got that raw old school feel, running around, blowing s**t up, upgrading your suit and wrecking everything in your path. The bosses are decent and the gunplay feels satisfying, It’s got that proper sense of exploration and power fantasy, That said, it can get pretty labyrinthine and kinda tedious. The map is a pain in the a*s sometimes and it definitely shows its age. Controls are a bit stiff by today’s standards and some sections feel like pure old school ball busting Still, for a game made before everyone had easy access to engines and accessibility tools, it’s impressive, If you’re a Metroidvania fan and you haven’t played it yet, give it a go. It’s not perfect but it’s got soul. Worth your time
Shadow Complex Remastered is the kind of game that reminds you AAA studios used to take weird risks instead of making the same open-world checklist for the 47th time. It’s basically Metroid with assault rifles. You’ll spend half the game shooting mercenaries and the other half humping every wall because one of them is definitely fake. The combat still feels great, the exploration is addictive, and the only real downside is realizing it ended before it overstayed its welcome. A remaster that actually deserves the “Remastered” part.
Uncharted meets Megaman.
https://youtu.be/-Yu6eJh9XiE Offering a re-remaster at this point would be appreciated, this version still holds up well and offers a well delivered take on the metroidvania core.
