Scarlet Deer Inn

Po hraní dema jsem úplně netušil, jakým směrem se hra vydá. Měl jsem dostat tušení, že půjde o plošinovku (aneb kupování hry na slepo). S hrou mám takový love-hate relationship a upřímně jsem čekal trochu více příběhu. Hra má příjemnou grafiku, tematickou hudbu a přijatelné dialogy. Bohužel v některých částech pokulhává, a to především v oblasti "quality of life“. Uvítal bych možnost mít na obrazovce legendu ovládání a také mapu nebo alespoň plánek vesnice. Level design je podle mě adekvátní, ale některá místa působí na první pohled zmatečně. A rozhodně by se hodila možnost dát pause hry. Další výtkou je poslední souboj, který končí poměrně neuspokojivě. Po pár pokusech zjistíte, že se jeho část dá tak trochu ošmelit, a samotný výsledek souboje pro mě nebyl odměnou, jakou bych od hry očekával. Nicméně i přes tyto menší nedostatky a za mě trochu nepoměr ceny k množství gameplaye můžu s klidnou hlavou hře dát doporučení. To, kde hra své nedostatky podle mě zase nahrazuje, je atmosféra a celkově poměrně klidné tempo hraní. Vezmete ovladač do ruky, nohy nahoru a prostě hrajete. Není potřeba si pamatovat 100+1 věcí, nic není časově omezené a nemáte před sebou 50 různých úkolů, u kterých nevíte, do čeho se pustit jako první. Jedna věc, jeden cíl a pohoda.

It’s not yet verified, but it played great on the steam deck! The game is visually stunning and I recommend it for that reason alone; the embroidery animation is really appealing and fun, I love that the different characters got different textile designs for their speech boxes. The music was great too. The story was engaging and actually darker than I expected, which was kind of delightful. I did find some of the mechanics a little frustrating; in particular the hitboxes didn’t always seem to match well with what was actually visible. This was largely a mild annoyance (having to stand in *exactly* the right spot to light the torch), but did make combat really frustrating; especially in the boss battle since you had to replay the entire sequence before the fight actually starts every time you die. And despite it’s short run time, I did find gameplay a bit repetitive (like [spoiler] finding the toys was intriguing at first, but there were just so many and finding subsequent ones didn’t add anything new to my experience [/spoiler]). I didn’t mind the ending ([spoiler] an open ended ending for something like a folk tale can work really well[/spoiler]), but it did feel a bit unfinished to me; I feel like there were a lot of breadcrumbs dropped that didn’t lead anywhere/get picked up later. I was so intrigued by the lore and wish it had been explored a bit more; I found myself craving more of the story elements and weaving in more of that throughout might have helped the gameplay feel less repetitive. TL;DR — it’s a fun little romp and the beautiful design makes up for the minor annoyances in gameplay.

If you're a fan of puzzle and platform or medieval folklore I would definitley recommend this game. Its a simple but nonetheless interesting story, you aren't playing as some epic hero, you're just a peasant. More then that I won't say, but the game is also very beautiful, has interesting music and was overall a fun experience. I would say this game is really worth your time.

I see a lot of people on here saying that the short play time doesn't justify the price. What a bunch of lame-os. If this gave was 5 minutes I'd still pay $20. I think some of us forget that videogames are a medium and some devs make out of love, not competition. I've also seen many comments say that the story doesn't feel finished. The way the story ends is haunting. It wraps up perfectly imo. Elise has to continue with the chilling realization that [spoiler] at any moment her children could be taken from her. [/spoiler] The other slug boy is also [spoiler] nowhere to be found [/spoiler] implying that the Beekeeper [spoiler] already sacrificed him to the devil woman [/spoiler]. There's lots of mystery surrounding who the main antagonist is at the end, but I think the story leaves breadcrumbs along the way to reveal her true identity as [spoiler] the sister that was cut up by the the Old Hag and her sister. [/spoiler] All in all, I loved the game. At some point I'll be replaying because I know I missed some things and it's simply a charming game to play. Beautifully crafted embroidery but that's not the main reason why i played and beat this game, it's also because of the story. I love it but i wished there was more. Hopefully there is more games like these in the future or a sequel would be nice
