Surprisingly relaxing cardboard sanitation
Thank you to Kekik in the Bag for the curator copy. This is nonetheless an impartial review. Let me start with a confession: I hate cleaning-only games. If there’s no story or puzzles, my brain usually checks out. I made an exception here because Kekik has delivered lovely cozy titles like Raccoon Cocoon: A Cozy Puzzle Game and Hidden Raccoons. So yes, I walked in curious... and maybe a little picky. This review reflects the Early Access version (Build 22220574) as of March 7th, 2026. You play a penguin armed with a pug-shaped jet washer and vacuum, cleaning buildings and objects across 10 levels. Each stage contains about 50 to 100 trash items plus plenty of surfaces begging for a good scrub. Ridiculous concept? Absolutely. Surprisingly entertaining at times? Also yes. Mechanically it’s simple. You switch between two nozzles: one for precise deep cleaning and another for wide surface work. Controls are straightforward with mouse and keyboard, camera sensitivity options and fullscreen support. Achievements follow normal completion, the ambience is calm despite the cleaning gear noises, and there are sound sliders if you want adjustments. The world is fully cardboard, which feels hilariously wrong when you’re spraying water everywhere, but hey, let’s blame the magical pug washer. You can also glide using a little straw hat, which is adorable. There’s even a button that briefly highlights remaining dirt in turquoise if you’re hunting the last spots. Now the caveats: it’s repetitive by design, so this clearly targets players who enjoy zoning out while tidying digital messes or multitasking on another screen. Holding the mouse button constantly can be rough on the wrist, so a click-to-hold option would help a lot. I also ran into a couple of bugs: level 8 reported 100% clean while dirt remained, and level 9’s percentage behaved strangely until one building was completely spotless. Story fans should also know there isn’t one. Its just some occasional short lines from residents here and there. And since it’s still in Early Access, future achievements or changes are always possible. Personally, it didn’t convert me into a cleaning-only-game enthusiast. But if you already enjoy pressure-washing style gameplay loops, the cardboard world, goofy pug-powered washer and cozy vibe might hit the spot. Scrub Dudes (Early Access v1.0) is a cute little powerwashing adventure starring a voxel penguin and his all-in-one cleaning pug. Across ten short levels, you'll do some light platforming, some vacuuming, and some good ol' industrial cleaning to patch up islands crafted from cardboard and fabric.
Gameplay + Details
Controls. Keyboard + Mouse only. Playtime. ~2-3 hours. No missable cheevos. Options + Settings. Standard fare; I recommend turning down SFX or you won't hear the music over the jet.
What Works For Me
✅ Cute animations! Love the idle head scratch and the gliding hat. ✅ The different hand-painted cardboard structures are adorable. ✅ Levels play quickly, and include 1-3 "Build" goals. ✅ Straightforward, simple controls and gameplay.
What Doesn't Work For Me
🟥 First-person camera can trigger motion sickness. 🟥 If you quit mid-level, your progress on that level does not save. 🟥 "Build" sites can be hard to spot.
Final Thoughts + Recommendation
Kekik in the Bag, the two-person indie team behind Raccoon Cocoon, was kind enough to provide a key in exchange for an honest review. I don’t typically play cleaning sims, so I was curious to actually try one. Scrub Dudes is small in scope and repetitive, but everything it sets out to do, it does well. I was so charmed by the puppywasher and whimsical level designs, as well as the silly little notes you uncover. Each level takes maybe 10-15 minutes to complete and there's no over-arching story, so it's easy to kick back and play this in chunks or in one go while listening to a podcast or YouTube. My attention did wander a few times, but all in all, I had fun with this. The devs plan to add a few more levels before releasing it from Early Access, but I think Scrub Dudes in its current state is a great fit for fans of Powerwashing Simulator or repetitive cozy games. A calm, relaxing experience.
Cozy and cute :)
i am gliding more than washing
Es todo muy lindo y relajante, cada nivel toma unos minutos y no se hacen dificiles
little pug and textures are so cool
I was a fan of power washing simulator so when I got to try this game out I really liked it! I liked how you play as a little penguin washing everything and you can even vacuum too ! I like the style of it you clean houses and areas that look like cardboard and you walk around cleaning. I am a fan of cleaning games so this was right up my alley!
If you want a fun little Powerwash Sim alternative for the fraction of the price, this might be for you! The game is pretty to look at and the soundtrack is fantastic (could use 1-2 more songs) It's not as tedious as Powerwash Sim which is GREAT. You don't have to get EVERY LAST little SPEC to finish washing things. A great addition would be the ability to turn down the volume of the SPRAY. It's a bit LOUD compared to the rest of the game. Hard to get cozy with that sound BLASTING in your ear. The rest of the sounds are well balanced. You get 10 levels which isn't a LOT but you should get a couple hours of gameplay out of it!
