This is a gem amongst creature collectors. I've played many Pokémon games, rom hacks, SMT, Persona, Digimon World3, even Dragon Quest Monsters, so I've played quite a few games of this genre. Even so, this game managed to stand out with its unique presentation and engaging combat. In a world dominated by LLM generated content, it is very refreshing to see someone designing the creatures literally by hand, which gives this game a silly vibe that communicates very well with its humor, which I love. The creature design is very cute and silly, even the scenary was handcrafted with faces, so there is a lot of effort on that regard, which I really appreciate. I've found that many creature collector games try too much to reproduce Pokémon's creature design, which kinda turns me off, and this game has a different approach that makes it unique. The combat is Pokémon, which is excepted from this kind of games, but the roguelite elements give it a very fresh air. Basically, you do runs where you can caught sculplings up to 4 at a time, get items, upgrades, even increase stats or teach new moves. This prevents the player from always building the same team and force to strategize with whatever the game throws to the player. I'm still far from collecting all sculplings, but it is such a joy trying to guess how it is going to evolve. There is no story, you get to challenge tough trainer until becoming the #1, there is a edgy rival and other cliches, but it works. I know I compared this a lot with Pokémon, but it is kinda of the gold standard, and this game succeeded into differentiating it from so many creature collections inspired by game freak's franchise. If you like creature collectors and roguelikes, you will love this.
I posted the review Connor. Game is a Pokemon rogue-like. Bosses hit hard, but you can hit hard too with luck and knowledge. The flavor text reminds me of Streets of Rogue before that developer got corporatized.
This game is fantastic. mixes Popular Creature Collecting Game We All Know with the roguelike formula in such a fun and creative way. I'm glad I found this and forcibly exposed friends to it! I also love the art style and that everything was handmade by clay! It's a great game and the silly humor adds a certain kind of charm you just don't see that often anymore. My only singular complaint is this game really needs proper controller support. (I was totally not coerced into writing this review)
I love love love love love love this game. Its like if Slay The Spire 2 and pokemon had a baby that was defective and was made out of clay. This game has no bugs that I know of and this game is jsut great.
So I am writing this good review not because I stumbled into Conor's office and he asked me nicely to do it for some cool items nooo not at all. I love this game. It was made with lots of love and pain. Thanks to this game, I met my best bro, Grubby Steve, i fulfilled my dream of meeting a real life dragon and kicking my childhood long nose rival Charles Budler ass with it. They say that Palworld is the pokemon killer but they are so wrong because this game is what will destroy pokemon when it explodes. The pokemon company is probably eating their boots right now while screaming with envy “how did we not come up with bee and four rats stacked on top of one another first!" So yes, the game is worth the price (did i do good conor? sorry if i wort something wrong i have dyslexia. ) Ps: do you think i have a chance with the goth waiter girl? she is totally my type.
They made a really cute game, and I think you'll enjoy it. Right now its simple and kind of a vibe out experience. Not a bad go.
Reworked the review to go into detail, as I didn't see other reviews having done so. It is worth a mention that the game contains cussing and some more "adult" themes, so despite the visuals, I may not suggest the game to the youngest in the family. Has a lot going for it, but various things make me hesitant to recommend it. + Charming + Funny (though humor is on-the-nose a lot, but I like it) + Good price + Devs seem to be working on fixes + Decent amount of depth/builds + You get to pick 1 starter out of 3 every run * Meta-progression, you earn more slots for more team passives to start with as well as unlock mostly stronger items to appear during the run. Beating bosses also upgrades the passive beating them unlocked - Lack of polish. Visual oddities, jank and minor bugs. These aren't show stoppers but they certainly take wind out of the sails - Game's progression involves fighting Top 5 rank bosses, which have unique mechanics that aren't really told of ahead of the time, so you may end up failing a run learning their gimmick the hard way - Balance. Sometimes an enemy has a move that instantly kills my creature, which they can use multiple times, I have beaten the game but I still don't know what that move is or how to counteract it, this has been rare but it happens - Item bloat. As you unlock more passives and items to show up, it becomes increasingly harder to find what you want. Chests on the map have no reroll option (though enemy drops let you reroll them) - RNG. Learned moves are random as are item drops, bosses encountered, regular encounters, hit chance... this can cause frustrating moments at times - Same currency that is used for items during the run is used to unlock permanent things, so at times I end up tanking the run in favor of keeping more cash Game works for the most part, but all the small things stop the experience from becoming something I could recommend easily. Still, I can see people enjoying it.
It's good, simple as that. Also love the clay stuff :)
pretty good
Lovely little game that you can feel and see the developers passion.
