GAMEPLAY:
The game will take place in a top-down format. There will be a base that the player can build and upgrade. The base will be essential to the story and tied to upgrading the player's skills, gear, and stats. The player will control one person but can team up with several AI-controlled teammates to tackle harder missions. Traveling in the world will be done via a map (think of Fallout 1 and 2). The player can explore the map and find locations and towns to trade and get missions from. Controls will include mouse and keyboard (later will add controller support). The player will also have the ability to unlock different powers for his exo-suit EX: stealth, mass fear, and sand-related powers (sand/fireball, sand wall, sand trap, etc.). The player will also be able to breed llamas to ride (and possibly race them) and eventually unlock cars to travel further into the Alaskan wasteland. Traveling is restricted to the amount of water the player carries. You'll be able to upgrade the amount of water carried and the travel speed to allow the player to explore further from their base. Beware, though, the further you go out, the more dangerous it becomes. Player death will not be perma-death, although as a game designer, I do believe in some sort of punishment for death. The idea of loss makes the game more exciting and fun.
STORY:
999 years following the events of The UWN Superfluous' mission to save the earth, the pieces of the asteroid in which the fabled ship was destroyed crashed into Earth, causing massive destruction and loss of life. Many years later, the remainder of humanity clings to life in the dry arid lands once known as Alaska. Radiation has caused mutations and mass extinctions. The large bipedal rhinos known as the Karkadann and the frog-like carnivore known as the Anura are both products of this mass mutation. A very tenuous peace between the three races is kept in check only by the limited resources each side controls. Humans have most of the knowledge to build and maintain the tools and machines to help extract water and energy. The Karkadann protect the only large known source of water and use it to produce the large quantities of vegetables their size requires (they are herbivores). The Anura have monopolized the salvage market; if you need anything, ask an Anura. Being amphibious, they can dive into the toxic oceans and bring back material and technology once thought lost.
More mysteries unravel as the land is plagued by a new threat. The dead are rising and seem to be controlled by the once recluse Inks (ink-like creatures that take the form of humans and wear bones for decoration). Why have the Inks turned aggressive? Will the three tribes band together to face a new threat or slowly be swallowed by it because they can't trust each other? Is llama racing really in the game?
AI USE:
The only AI-generated content used is the sepia-toned art story cards. All other assets are created by humans (mostly me). I have limited art skills and will replace them if/when I make enough money to cover the cost. Trust me, you'd rather AI art than my art :)

This is a charming little game with a quirky story, you run around base building, surviving and following the commands of a computer that takes you from being a loser nobody to a somebody. oh also you start out with a pet dog, that you can pat. 10/10
Sand: A superfluous game (herefore shortened to Sand) is a game that scratches a couple of itches for me, I like colony sims and management games and this game is like an extremely effective backscratcher. Sand is also a game that does several things quite well, not just scratching my itches. There's also a story and side quests attached! Even with a handful of typos thrown in, the humour in the quest writing really shines through and makes you look forward to the conclusion of even the most blunt and lame fetch quests. Combat took me a second to figure out, during combat you WILL NOT SURVIVE if you don't learn how to block attacks from raiders or even smaller animals like roaches, crabs and snakes. The punishment for being too greedy while out exploring the desert is severe and will make you cry when you die after finding a big haul. What I would call mid-game is filled with plenty to do, this is where you transition from relying on exploration for your materials and start automating your base's output with a somewhat extensive power system with batteries, switches, programmable volt meters and signal inverters. There's plenty of numbers to go up, and plenty of dopamine to go with it if you're that kind of person. Late game? I actually haven't reached anything close to what this would be, I wouldn't say I'm stuck on a story quest that I'm not even sure can be completed at this point in the game's development. Overall it's a neat little game that shows a lot of promise. It can be a bit grindy at the start but you'll be making millions in no time from trading. It's a little light on stuff to do right now and it doesn't look very pretty but you're missing out if you don't at least give the demo a go.. If you enjoy games like Factorio, Rimworld and a sprinkle of uhhh classic Fallout I guess? This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
a colony management game where you are a colonist, set in a post apocalyptic futue. your working for a defunct satellite that crashed into someones house and grants you research based on what it observes you do. it has a drone follow you around to watch you. the top down perspective is nice because if there is a problem you can just handle it and the colonist AI isnt too bad. controls are OK and there isnt much to complain about for what is there. the problem is the game is a little barebones at the moment and 8 hours is enough to complete most of the structured game experience. if i understand how the maps work as well nothing is procedurally genereated. every map is handmade and selected randomly. unfortunately there just arent alot of them. the update cycle has been quite slow as well. the studio that makes this is a sole person however so im not certain what else might be going one. but its a good start and hopefully more progress will be made on it.
Been watching this game for a long time and it is a fun simple game that can be challenging.
This game is just so much fun, it's addictive so be warned! Haha. Wonderfully engaging base building and management, scavenging for resources in the wasteland, fun combat, and great RPG elements and storytelling. The pixel art is adorable and nostalgic, the writing is quirky and funny. Reminds me so much of classics like the original Fallout 1/2, but with many modern twists and very open world. Really hard to stop playing!
A fun base building game with light adventure elements. What it offers is well polished and thought through, with humor slipped in wherever appropriate. A+
Pretty fun colony sim/management lots of resources to gather and craft. Story's quirky and doesn't take itself to seriously while giving you a reason to keep exploring and finding new things. Would love to additional weapons and armors, as well as more electrical machines to tinker around with. Gameplay - https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1626793309
A charming indie title that shows a lot of heart, even if the controls and menus can be a little frustrating at times. Sand: Superfluous Game feels different in a good way, and if you don’t mind some UI quirks and enjoy a real challenge, it’s definitely worth checking out. 👉 Watch our full YouTube First Look video for a closer look, and if it helped you decide, please give it a like so more players can discover this hidden gem! https://youtu.be/0kut9yB-X-4
A very relaxing forager-like game, it has a lot of potential
