still better than anthem
**CONTAINS SPOILERS** Tell you what, for a one man band indie developer this game is actually quite fun! It is worth the £5 odd to spend 2-3 hours with jump scares, demons, puzzles, finding stuff. GFX i was hitting appx 240+ in story / films part but my antiquated nvidia struggled with the flames dropping to appx 20-30 especially when loads of firey beasts came after me I dont play indy games for the Gfx i play for content! so the quality of the gfx really doesn't bother me, in all, they looked half decent Only a couple of small issues for me, but maybe they are subjective: Mouse sensitivity on the first part of the game was a bit low, there was no option in the main menu, BUT this can be changed during game play (I was informed) Maybe on the options screen, where the "back" button and pentagram is, make it stand out a little more for aesthetics, like maybe some flames around the pentagram or something and have it make a button pressed sound, so you know its been clicked. I broke the game at one point where there's a timed door in the mansion in the North, had to restart that part of the game. There's a door upstairs which is supposed to slam behind you on entry, I was stealthing round, and slowly approached and the door slammed in my face! Good jump scare, but I broke it! (sorry) The tasks for finding clothes was not really explained, and seemed a bit random. It was explained to me that you had to disguise as a cultist. Perhaps (tab) quest list should reflect this? I liked the way the book worked, and it served a purpose. Your objectives were clearly stated on the right, and any loot to obtain on the left, when completed it was scored through. simple and effective I found the notes on the door story line to be a little flawed. The girl and mum had been captured and blindfolded. but if this was the case? how did they write the notes? Objects for the Summoning pentagram: Was trying to distinguish what the items were, most were obvious, Ram skull, Doll, Book, but the red vial? blood perhaps? There wasn't a log (tab) to name these items, but there was a handy note near the summoning point to help. The objects were easy enough to find, but the vial/red thing had me stumped for a while Loved the jump scares. Appropriate, got me a couple of times, and I don't jump easy! Nice touch with the blood around the screen when damaged, and the heartbeat for one hit left, although the blood sometimes was a little bit overbearing depending on where you were, I found the flames / fire areas a little hard to see End boss was perfect, although the pink explosions were kind of not very "hell like" The health bar was just large enough for "oh no WHAT!" but easy enough to down Loved the different waves of enemies. liked the map having dead ends, if you didn't pay attention, you got hit. lots. The boss music was awesome, but I am biased, cause I love my metal - did you record this yourself?! Twist in the story line. loved it (no spoilers here) 2 different endings too! Thomas, good job. Definitely worth the purchase, looking forward to more content / updates or maybe Saving Grace 2 ?
This is... interesting. It definitely has a fair balance between pros and cons and it's one of those games I wish I could review as a "middle" or "neutral" review. Saving Grace is a different take on horror than I normally find. It has an unique way of telling the story and does a pretty good job at giving you a weird, uncanny atmosphere for a horror game. It's far from perfect, but that doesn't mean it's not worth playing.
Pros

As mentioned before, the progression and story kept me entertained and engaged throughout the whole thing. This is great for immersion, and found this story to be a bit different from other horrors I've played.
There are some pretty well done scares throughout the game, anywhere from the typical jumpscares to just outright making you feel disturbed; I definitely had goosebumps throughout a couple scenes.
The music, while limited selection, is very fitting and helped me get into the game world more.

Cons

There was one time towards the beginning where I wondered around for a solid 20 minutes with no progression. This was, as you might assume, not fun and rather boring. The game could definitely do with some pointers or some clarity in some parts.
The actual gunplay doesn't really feel too polished- and- while that's not the main focus of the game, there are some parts of the game that focus entirely around the gunplay. Almost felt like a drag sometimes.
As other reviews have stated, the games framerate isn't always stable.
By the by, the game has a film grain option, which I highly suggest you play with that on. Makes it feel better in my opinion. ALL THAT SAID THOUGH, if you're itching for a weird take on the horror genre, and/or you're looking to support the indie scene, you should- at the very least- consider giving Saving Grace a whirl.
It's an extremely well built horror environment, perhaps to a point of being slightly overwhelming soundscape-wise for my liking - but then I don't mesh well with horror generally, so I would say that's largely a personal foible. If you like horror games, this'll suit you immensely - hence why I write this review as 'recommended' To note, I suffered a bit of stuttering and/or frame drops around water environments, which did impact my experience - which being on the Unity engine and running on a 2060RTX, Ryzen 5-3600, with 32 gig RAM, should not be the case, and is the primary reason I put the game down, rather than anything which is designed into the game. I received this game free courtesy of E1M1 magazine, and I honestly would not have looked at this game of my own volition, and I honestly will say that it is not the game for me generally speaking, although as stated before if you do like horror I can certainly see the appeal to those of you who do.
Very nice and engaging game. I personally had a lot of slapstick situations and fun goofs with it. Really love the amount of effort and love that was poured into this whole thing. The scares are spoopy, the adrenaline is pumping, vewy noice! 👌
A wake up call for your senses - this game was very engaging to play. The sound effects and atmosphere were on point for the type of story being told. It's the perfect kind of interactive story, with a touch of 'choose your own adventure'. It has some wonderfully creepy moments that made my heart skip and my skin crawl. A+ to the developer!
Good game, lasts about an hour or so. Few lagging issues but they seem to resolve themselves over time. YouTuber: Fellowplayer - https://youtu.be/Ezlme-OF-Kw
