*Quick storymode game *Nice graphic style *Pay close attention to the evidence you find as you will need it for the end game *Overall I'd recommend
Interesting game and concept, the story was good and the graphics were okay and fitting too. I just failed the questioning at the end because I misread questions and didn't remember the exact name of the murderer. Worth playing if you got about half and hour to spare and want to try a new game for free
Can anyone really escape their past?...maybe if Liberty Caps were in the equation!! Scorch is a minimalist short free to play that has some beautifully rendered scenic touches from falling Autumn leaves that, as the day progresses into evening, transform into firefly like white lights floating around which compliments the Autumn forest setting of oranges, browns and subtle reds. There is a choice box at the startup of the game that allows you to choose the graphics quality & the screen resolution which, naturally, impacts the graphical appearance of the game. The BGM fits in with this theme thanks to its relaxing sounds which include birds, the crunching of the forest undergrowth as you walk and the added touch of wind blowing in the evening when you are in the Watchtower. Again, the menu has an option to lower the volume by type that include Master, Voice and/or Effects. There is no Save or Autosave option during the game though it can be completed within 30 minutes so if you begin this game have the intentions to complete it in one sitting The environment is coded so you cannot wander too far on the left or right side of the wooded areas as the Main protagonist - Detective Gary Price - will voice of not wanting to get lost in the woods! Talking of the voice acting this was disappointing for me as it was essentially for the Main protagonist, playing the role of the Detective, and his 'Chief' who assigns the Detective to solve this murder mystery within a day to make up for his recent shortfalls. There seemed a distinct lack of emotional interest in the voice acting even when the script gave the idea that the 'Chief' was angry at Detective Gary Price the tone of the voice acting was monotonous which, for me, lessened the immersion into the characters & the story. This maintains that quality (or lack!) of voice acting all the way through the game leaving it uninteresting to listen to and coming across as very obvious script reading rather than character acting. One positive was that there is an option for subtitles which i felt was considerate towards hard of hearing/deaf players or non-native speakers as an alternative to the voice acting The plot itself is of a death by arson of a forest Ranger named Mike Hill and it is Detective Gary Price's opportunity to redeem himself by solving this murder mystery ASAP! Movement is by [WASD] with Mouse left click for Interacting with items & [TAB] for viewing Inventory. There will be times in the game where the 'Chief' will call you which tells you to answer with [G] while the other remaining key is [Enter] which will prompt you during the game but there is a menu option to keybind. The inventory items often group together so when viewing you will need to drag the items around to access other items underneath. After collecting all evidence, the 'Chief' will contact you saying to call when you're ready to solve the case though you only get 1 opportunity to solve it This will involve answering 5 questions and placing inventory items into 3 circles on the right side & clicking the checkbox to confirm. I seemed to have a brief issue with this until it became clear that when you're selecting the items they have to show as white background with the item icon to be successfully placed then the checkbox will work as a choice. If it stays the regular background (and may even give an item description of the clue) it will not be selected and you won't be able to activate the checkbox. Overall, it is a Free to Play short murder mystery with a few 'red herrings' where if the case is incorrectly solved it leads to replays BUT I found it difficult to get immersed into Scorch because of the voice acting and the one directional gameplay that gave minimal character choices for solving the case. For players who enjoy a coffee break timeout with this genre it will offer enough to satisfy but it wasn't for me. ~~~Liked what you see? It's definitely an interesting game; kind of short but the music, the gloomy atmosphere and the story are pretty good.
Not all that much of a scorcher...just lukewarm.
Scorch is a walking simulator where you act as a detective to figure out what happened after a murder took place. Basically, you walk around and pick up evidence and point the finger...but it doesn't matter since the game reveals the answer regardless when you fill in the blanks. There's an obvious choice and a red herring in the story. It's nice to see what this game has to offer as what appears to be a school project, but the inclusion of the red herring with evidence to point that way feels off...this is included in the fact that the game has only one ending that reveals it all for you. In the end, this game ends up feeling pretty typical and coming off as a test project for a class...but this is just an assumption based on perspective. The visuals are okay and the voice work is unimpressive and uninspired. At least it's bug free, so the game can be completed without being broken. Aside from that, there are several things that are just there to distract you...not even in a world-building way. Everything in this title is very simplistic and you probably won't be back after 1 or 2 playthroughs. So, would I recommend Scorch? Only if you have nothing better to do. The game is about 30 minutes long (from my experience, but about 10 or so minutes long if you want to find everything AND get the right answer. Without a guide, I still got a 2/5, which was apparently a pass...so I guess overall, a similar score is in order to reflect my experience. 5/10 Decent, but not great...Not hot, not cold...just lukewarm.

Not bad. Nice whodunnit with free exploration, nice graphics and sound, a degree of immersion and an interesting story. The only problem I had was the evidence-linking part. For 2-3 of the questions it seemed that there were multiple items that could satisfy the criteria. Hard to tell which ones were supposed to be the right answers. I played it twice more just to see if I could link it better. Despite knowing what happened, I could only get up to 3/5 (and no feedback on which quetsions I got wrong). Still, it's nice and well worth the few minutes it takes to play through. Quality is quite good for a free game.
Sırf atmosferi için oynadım, bidaha oynarım o kadar mükemmel ki.
I wish steam had a "neutral" option for reviews. I didn't like it, but for a free game, I didn't necessarily dislike it either. The soundtrack is good, the graphics are beautiful, the voice acting is just bearable. The story was just average, to me it seemed too cliche' and very lacklustre. In a game like this, and a detective game in general, writing is really important for world building as there is little else to go by - the writing here lacked, I didn't understand why Gonzales was being so aggressive, the motives of the murderer didn't seem convincing. I understand there is only so much you can cram in a 30 minute game, but still. The questioning at the end was very broad, even if you find all the evidence you only get given a line of info about each, making it almost impossible to get all the questions right on a first playthrough, or even second. The controls irked me a bit too - they're not very intuitive. There is a menu where you can alter the keybinds, but it doesn't work. I had no idea how to get up the evidence inventory or the phone, so I changed whatever the default was and bound it to another key. Surprise surprise, the new key didn't work. It's not a terrible game, but there is small things that could be improved to make it better.
