this still looks really cute and seems worth playing since its an old style platformer.. however i love old school platformers and cant even make it past the tutorial here. it was hard for me to find control mapping for keyboards, and even once i did, it still feels like theres something not right about how it works? the tricky jumping i can deal with, since thats a common platformer-ness, but something is wrong with "throw orb." i cant even seem to figure out how to get the orb to land and spawn a clone in the right spot. i only played very shortly because it got so frustrating that the controls or maybe character movement? were so bad. anyway, ill check back later when more work has been put into this, when i can actually play through the tutorial
Alright, so this is coming from somebody who doesn't care for collectathons or puzzle platformers, but I loved this game. It's so fun and challenging at parts and all around a great experience if you have a couple hours to spare. I'd definitely recommend giving this game a try. It has got incredible art style, cute characters, fun story and voice acting, great references, and challenging puzzles/platforming. I could definitely see myself pumping hours into this game just to get all the achievements because of how fun it is to play.

So I beat the game, heres my review: Its a short game, where there is a achivement to beat the game within 45 minutes with all coins collected. The good: Its fun, comical, toony and a challenge to beat. I loved it. The bad: I understand its early access but hoo boy the bugs... First of all, it displays only xbox controlls, so if you are playing on mouse and keyboard, the controlls second page is your best friend. The UI isnt scaled correctly nor is there any graphical settings to adjust, so most of the UI was offscreen (mainly the crystal count and graphic). Most NPCs that you dont talk to you can walk right though. I had multiple instances where I got stuck in the ground from the teleporting mechanic. There is one time I had to abuse the teleporting mechanic just to be able to progress since the distance gap was impossible otherwise. I was litterally stuck at this area for a good 30~ minutes until I figured id just abuse it to move on, I assure you I tried looking around to make sure I didnt overlook anything. If you get easily frustrated with the above, then I reccomend you hold back, since there are a few frustrating areas. If you dont mind and dont think you could get frustrated with this and timed puzzles, then go ahead. I dont know if that one 45 minute speedrun achivement is possible right now with what the game state is in currently.

As it stands there are a plenty of positives I can think of for this game. It's very charming from time to time, and the world feels bright, complex, and open (for what little world there is). Scamp as the main protagonist is very snarky and care-free, which can be a grating perk if not handled right. However, there is enough respite time between each time Scamp talks to not get annoyed by him, however there will be a bug where Scamp and the mystical ball orb we have to rescue (they never gave him a name?) won't stop talking to each other in the overworld with the exact same lines. Visually this game is great, it's colourful and full of Spyro charm. Unfortunately the world feels static and dry, as there is almost nothing in the world you can interact with. Sure if you get close to a couple of items they may make noises, but only two objects in the entire world move with your presence (the onions for a mission and the copy-pasted chests push you away every time you get close). Every person feels the same in this world, too, except the store owner, but that's only because he has a different voice and a different colour (besides that he's legit shaped the same as everyone else.) There is a massive lack of sounds from things that would typically have sounds like dying, falling to the floor at high heights, throwing teleport orbs, etc, which makes the world feel more empty than necessary. All the other sounds seem like they came from some free-sample bank and unfortunately do not sound very good such as the oinions and the flopping fish, but the voice acting, for what little there was, was done very well. At the very least the miner guys in the hat-world have nice asses. Mechnically this game falls apart, and is the reason I'm giving this a poor review. The tutorial is built for a controller even though this is a PC game, most people are going to be using a keyboard, so I had to check the splash screen for the controls every time I was told to "press x" or "press right trigger". As for explaining the game's movement options, this is even worse. I went through most of my playthrough not knowing what the hell the flutter ability does until I got to the ring mission that forces you to know it gives you another jump after fluttering. Problem is this was never explained in the tutorial so I had to search high and low on the internet to figure this out. The final boss, I swear, is not even finishable. There is a section where you have to ride a "fire" line, to best explain it, and then jump from different holes. This has been done before, except at the final boss you need to use the triple jump from the flutter to make the first hole, which does not replenish may I say, and there are 4 of these large gaps to make, and if you don't implement this flutter perfectly your momentum stops completely. When I say impossible I mean these jumps are not achievable without using the flutter ability, problem is you don't get this back on the "fire rail" after the first time using it, making the last gap impossible to reach. There are also a plenty of glitches in this game. If you throw the teleport ball at just the wrong spot you'll teleport right into a wall and never escape, forcing a shut down (which is stupid that the game does not have the option to go back to main menu, instead close the game completely once in). I'd have the seldom case of textures not loading in either, especially at the main door when placing the crystals on there. The mushrooms themselves also tend to not allow jumps if you land on it, and sometimes would launch you straight downwards into the nearby water instead. Finally, at the final boss, if you fail the first jump, you will keep falling infinitely, which forces you to shut the game down completely (as I said before). This is unfortunate, there is obvious effort in this game, and it's even free to top things off, but if I can't even finish the game then it seriously needs some tweeking to the movement mechanics, allow for a MUCH better tutorial, allow for options for keyboard users, and finally patch out the numerous clipping and visual glitches. At the current moment it is nothing more than a glitchy mess that causes frustration whenever you fight against the mechanics of the game. If the world is fleshed out more and the bugs are patched out I'll give this game a second chance, as for now I wouldn't recommend this even with the free price tag.
Fun one.
Gave me a wonderful sense of nostalgia to back when i would play banjo kazooie and super mario 64. good game, wonderful music. I have 2 complaints: sometimes it just wouldnt let me teleport to my clone and the final boss was, in my opinion, boring. i would love to see either a sequel or an update to add more to this game. all in all, a wonderful use of an hour and a half.
Well I'll be honest it needs a lot of improvements. Here is a small list. 1.)Collision issues on some of the platforms. 2.)Character feels to "floaty" needs a shorter air time while jumping, which is a very common issue for modern platformers. 3.)Scamp is in dire need of an ability to aim while tossing his orb, this is important due to the fact this is a key gamplay mechanic. 4.)Story needs more direction, it felt like I was waliking around only guessing at what I was supposed to do./"just happen to stumble into the right area" syndrome a lot of games made by small developers seem to suffer from. 5.)"Spoiler" The switch in the main hub world of the game, How are players supposed to know to look for that? why would you not display a cutscene showing me and telling me that I need to get to that lever to progress. 6.)Give the players a portal to look for when making level entrances, the whole floating hat thing is confusing, how was i even supposed to know that, that was a level entrance? 7.)Give players a real reason to want to collect coins, make shops with hats, skins, tools/power ups, etc. 8.)In the first (presumably) pocket dimension/ the mines. make the world more alive. make it make sense contextually. why are these miners here? what do they do? what is this place? 9.)What is the name of the homeworld? what is the name of any of the levels? 10.)Fix the orbs please, they really like to clip into ledges and cause you to get stuck. The list goes on for a little while longer but ill spare you. The game has good potential, and can really be great. if this is a full pledge project I would love to see it grow.
