Senatus

Senatus is cool strategy game, you must travel Rome to gather followers to use in your debates, I wished there was a more in depth tutorial, but it's not really a complicated game to understand.

This is a fun little game reminiscent of the card games of the Final Fantasy series. Instead of collecting creature cards, though, you're winning Senators to your cause and enticing them to speak on your behalf on the debate stage. Cards apply minor buffs to you or nerfs to your opponent and can be chained together. In between debates, you take your chances in various locations to acquire cards and buffs for the next debate. The mechanics are simple to understand but by no means an auto-win once you understand the strategy. I love the music, and the pixel art is quite charming. Enjoy! : )

Loved the demo, I was really hyped to try this little gem of a game. The card battles are fun, but the events have the kind of historical spice I appreciate a lot, you can tell that the devs are true romaboos. For this price is a no brainer, hope it gets discovered by some more people and become popular.

How many years of waiting? Do you remember Quo Vadis, the superlative Reiner Knizia game? Reskinned as Zoo Vadis (Ridiculous). Senatus isn't that - However it does focus, not on a faction, but you as an individual, on the Cursus Honorum. Do you remember Republic of Rome? An ex- of mine called it the 'monastic game', due to my pouring hours into it (to the exclusion of all else. or Her). Senatus isn't that - However it does cover all of the same ideas, whilst allowing you to save and come back later. To the satisfaction of all. Do you remember Pax Romana? Not the Anno franchise, but the first real attempt at making a RoR video game. Senatus isn't that - but it is a streamlined version of the same concepts: prepare for the Curiia, by visiting various locations to obtain benefits (The Temple, The Tavern, The Brothel). And so much more accessible. Do you remember Republic, the Revolution? Nothing to do with Rome (set in Novistrana, an imaginary post-Soviet country). Developed by Demis Hassabis (Time's person of the year 2025 was AI. But nine people are named as the architects - Hassabis is one of them). RtR had the most innovative 'debating' mini-game ever seen. Senatus isn't that - However the debating system is a unique, tactical, battlefield, that turns words into (physically) well positioned arguments. Genius. Do you remember all these classic games, and wish that there was a modern (video) equivalent? Sentaus IS that game.

the basic idea of the game was really attractive (deck builder and politics yay), but i found the game way too simple, almost no content and quite repetitive

Quick fun little game. It certainly needs a better tutorial, but the devs have been very quick to fix bugs and are responsive so this has a bright future!
