About
Sector Space is a cozy top-down single player space sandbox with retro graphics. The game takes place in a procedurally generated world with a seamless travel system. Each world represents a single galaxy in the void with hundreds of star systems and points of interest for the player to visit.
Characters pilot their own ship and depending on the chosen character class (profession) may have up to 6 fleet ships. As the character levels up they may select various secondary skills to further specialize and improve their ship. Skills are automatically passed onto your fleet ships but at a reduction proportional to their level. The primary means of upgrading and progressing is through selection of gear and ships of increasing tier level. The game contains hundreds of items which may have modifiers applied enhancing their function.
The character's ship and fleet can be moved between world files allowing you to generate different "galaxies" to explore. Most resources are renewable so typically you only need to play on one world. Some locations are unique and present in all generated galaxy although their position may change.
A world (galaxy) is divided up into a grid with each cell being a "sector". Characters can move from sector to sector continuously or take advantage of jump drives, jump gates, and wormholes to move larger distances. A sector can be an entire asteroid field, star system, nebula etc. There are combat areas and anomalous regions with more challenging enemies and better item drops. The character may be visited by NPC or ambushed in a random encounter while they move through dangerous regions of space. Make use of NPC stations and resources to progress, additionally characters may deploy their own stations and fortify the area with drones to protect against hostile invaders.
The typical game loop consists of levelling and acquiring gear through combat or gathering resources and crafting items which will also grant experience towards levelling up. Players can mine asteroids, refining the ore into pure elements and then craft components which are used in the construction of items and ships. Additional resources may be extracted from planets and colonies. Item's can vary in price by region and fluctuate over time which can make trading between stations a viable source of credits.

This game is frankly awesome, even in its current EA state. The foundation is very, very solid. Some QoL features are missing, such as where to find the next thing or ore to progress and lack of quests (understandable = EA). Yet, the entire galaxy is in real time which is awesome, unlike Star Valor where it is one sector at a time. But for $5, this game is an absolute steal. Just look at my playtime, I only bought it 22 days ago.
Wait for the game to work out some of the bugs... I fell into what to do with the game hole... no idea how to find my way around, and other than mining, the game loop is hard to figure out..
a great answer to the complexity of Starsector without the major factions warring often. Its a good time.
GREAT GAME....HUGE WORLD, NO SLEEP, USE BRAIN
You monster. I have things to do, actual responsibilities! Why did you do this to me? Why don't you just come over to my house and inject game-crack into my eyeballs or something? In seriousness: if the words "Escape Velocity, Override, Nova" and "Endless Sky" mean anything to you, you may want to look into this thing right here.
this one seems mindless, 4 mining quests and no stations selling the mk1 mining laser to complete the last one? i grinded for a ton of currency so it's not that. very little info on what and where. enjoy the $5
I played for 16 minutes and then modded the game to add in my own ship. (technically played more but modded jar doesn't count towards playtime). Game has potential, and I hope to see it keep improving and getting new content. As of currently, there is a lack of tutorials and not many guides on how to startout. If you overcome that, the game loop is decent for what it is. Though it is missing some QoL with inventory and fleet management. For a comparison game, play Endless Sky. If that game doesn't really click, this one might not click either. Due to the early nature of this game, only buy it if you are interested in supporting its continued development. And keep in mind that there will be missing features or features.
Game is terrible. Your ship gets destroyed before you finish reading the in game introduction screen
Criminally underpriced I have to give this a review.. for what is on offer here is unreal at the sub 5 pounds price point. Strong Starsector/EVE vibes with this one. Very cool No tutorials though so be patient while that gets sorted. Will update review later TLDR; Early access hidden gem w/ no tutorials after of the build July 2026
