Wild that this was 'released'. Totally unfinished and buggy
Abandonware. This was my original review when I recommended buying the game: "A gem of a saling sim. This guy took note of everything wrong with Sailwind and did something about it: - Here you sail the real, whole, wide world instead of fictional archipelagos. - You can sail the ship alone or hire crew that can manage helm, halyards, sheets and pump for you. You actually see them walking the deck and adjusting stuff. However, the world size is compressed to 1/40th of the real size and the day/night cycle is only somewhat longer than that of Sailwind (I wish one day we'll have a real time age of sail sim, kind of like Sailaway 3 for modern boats). All in all, a transatlantic voyage will take hours and the experience is really satisfying. In its early stages (the game is a bit over 1 year old since release), there are things to improve but the dev seems to be quite active." Now I must recommend the opposite. Apparently the developer is discouraged with the selling performance of this "niche game" and is "not worth working on" (his words, see "Viking" thread on the forum). Apparently, he wants to succed first, and work later. Anyone here knows other best selling "niche games"? I can name a few...

Not ready to try really playing. Cool idea. Imo it needs traditional 'early access' sort of cheats to get out of bugs. Also a way to quick load if you have quicksave... Part way through my first voyage, I tried sleeping, pointed into open water, sails, rudder set well for going straight. The second I hit sleep, I teleported to and smashed into shore. No time to react. I'm familiar with the 30x sleep speed, this wasn't that, just suddenly land lol. Next I happened to quicksave to check out what it did. After a bit, I docked successfully at my destination, i clicked on the ladder on the dock next to my ship and was teleported... somewhere in the middle of land... if we had early access cheats I could have returned to my ship somehow. I re-loaded that providential quick save... but the wind was pointing in the opposite direction it was when I saved.... so going down the narrow channel to bristol was perfectly into the eye of the wind instead of perfectly away from it.. It didn't save the game state, it just partially saved... It was snowing and windy and night when I saved, with a favorable wind. I had to load due to a bug and got 100% contrary wind. That's when I decided I wasn't gonna play this game for a while lol. I hope it's worth playing someday :) The fundamentals are fantastic other than that stupid door on the sloop you get stuck in and glitch in easy lol.
Enjoyable to play as is but I do hope development continues. Needs some polish around the edges and some variety when it comes to ports. Other than that the sailing mechanics are good and the open seas (swells and foam) feel very good) If you are coming from other saiing games, you will enjoy this one too.
brutal
oddly enough i feel like me and him a have few things in common. i played my garage and kept hearing ppl whine abt the time he spends on his "boat game" lol so i checked it out lo and behold this "boat game" is a decently fleshed out age of sail sim ive always wanted lol sea of thieves hit a spot but the style of this is perfect. however this gem has a few issues as all indies do. the main one that sticks out is the optimization in port. its really bad.. and yea the ports are kinda empty and unfinished but it does what it needs to. once ur out on the water it runs great. the water physics are awesome but the clipping through the deck is a little eh but i can rationalize it to water on the deck. but yea, cool boat game lol i get most of it now but it NEEDS a tutorial.. fr
