A sidescrolling fantasy RPG with roguelike elements and a souls-like setting. The world of Ruine is amorphous, its past long forgotten by most. Forests and ruins are inhabited by creatures that once lived and now refuse to die. Use what you can find or craft to eradicate them.

There's the framework of an excellent game here. Pros: You won't get bogged down in systems Enemy actions are well telegraphed You can figure out the enemies after a brief encounter with each one There's still some skill in managing the enemies after you familiarize yourself with them There's plenty of opportunity to weigh your options on risk and reward. This particular art style hasn't been done to death. Cons: I didn't find much to do at the moment but I got at least a good hour of enjoying the core loop out of it, that being said I haven't been able to get past the first boss yet, so who knows how much is beyond that point. Sometimes it's hard to judge the hitboxes on enemies due to the scaling, but with larger enemies that usually works in your favor. I didn't seem to have the ability to parry with RMB even after getting a shield until I was using a single 2 handed weapon. Conclusion: I feel like this is the kind of game steam early access was intended to benefit most. If what I played was an elevator pitch, I'm sold.
Although early in development, the content that's currently in Ruine feels super well polished! The visuals and music are great, menus are intuitive and responsive. Had a very satisfying hour working out the core loop and learning the enemy movement patterns and I'll definitely be playing some more this evening to try working up to that boss. ( Edit: I played another couple hours, beat the first boss and played through the next zone - very fun! ) I think the attention to detail when it comes to feel, visuals and sound show that the dev cares about the game, and I'm sure we'll get some great content down the line. Worth the buy now for a couple hours of fun, and worth the investment in future content while it's cheap!

The potential of this game is incredibly strong. The art style, world and characters are making me eager to see more from this game. There's a solid gameplay loop that'll keep you experimenting with different builds throughout different playthroughs. Very good stuff! Obviously, there's a lot to improve and balance. Combat isn't as in depth as I feel it could be. Ruins, while fun to progress through, are quite basic in level design and detail, and the game can be finished in under an hour if you know what you're doing and/or lucky enough from the RNG loot. However, I have no reason to believe that future updates wont prolong and develop the experience and that the developer wont continue to support this game for the future. Support our indies people!
Really fun game altho after like an hour and a half of gameplay i got all the stuff that i needed to get to beat the boss and i couldnt find anything to do afterwards, i dont think it has another boss yet but its a really fun game overall
Bias: I've playtested this game. While my "hrs on record" do not reflect it, I've spent hours and hours playtesting this game - breaking it, finding bugs, dying over and over and over... and I love this game. The art, music, atmosphere, and humor all work together in creating this wonderful game world filled with intriguing NPCs and clever enemies. I am not particularly good at this type of game, but I enjoy the hell out of Ruine in spite of that. I highly recommend checking it out. Edited to Add: The dev continues to update this game with new content - enemies, areas, treasures, equipment... Ruine just gets better and better.
I recommend this game. I will post my full review soon. Full disclosure: I am a friend of the developer.
Awesome Game. Brings back old memories of those games i used to play in school trying not to get caught. :D
I dived deep into the dungeon, only the loot in my mind and the exp from the monsters I would slay. I found myself diving into the same "forgotten pathway" many times over, each time more exited about the loot and the monsters I´d find there. After 2 hours of playing and gathering up better gear, I got to the first boss battle. I died of course, but I enjoyed it. The game is really enjoyable with good game play mechanics and nice little graphical details you notice along the way. The developer is working on more content and it´s already worth a try. I´ll be back to slay the first boss and explore more of Ruine.
Once i got something else than starting weapon, the game just sucked me in and I had an good time with it.
This game is super fun. it's kinda hard in the beginning but its not supposed to be easy. Has a wonderful music and visuals. The first boss is kinda hard at first but gets easy after a few levels or decent items. If you're looking for a short yet hard game I highly recommend it.
