About
We're still waiting for Valve to officially verify Scarlet Deer Inn, but we designed the game to work well on it.
ABOUT
Scarlet Deer Inn is an embroidered dark medieval folk tale. While life in a seemingly ordinary village is all about simple chores and idle gossip, sinister secrets hide below.

Beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and traditional animations crafted from physically embroidered frames.
A world filled with colourful characters.
Hidden shortcuts in the dark that make each playthrough easier.
Folk music inspired by the Middle Ages and performed on traditional instruments.
THE STORY
Elise is a mother of two. She is not exactly extraordinary, and there are no heroic epics written about her.
Her circumstances will force her to explore unusual places and face dark, terrifying situations.
THE TEAM
Attu Games is a husband-and-wife team from the Czech Republic. During the development of Scarlet Deer Inn, their duo expanded into a trio with the birth of their baby, bringing a whole new level of chaos to the process.

Wow. The game starts slow and may lead you to believe it is another fairy tale for kids. The reality is quite different. It is a fairy tale, but of the old kind that borders on horror. The slow start from gameplay perspective leads to several hectic passages requiring fast reactions and there is even a boss fight which is... not easy. The unique graphics accompanied by great medieval-folk music works´flawlessly. There are some rough edges like some check points not registering properly but that is to be expected with an indie game just released. Full disclosure: I received a review code, I played the game, I had a great time and cannot wait to buy the soundtrack on vinyl The result is captivating.
I'll be honest the only reason that i'm leaning towards the positive side for Scarlet deer inn is because of the insanely unique art style. What this two person dev team has achieved here is nothing short of commendable from a creative point of view as well as the amount of work it must've taken. Their efforts did not go unnoticed as the embroided frame by frame animation for the characters looked very fluid and paired well with the smooth controls. This unique art style looks stunning and made the game feel memorable. It's the primary reason i picked the game up along with the pretty painted backgrounds. Musically the game is also rather strong but unfortunately music is rather rare because most often you won't hear any. You will hear nice ambient SFX though, especially in the village which made the place feel very lively. It's when exploring said village and talking to all the npc's that the game was at its most fun imo but unfortunately that is a little under half of the runtime. The other half is spent in an absolutely dreadfull, bland and boring cave section that drags on and on. In said caves you will be mostly platforming, which is mostly fine except for the drawn-out chase sections that send you back to the start if you fail a jump or run into spikes. You'll also fight some critters here which was really cumbersome as the combat feels really stiff. There's also a final boss which was equally cumbersome and a bit of a dissapointing end to the game. Speaking of dissapointing endings i can't say the narrative left me particularly satisfied. The game ends really abruptly and open ended which rubbed me the wrong way but at least it was engaging up till that point. On a technical level the game ran well but it felt a bit buggy sometimes with repeating dialogues. Loading times were also rather lenghty even on SSD. For its VERY short runtime and numerous issues i won't say this game is worth it at full price, wait for a serious discount.

Really want to like this game, and at first I was into it. Talking to the villagers, learning about the characters. Then your dropped into the dungeon, and it barely has anything to do with the story. When I got back out, I think I went back I by accident. When I got back out Again! I was handed a fetch Quest that fractured into multiple fetch quests! These fetch quests didn't have much to them and I felt like I was following a script completing them. I found a key, guessed the place I needed it. But that place told me I needed the key! Had to go back and get the key again. Kinda the strain that broke the camel's back for me
charming little game, art style, music, the grim fairy tale, all of this was great, gameplay is pretty basic. 8/10 Gooses
It's unfortunate to say, but the gameplay needed at least half as much attention as the embroidered character sprites, gorgeously painted environments, and excellent folk music. If the controls felt more in line with other cinematic platformers, all the trial and error moments wouldn't feel so cheap. The dark mazelike level design doesn't do it any favors either. Though to be fair, I actually enjoyed how somewhat aimless the experience of finding my way through the caves was. Combat is also barebones yet scarce, just enough to spice up the adventure. The contrast between the creepy spelunking and the "quaint" medieval village life is still unique enough for me to recommend, as the mediocre platforming only moderately annoyed me. Your mileage may vary. I think the story could've expressed greater impact from additional character animations, or full blown illustrations for key scenes, but I didn't mind the modesty. For being the work of a married couple, the effort is admirable, and I hope they keep getting better and better.
Benn watching this one for a little while. Love the design and music, so far the story has me interested, switches quickly from how cute to I'm kind of creeped out. Died a few times to something i will probably hopefully laugh at later and needed a break but recommend so far.
Scarlet Deer Inn is a stunning adventure with a truly unique hand-embroidered art style. The soundtrack creates an immersive atmosphere that shines during intense chase sequences. Its rich, emotional story kept me invested as I searched for my missing children through a dangerous world. Beautifully crafted from start to finish, this is an unforgettable experience I highly recommend. This is a great game to play on stream as well! My community loved watching this one!
