SCP: Doki Doki Anomaly

I really like the concept of this game, but there's something about it that I just can't get entirely behind. There's a few spelling mistakes sprinkled throughout, which I mean isn't too big of a deal. I guess my biggest gripes are how same-y the paths are in the end, the puzzle segments being kind of ridiculous, and parts of the game where models clip through things I'm certain they aren't supposed to. Like I said, I enjoy the concept of it, but I just don't think it's entirely worth getting. Especially with the state that it is in.

[h1]Not very coherent game[/h1] I bought this game because it was one of the best games from Brackeys jam, where it started. It was very well made for a jam: [list] [*]Eerie atmosphere [*]Outstanding music (even by commercial game standards) and sounds [/list] although at the time lacked “coherency”, which I hoped would be fixed for the full release. Unfortunately, it was not: [list] [*]Your character talks what he sees, but a different image/scene is shown [*]Said scene rarely changes to reflect events [*]No voiceovers [*]No indication of who says which text lines: makes it very confusing since not only there is no audio speech, no characters are ever shown (so you can’t see their mouths) [*]The premise (that eyeglasses are a special thing, in addition to special prisoners) is not obvious and could have been conveyed better [*]This might be me (since I’m not a fan of visual novels), but it seemed like too much clicking-through, with choices, which are quite trivial [*]Esc shouldn’t exit without confirmation, or should at least auto-save [/list] Music and sounds are still outstanding though! I played 70 minutes total, which includes the time trying to get all achievements (although, I failed, I guess, you have to do a high score in the only mini-game, otherwise, no idea what could lead to the achievements).

Interesting is a good word for this dating sim. This is a super simple horror dating sim. The few endings (death and survival) as well as "dating" all 3 "girls" are pretty easy to figure out. The story is interesting, even though it's probably not the best SCP-inspired game out there (I'm not a true fan of SCP stuff so I don't know how this will sit with SCP fans). I did enjoy that their made up SCP was 8008, definitely got a good laugh out of me! I mainly was interested by this game because I'm a big fan of Doki Doki Literature Club and this game definitely reminds me of DDLC. The game is labeled as a dating sim and there are some light aspects of one but it's less of a dating sim than I was expecting (not a big complaint as I was more interested in the horror tag than dating sim). I did enjoy the match puzzle minigame and I liked that it got weird later in the game. It does seem like it doesn't really matter if you are able to quickly earn points as SCP-173's face pops up on the screen and allows you to bypass the puzzle. I didn't experience any issues/bugs while playing the game. However, the game doesn't have an in-game volume control or window option (though pressing alt+enter DOES work for this game, but the window is still pretty much full screen on my laptop. The game does need a better skip feature beyond holding down the space bar. I didn't see that many typos, but did notice things like "presonnel" instead of "personnel". Overall, I did enjoy this horror dating sim game. It is a really short game. I'm not sure if the $5.99 price tag is too much for what you're really getting, but at the same time, it's definitely not that much of an asking price. I'd probably recommend getting it on sale. If you're a fan of short horror VN/dating sims, then I'd say try this game out.

My .5 hours represents a 100% of the game (save some inconsequential choices or choices that lead to a bad end). It's quite a short game. Despite this, I'd say it's charming and worth the $3.59 I spent on it (I got it on sale).There is also simple puzzle-style minigame that requires you to get a minimum number of points not to die. I did not fail it. It does have some interesting twists as you progress though that make it more difficult. If you want to smooch some SCPs, I would recommend the at the price I got it for. If you don't care about monster girls or SCPs, you probably won't get too much out of this game. If you want a longer visual novel style game about smooching monster girls, I'd recommend Sucker for Love
