An interesting attempt to bring Serious Sam into "two dimensions." Needless to say, the game has everything you'd expect from any Serious Sam game: plenty of fun, more enemies than Biedronka sales, absurdity, and weak jokes. The game is short and a bit clunky, but it's enjoyable.
Ciekawa próba przeniesienia Serious Sama do wymiaru "dwa de". Jedyny problem według mnie to... Fan service... W postaci żeńskiej wersji bezgłowego kamikaze... Ze swoimi dużymi... Emm... Bombami...

Light recommendation Overall: 5/10 (5 being average) Gets boring after an hour, but I enjoyed that hour. After getting halfway through the Jungle area, I decided to quit. The upgrades are gated by level progression, and it takes too long to assemble fun builds. The jokes are repeated after a while. (as in, worded differently, but have a similar punchline.)

Serious Sam Double D XXL successfully proves that the legendary run-and-gun action of the Serious Sam franchise can thrive outside of its traditional first-person roots. Developed by Mommy's Best Games in partnership with Croteam and published by Devolver Digital, this expanded edition transforms the original Serious Sam Double D into a far more complete package by introducing new content, additional enemies, fresh weapons, improved mechanics, and extra missions. Rather than feeling like a simple spin-off, it confidently establishes its own identity while preserving the explosive energy, outrageous humor, and relentless pace that have defined the series for years. At its core, the game is an intense 2D action shooter where survival depends on constant movement, quick reflexes, and overwhelming firepower. Every stage throws enormous numbers of enemies at the player, creating battles that rarely slow down. The gameplay embraces old-school arcade design by encouraging aggressive combat instead of cautious tactics. Players are constantly dodging incoming attacks while unleashing streams of bullets, explosives, lasers, and other destructive weapons. The nonstop action creates an addictive rhythm that rewards skilled movement and fast decision-making, making every encounter feel both chaotic and satisfying. One of the game's defining innovations is its Gunstacker system, an inventive mechanic that allows players to combine multiple weapons into a single devastating arsenal. Instead of swapping between firearms individually, weapons can be stacked together so they all fire simultaneously. This opens countless opportunities for experimentation, allowing players to build personalized combinations that suit different combat situations. Whether mixing rapid-fire machine guns with explosive launchers or pairing flamethrowers with shotguns, every new setup feels powerful and entertaining. The system adds a strategic layer beneath the game's frantic action and remains one of the most memorable gameplay features introduced in the Serious Sam franchise. Enemy variety also plays a major role in keeping the experience engaging. Longtime fans will immediately recognize familiar creatures such as the screaming Headless Kamikazes, Gnaars, and heavily armored Biomechanoids, while the XXL edition expands the roster with several original enemies that introduce fresh attack styles. Every level mixes different enemy types together, requiring players to constantly adjust their tactics instead of relying on a single approach. Large-scale boss fights provide exciting highlights throughout the campaign, emphasizing spectacle through oversized enemies, destructive attacks, and explosive finales that capture the larger-than-life personality of the series. The campaign spans eighteen stages divided across three distinct worlds inspired by classic Serious Sam settings, including ancient Egypt, volcanic landscapes, and prehistoric jungles. Although the game is presented from a side-scrolling perspective, the environments successfully recreate the adventurous spirit of the main series. Platforming sections, environmental hazards, hidden secrets, and varied level layouts help prevent the gameplay from becoming repetitive despite the heavy focus on combat. The progression continually introduces new weapons, enemies, and challenges, giving players fresh objectives throughout the journey. Visually, Serious Sam Double D XXL embraces a colorful comic-inspired presentation that perfectly complements its exaggerated action. Explosions, enemy animations, weapon effects, and environmental destruction fill the screen with constant visual excitement. The artistic style does not aim for realism, instead emphasizing exaggerated effects that reinforce the game's lighthearted and over-the-top tone. During the most intense battles, dozens of enemies, projectiles, and explosions compete for attention, creating an intentionally chaotic spectacle that fits the franchise's identity. The audio presentation reinforces the excitement with energetic music, impactful weapon effects, and recognizable enemy sounds that fans of the series will immediately appreciate. Every explosion feels powerful, while the soundtrack maintains the high-energy momentum throughout the campaign. Sam's humorous personality and the game's playful dialogue add charm without interrupting the action, ensuring the experience never takes itself too seriously. The XXL edition significantly improves upon the original release by introducing additional missions, new weapons, extra enemy types, improved balancing, and other gameplay enhancements. These additions make the package feel more polished and provide stronger replay value for both returning players and newcomers. Experimenting with different Gunstacker combinations alone encourages multiple playthroughs, while the higher difficulty settings offer satisfying challenges for players seeking greater mastery. The game is not entirely free from shortcomings. Extended enemy waves can occasionally make certain levels feel repetitive, and the sheer amount of visual effects sometimes makes incoming attacks difficult to track during especially hectic battles. Platforming controls are generally responsive, but a few precision jumps become frustrating when combined with overwhelming enemy pressure. Players expecting the exploration and freedom of the series' first-person entries may also need time to adjust to the more linear side-scrolling structure. Even with these minor issues, Serious Sam Double D XXL stands as one of the franchise's most creative spin-offs. It successfully adapts the signature formula of endless enemies, absurd weaponry, and nonstop action into an entertaining 2D shooter that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original. Its inventive Gunstacker mechanic, generous content, satisfying combat, and unmistakable Serious Sam humor combine to create an experience that remains enjoyable from beginning to end. Fans of classic arcade shooters and longtime followers of the series alike will find plenty to appreciate in this energetic reimagining. Rating: 8/10
What a fun game. Great art, level design and humor. Stays true to the Serious Sam formula in 2D platformer fashion. Gun stacking was a pretty fun mechanic.
