Probably the most challenging sad virus entry when it comes to parkour. As always, the game is all about collecting bottles and trying not to get smashed into pieces. It would be nice if there was an option to increase the brightness as I really struggled to see where I was supposed to go in some parts. For the achievement hunters, the game takes about 15 minutes to 100%
Even as far as the low standards of the Sad Virus franchise go, this particular title has a needlessly big level that's painfully dark to a degree you have to guess where the bottles might be. Towards the end of the level, there are no traps to use to respawn at the provided checkpoint, forcing extra detours. I guess the only positive I could highlight is that the framerate is relatively stable.
Sad Virus Waterland is a third person walking simulator. The player has to find beer bottles in the game world and each one has an achievement,. The graphics are much better with shadows and puzzle elements are less obvious. Jump platforms can help the player move to new levels. Dell 3480 with Arc Xe graphics and RTX A500 discrete graphics. Game is very playable.

Warning: Asset Flip!
Sad Virus Waterland is an asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", Valkeala Software/Tero Lunkka, took the Sharur's Underwater Temple game assets from the real developers, Sharur, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work. This asset flip also contains the much-abused "Sucker Virus" character from PolyNext. Valkeala Software/Tero Lunkka has shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Sharur's Underwater Temple" is just a small Unreal asset pack with an underwater temple environment, and doesn't have any merit as a proper, fully fledged PC game. It's just a minimum viable product, just enough to get through the non-existent quality control on Steam Direct. Not a real game. Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off. Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have, and make it harder for gamers to find real games from genuine developers. The prime example of the stolen and plagiarized assets from Tero here is the Sucker Virus which was really created by PolyNext. But Tero wants YOUR money for PolyNext's virus asset. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month. Ethics aside, the quality problems and defects with this game makes the asking price totally unrealistic. It's impossible to recommend this to gamers here on Steam, especially considering the unethical stuff going on. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from Valkeala Software.
Actual trash. $1 for a random mashup of Unreal Engine assets you can slowly walk through (literally). It's the same regurgitated slop over and over again.
Nice 3D-Platformer / Adventure. + I liked those hyper high jumps - Some dark areas, hard to see? Achievements, 100% / ~30min.
Sad Virus Waterland is a short experimental exploration platformer that mixes simple collectible hunting, environmental hazards, and surreal aquatic environments into a strangely atmospheric indie experience. Developed by Valkeala Software, the game continues the unusual “Sad Virus” series with another minimalist adventure focused on traversal and achievement collection rather than complex storytelling or deep gameplay systems. Although the project is clearly small in scope and budget, it still manages to create a mildly memorable experience through its strange presentation, water-themed environments, and surprisingly challenging platforming sections. The premise is intentionally straightforward. Players enter a bizarre “Waterland” environment where the main objective is to locate eight hidden beer bottles scattered throughout the map. Each bottle unlocks a corresponding achievement, making exploration and completion the central focus of the game. Instead of guiding players through a narrative-heavy adventure, Sad Virus Waterland places emphasis on environmental navigation, hazard avoidance, and discovering hidden areas across its surreal aquatic landscape. What helps the game stand out slightly from many other low-budget walking simulators is its environment design. The world features flooded areas, sharks, floating platforms, oversized aquatic vegetation, traps, and strange structures that create a dreamlike atmosphere somewhere between a simple platformer and a surreal exploration game. The colorful water effects and bright lighting occasionally give the environment an oddly relaxing appearance, even while environmental hazards constantly threaten the player. Although the game initially resembles a basic walking simulator, platforming quickly becomes one of its main gameplay elements. Players must carefully navigate traps, use jump pads to cross dangerous gaps, and avoid falling into hazards while searching for collectibles. Some sections require surprisingly precise movement and timing, especially later in the experience where platforming becomes more demanding. This heavier focus on movement gives the game more interactivity than many similar short-form exploration titles. The collectible system itself is extremely simple but effective for the kind of experience the game aims to deliver. Hidden beer bottles function as both progression markers and Steam achievements, encouraging players to explore every corner of the environment. Since the overall runtime is fairly short, the hunt for collectibles becomes the primary motivation for continuing through the map. Achievement hunters will likely appreciate how straightforward the completion process is once the environment becomes familiar. Visually, Sad Virus Waterland remains fairly basic from a technical perspective, but it occasionally succeeds through atmosphere rather than graphical complexity. Water reflections, shadows, colorful lighting, and environmental details help create a more visually interesting world than expected from such a small indie project. The surreal layout of the map and strange environmental combinations give the game an experimental charm that occasionally works in its favor. The sound design is minimal overall, but environmental audio helps reinforce the isolated atmosphere of the game. Water ambience, movement sounds, and environmental effects quietly support the feeling of wandering through an abandoned aquatic playground filled with hidden dangers. The absence of heavy dialogue or story exposition keeps attention focused entirely on exploration and movement. One of the game’s more admirable qualities is its honesty about what it wants to be. Sad Virus Waterland does not attempt to disguise itself as a massive narrative experience or an advanced platformer. It fully embraces being a short surreal indie project centered around exploration, collectibles, and environmental hazards. This simplicity helps the experience remain focused instead of overcomplicating its limited mechanics. However, the game also suffers from several obvious weaknesses. The biggest issue is the overall lack of depth. Beyond locating bottles, avoiding traps, and completing platforming sections, there is very little gameplay variety or mechanical progression. Players searching for complex puzzles, meaningful storytelling, or advanced movement systems may quickly become bored by the repetitive structure. The controls and visibility can occasionally create frustration as well. Certain jumps require more precision than the movement system comfortably supports, and some darker areas make navigation harder than necessary. Since the game relies heavily on environmental traversal, moments of unclear visibility or awkward movement can interrupt the pacing and make failure feel irritating rather than rewarding. The short runtime is another limitation. Most players will likely complete the entire game within a relatively brief session, especially those focused primarily on achievement completion. While the compact length matches the game’s simple design philosophy, it also means many of the ideas introduced throughout the environment never evolve beyond their basic forms. Technical limitations are also noticeable throughout the experience. Animations, interactions, and environmental details remain relatively simplistic, and the game clearly reflects the constraints of a small indie production. Some areas feel rough around the edges, particularly during platforming sequences that demand tighter control precision. Despite these flaws, Sad Virus Waterland still succeeds moderately well at delivering the kind of experience it promises. The strange aquatic setting, light platforming elements, and achievement-focused exploration combine into a small but somewhat distinctive indie adventure that feels more memorable than many other minimalist exploration games simply because of its unusual atmosphere. For players who enjoy short indie experiments, surreal walking simulators, achievement hunting, or lightweight platforming games with strange environmental themes, Sad Virus Waterland offers a brief but occasionally entertaining diversion. It lacks depth and long-term replay value, but its surreal atmosphere and simple collectible-driven gameplay still give it a small amount of charm within the crowded indie exploration genre.
