Please do join and follow if you like my reviews! It's much appreciated!
Sakura Sakura is a hentai-based romance visual novel about a guy that’s going through school, and has to make a choice on which love interest he may pursue. There are two choices in each of the scenarios, and it makes replayability fun, trying both out. One thing that shocked me was the sheer amount of bonus content this has. You collect the usual CGs, have the ero scenes, make choices… but once you finish the main stories, you get to see your original character as one of the supporting characters in a bonus story with one of the other characters being who you are playing as, instead. It’s quite an interesting way it’s been done. Finding all the secret “sub-routes” leads to a final bonus ending story, but it’s quite a long read. Story’s good, and I ran into about four or five grammatical errors that were fairly minor. Fun characters, good humor throughout, and some good feelings going through the game overall. It takes time to get to the romantic parts during the initial story phase. The next few kick off with them much quicker once you’ve finished enough of the previous arcs. I was not expecting so much in this game, but it’s got a fairly large bit of content! Had a good time completing it, even though I could’ve just stopped with the first few flings as the main character.
Pros:

Character personality/art
Humor and story
Replayability!
Cons:

Drawn out, especially the ero scenes
Not many choices mattered a whole lot overall
Some predictability for me

Conclusion: There sure is a lot of game here for the price! I’ve played some VNs close to this range without even having half the material. If you love reading, this one’s great! However, on that note, the sex scenes can get a bit boring and redundant, the way they feel in description. Also the way the females are portrayed was a little offensive to me with the back and forth during their foreplay/sex. Hard to explain, but it felt weird - like for example, if she said to stop and they decided to go. This was kind of a weird dynamic to me, and I didn’t quite understand it. Perhaps it’s just me though. Just a slight issue I had overall, and probably part of why some of the scenes were a bit boring. It didn’t take away from the overall story though. It’s a great game that most adult VN readers would no doubt enjoy! I would like to note that the Steam Store 18+ dlc Patch contains mosaics, so it's kind of... an incomplete work. There might be other options out there. :P I usually get more... in depth, so sorry for the lazy review. Hopefully it covers all the main aspects one is interested in when searching for good visual novels. Hard to put to words, as is any art to be critiqued. It's worth it at the asking price! Typical Anime Romance Comedy with a little bit of love triangle, I highly recommend this game because it had a great stroy, decent art, and it got 18+patch for free. It's become one of my favourite Visual Novel I've played.
Old school drawing is the best :3
The main character is such a ♥♥♥♥♥ he gets bullied by children, we have a saying "talk ♥♥♥♥ get hit" smack the bastards in the face, the mc cant even be called human, the comedy of the anime is bullying a braindead kid with broken ribs, feels torturous to play through, like its made for masochists.
Hiqosoft
Sakura Sakura is one of the first visual novels I've read. I picked it up back when I was a beginner and had no idea how to pick VNs, and it ended up being a disaster. I constantly felt frustrated or just bored, and had to more or less drag myself to the finish line. What went so horribly wrong, you might ask? - The characters often act in ways that's nowhere near what a reasonable human being would act. They're also way too mean to each other, especially at the beginning. - It suffers from "anime sexism", where girls hitting guys is played off for laughs. I don't find violence funny, and it happens way too often in this VN, often over something extremely minor. The worst part is, when girls are targeted for violence, it's treated as a serious matter. Double standards, much? - The plot is about school clubs that are apparently taken way too seriously, and I just can't relate. Dude, chill, it's just a club, the fate of the world doesn't depend on it. - Nearly every character is apparently a bigshot, and conflicts are generally resolved by who's the "most powerful". It ends up being very anti-climactic. But the most damning weakness of this VN is just that it doesn't stand out in any way. I can forgive a few weaknesses if it also has strengths, or is unique in some way. But it's a bog standard romantic visual novel, rehashing various cliches from anime and other VNs, while bringing nothing new to the table.
Video review (including score):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VfVp19yuoY
The rundown:
Pros: + Actually decent love triangle + Great HD art + Facial animations + Configurable honorifics and keybinds Cons: - Wonky pacing - Lackluster config menu Sakura Sakura is yet another pure love story visual novel to make its way to Steam, this time from Sol Press, the same company that brought over Newton and the Apple Tree a few months ago. For being a pure love story, Sakura Sakura brings with it a surprisingly decent love triangle, but also suffers from the poor pacing common to the genre.
Pros:
Actually decent love triangle. Normally, a love triangle is a cause for pain in romance visual novels and something not often seen in pure love stories, but the love triangles here in Sakura Sakura manage to avoid that pitfall. The game takes this tried and true story setup and manages to spin it in such a way as to avoid being annoying. As a result, it goes fairly light on the cheap gimmicks, misunderstandings, and other tropes that often plague VN love triangles. In fact, the game had more drama outside of the love triangles than it did within them. While they definitely did not come without some drama, it really felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the drama-filled and clichéd love triangles usually seen in the genre. Great HD art. It seems like most visual novels nowadays are forced to stretch their art to reach 1080p, resulting in blurry assets regardless of how good the art may be. As such, I was quite surprised to see just how well the art scales in Sakura Sakura. The game may not run in widescreen, but when scaled up to 1080p, the art and other assets look fantastic. I did not see any jagged edges, blurry lines, or other artifacts that usually result from such upscaling. The art itself is pretty good as well — it is just made that much better by the excellent scaling. Facial animations. To go along with the great art, Sakura Sakura makes the game even more immersive by adding basic facial animations. These animations come in the form of blinking and moving the mouth when speaking, the latter of which is even synced with pauses in sentences. They are not only visible on character sprites, but characters depicted in CGs as well, making such scenes a whole lot more lively. Of course, these animations can sometimes look derpy, but they look good for the most part and I definitely appreciated their addition. Configurable honorifics and keybinds. Sakura Sakura may be lacking in the config department overall (more on that later), but it does have two options that I hardly ever see included in most visual novel releases: the option to toggle honorifics and the ability to change keybindings. The former is something I wish was present in more visual novels, as it satisfies both those that want an experience more akin to the original and those that want a more localized experience. The ability to change keybinds is something I would consider essential for any modern-day PC game release, so it really is a shame that most visual novels completely lack this option. Sakura Sakura at least offers basic keybind config support, although it definitely could be improved (such as allowing multiple keys to be bound to a single action). Sol Press is definitely setting a good example with these two options, so I hope that other VN localization companies follow suit.
Cons:
Wonky pacing. Unfortunately, Sakura Sakura suffers from a common problem affecting most pure love story VNs, that being bad pacing. Not only are the common routes extremely slow, but the character routes are almost the complete opposite, providing for a rather jarring shift in pacing. In fact, I was surprised when I reached the end of my first character route, as I had hardly spent any time in it compared to that of the common route prior. Part of this is due to the number of subplots covered in the common route (some of which the game could have definitely done without), but it largely comes down to how the game managed its pacing – it was either too fast or too slow, there was hardly any middleground. Had the game spread this pacing out evenly, the character routes would have been much more impactful, but as it stands, they really just feel rushed. Lackluster config menu. While the inclusion of configurable honorifics and keybinds is definitely a plus, Sakura Sakura is sorely lacking elsewhere in the config department. It has most of the basic settings one should expect from a modern VN release, including text speed, auto speed, skip options, and character voice options, but completely lacks other important features, such as animation options, font customization, and cursor options. For example, while I did like the facial animations, I can see how some may want them to be turned off, an option the game does not currently offer. On top of that, the game does not allow its regular animations to be configured. By regular I mean the animations that are often limited to just fade-ins, such as character pose changes. Some of these animations are quite slow, resulting in a noticeable delay between lines. In fact, this bothered me so much that I oftentimes found myself double-tapping enter in order to advance to the next line and skip the animation fading at the same time. The game has a few other problems related to its lackluster config menu, but these are the two examples that stood out to me.
Overall:
For a pure love story VN, Sakura Sakura definitely has some issues, especially when it comes to its wonky pacing and lackluster config menu. However, the game does manage to tell a decent story, one with a love triangle that is actually not annoying for once. On top of that, the game is very well-done graphically, with nice HD art and even some simple facial animations to make the game more immersive. As such, it earns my recommendation — it may not be the best, but it is definitely better than most. As all my friends say, I’m very picky when the subject is Visual Novels, I love them, but I also have an extremely specific taste, thus I usually spend hours and hours searching for VNs to find one I would like to play. So, it’s a hard task make me feel willing to buy a VN and even a harder one to make me love it, however Sakura Sakura managed to do both. Let’s start talking about the negative points first. In certain moments during the gameplay/reading I felt that humour was unnecessary used or overused, of course I know that we are talking about a comedy here, but I think that the typical anime humour ruined some dramatic or tense dialogs and moments of the story breaking the mood of the scene, I reckon that some scenes would have been better and add more to the story if their moods hadn’t been broken by humour. The other and last negative point is the loose ends, I feel that some parts of the story aren’t well explained or detailed and we just have to accept that it happened, but it doesn’t bother me that much because I love to create my own interpretations of the situations when I’m reading a VN and these “loose ends” give me space to do it (but of course that I don’t want a VN full of loose ends, and fortunately it doesn’t happen in Sakura Sakura). It is important to say that these negative points aren’t frequent during the VN, they only happen sometimes, so don’t worry, they won’t ruin your reading. And note that both negative points aren’t problems or fails of the game, they are just things of personal taste, so they might be positive to you or someone else. Well, let’s talk about the positive ones now. Something veeeery important to me in a VN is its length and unfortunately most of them here in Steam are quite short, taking usually 2, 5 or at maximum 10 hours to finish, what makes you don’t feel connected with the characters, because you don’t have the necessary time for it, you barely start playing and it is already over. But this VN is not like that, I’ve finished the story in almost 30 hours, what can sound a lot for a “just reading” game, but honestly, for me it doesn’t feel a lot, the time flies when you are reading, and furthermore, all this time being immersed in the story makes you feel attached to the characters and develop feeling for them, what really changes your experience. The artwork is fantastic, the drawing style of this VN is very beautiful and clean, making it very pleasant to look. All the scenarios are well-done and detailed; the facial expressions of the characters change according to the discussion and situation, fitting perfectly to what is happening as the scene flows; and the CGs are gorgeous, so much that one of them became my wallpaper. Audio: the soundtrack is excellent, it contains good songs for all the different situations you’ll find during the plot, happy song; sad songs; tense songs and of course the romantic ones, what improves a lot the reading. The dubbing is also amazing, the voices fit very well in the characters and the fact that all the dialogues are completely dubbed makes a huge difference. I don’t think I could spend 30 hours just hearing generic phrases being repeated over and over as how it occurs in other visual novels, it would be quite boring and annoying. However, all these positive things would mean nothing if the plot wasn’t good, but it is. The story is a high school slice of life, what pleases me a lot, once it’s not full of fanciful and impossible fictional things in its plot as it happens in almost every VN. Of course, somethings that usually don’t happen in a high-schooler life happen in this plot, but they are not impossible, this plot could be someone’s life, another reason that made me feel attached to the characters while I was reading. The story is quite catchy and immersive, my mood and feelings were constantly changing according to what was happening in the story and you’re always wanting to know what will happen next, countless were the moments I caught myself cheering for the protagonist and sharing his feelings. To conclude, I loved to play Sakura Sakura, it has a great story and it is a well-made VN. Although I’m now sad because I didn’t want this reading to end, I surely had a good time with it. I know the price is a bit salty, but I strongly recommend the game, it worths. I hope you have an awesome experience while playing it.
