KOSTENLOS
S.P.L.I.C.E.D. ----------------------------- S.P.L.I.C.E.D. is a free student project, so maybe you can test it and draw your own conclusions, but if you want to save your time I can say: it's a surprisingly heavy metroidvania (I think it lacked a lot of optimization, the game isn't even pretty), tedious and without any unique elements. The gameplay is so slow and boring that most people who tested it (including me) couldn't even finish the 30 minutes that is the total length of the game, if it were to evolve into a "real" game I recommend including a lot more elements than just a single type of obstacle and 2 types of enemies that you can simply shoot from afar and they don't even pose a threat.
This game is really bad even for a free product. First, the performance. 90% load on 3080Ti to run @1440p at 60 fps. Yes, the visuals are fine, but come on, even RDR2 doesn't stress this videocard that much on max settings. And this game still looks worse than some of the 2.5D platformers released several years ago, for instance, Ori and the Will of the Wisps or Trine 4. Then, the 3C: camera, controls, character. The foundation of every game. If 3C is bad, the game is most likely too (with a few deliberate exceptions like Silent Hill and Resident Evil). in Spliced, camera is junky and twitchy, character collides with environment objects that seem to be in the background, and doesn't interact with the objects that seem to be just in front of the character. Finally, the controls: whoever implemented jumping and shooting mechanic in this project probably didn't play any videogames released in the past 10-15 years. The locations (at least those I reached before uninstalling) are absolutely linear, so I have no idea why this is called metroidvania.
Seems like a demo or early alpha, which is fine since it's free, but probably not worth your time. At least the game is very short, beat in well under an hour despite getting lost and messing around a bit. Definitely not a metroidvania like advertised and is linear with defined levels/areas that you clear before moving on to the next one. The character controls alright, but below average for a game with this much focus on platforming. The combat is very simple which I found boring towards the end. Basically just hold your mouse on the enemy and run backwards to win.
On the lowest settings I had average fps of 25, with peak around 40. The camera is extremely jittery and laggy. The gameplay and movement are unpolished af. I planned on stopping after the first boss, but before that I got lost somewhere around the 1st or 2nd checkpoint because there seemed to be a dead end, and afterwards got stuck when I jumped into the ceiling. I tried loading a save, but instead of loading me at the checkpoint, I got loaded back to the begining, so I just gave up right then and there. The only good thing in this game are the graphics.
Promising, would be 10x more enjoyable without the companion, couldn't keep going after stopping my progress many times to tell me simple stuff.
I'd like to play it, but I can't. Even on lowest settings, lags horribly. And it's "hardware benchmark" option sets everything to high, when that's clearly not feasible for my hardware. For reference, my pc can play Elden Ring without major issues. Ridiculously poor optimization.
