In theory, Savor Hour is a short psychological horror game featuring physics-based cooking, Thai cuisine, hand-drawn art, and a snowy owl kitchen companion. It sounds right up my alley, so I was ecstatic when solo dev Sunfisch provided a review key to Indie Gems. In reality, this needed a lot more playtesting before release. As of May 15, 2026, I've attempted to play twice and have twice been unable to serve the first customer. Here's the thing: You need to click to "E" to interact with characters, but it's not clear when the conversation continues or ends; and sometimes, you have to click "C" to keep it moving, but it's not clear when you should or what your response even does. Because this is so clunky and unclear, it's easy to miss the owl's cooking tutorial. And without the tutorial, cooking is a mystery. You can bang around the kitchen like my cat at 3AM, but you won't figure out how to make rice or a complete dish. Honestly, even after I finally found the tutorial (in my second run), cooking was still unintuitive; it took a fair amount of trial and error to correctly make the first customer's requested dish. Which I can't serve to her anyway. The game continuously prompts me to "interact to take order," no matter how many times I interact with her or the order above her head. I've experienced every dialogue option she has to offer, placed the food on her table, shoved the food through her, tossed it at the order, and still. I think she may be stuck in an endless loop of broken call/respond, which is frankly scarier than any horror story. There's enough potential here that if the dev tackles the bugs, I'd be happy to try again and revise this review accordingly. For now, though, I can't recommend this. it's pretty strange game. I loved it and i had a lot of fun breaking out of bounds, looking at the environments and exploring stuff with "sequence breaks", felt very liminal and special to me, and i love physics in games and being able to throw everything around for no reason was fun i dont think the horror element of this game adds anything to it though, i think it would work just as well if not better with more subtle horror elements, certainly without jumpscare style bits. Just bizarre town, bizarre atmosphere and stuff would work maybe better. Cooking was unfortunately very confusing and certainly not the best part of the game, but i managed to get through it anyway. character models for main two friends are wonderful though, Archi is beautiful, good
It's pretty buggy right now and i have no idea what to do. I can't pick up anything without knocking over everything else and can't figure out how to get things from landing upside down. They really need to fix the voice commands and add more direction. I'll update my review when they do.
