I really, really wanted this to be good. The sequel to RLL4 was long overdue (8 years!) and I was hoping that drastic upgrades would be made in that time. Unfortunately, it's a prettier, yet buggier, RLL4. I'll start with the positives, because it'd be dishonest to say there's none at all. - The graphics are decent. - The player-likeness is genuinely amazing. I know some players have complained that certain players look off, but overall they've done a fantastic job here. - The character creation is good. - The kit creator is great. - Free 2026 roster update. - Career mode is fun. - Custom difficulty brought some much needed balance to the game as BigAnt seem incapable of doing it themselves (back-handed compliment, I know.) - In-field kicking has genuinely improved, but it still needs refinement. There's probably more positives I could throw in, but that's all I can think of right now. Let's move onto the negatives: - The game is the buggiest Rugby League game ever created - seriously. I'm forced to pull the plug on nearly half of my games because the AI will break, rendering the match completely unplayable. It's horrific. - The gameplay itself is lacking. I'm not sure if BigAnt are trying to lean into a simulator or arcade style game, but it doesn't work. Creating an overlap is far too hard, relying on RNG-based evasion techniques to break the line. - The physics in this game are... non-existent. If you create a small gap in the line for your centre to break through, if the defender is within a certain radius, he will teleport in front of the runner and bring him to a stop completely. It's unrealistic, frustrating and forces you to cheese to break the line. - Whilst some of the animations are really good, some are just downright goofy. - Passing needs a serious overhaul. It's unpredictable and messy. - Recent patches have destroyed the Hooker role. A few patches ago, the ruck was far too unbalanced in favour of Hookers, but they've swung it too far the other way. Defenders at the ruck are now NEVER offside when they're blatantly not square. I've had defenders stand beside the hooker, then as soon as the ball is played, they tackle the hooker from behind the PTB. It's ruined an entire player-career for me. - Speed. There's a massive lack of speed in the game. Players like Jai Field, Matty Ashton, Jason Saab and Addo-Car are always chased down by slower players. The only player I'm actually able to score long-range tries with is my 99-rated custom player. To be honest, I could go on and on with the negatives even more than I have, but I have a finite lifespan, and I believe my point has been made. Unless you're a Rugby League fan who needs his fix, then don't bother with this game. I'll be honest, I don't think BigAnt are up to the task to create a decent Rugby League game, and the NRL and SL should look at investing in a different game developer. Do I enjoy this game? Half the time. Will I continue to play it? Probably. Would I recommend it? No.
I highly do not recommend this game. The developers do not care or think about the players. The developers were never equipped to create this game. This game is almost 85gb in size... When you put this game into comparison with games such as Cyberpunk, Red dead redemption 2, Gta 5 which are all around this size.... HOW IS THIS EVEN CLOSELY TO THEIR STANDARDS... THIS LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST RELEASED ON PS3... ITS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A GAME. BIGGEST AND I MEAN BIGGGEEEESST WASTE OF $100. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY.
Was really excted for this, but it's just a clunky version of RLL4. Next time just charge me for the offical team updates as DLC instead of wasting time making a worse game.
Gameplay was OK. Not a massive step up from the other Rugby league titles, but still fun. However, Where it completely fell down and ultimately led to a refund was the frequent crashes, inability to even start in career mode without the game crashing. Devs in various forums seem to blame 'custom' items and deny any real bugs with career mode. I played completely vanilla. Ultimately paying £49.99 for a game where the only mode that consistently works is exhibition mode is a rip-off. Given how long the game has been out and the attitude of the devs I doubt it will be fixed, so even on a hefty discount it's not worth buying .The game as it is is nothing more than a demo and as such should be free.
played 30 minutes, experienced 3 different bugs.
I honestly don’t know how a game in 2026 can still be this flawed. It’s frustratingly poor in so many areas. On a surface level, it looks fine—menu screens, player models, presentation all seem solid and there’s not much to complain about there. But once you actually start playing, it falls apart quickly. The first few minutes feel promising, then the issues start piling up. A fullback will chase down a relatively simple 40m kick, only to fumble it repeatedly as it bounces off his body and head multiple times before somehow going dead in goal, instead of just cleanly picking it up. You can get a penalty and go for a kick to touch, but if you aim even slightly beyond the default, it often just ends up kicking straight back into play. Tackles and fend animations are also stupid, with players fending down the line but the fend animation bounces them 5m into touch. I really want to enjoy it, but it gets to the point where you can only handle one game at a time before it becomes genuinely frustrating. There are just too many things that don’t make sense. Even small quality-of-life issues stand out, like the quick interchange menu. All bench players are labelled simply as “SUB” instead of showing their actual positions. When you’re playing career mode with teams you’re not fully familiar with, it makes it hard to know who you’re bringing on and where they play. It’s such a basic detail, but it’s missing. The longer you play, the more these issues build up, and it becomes harder to ignore how rough it feels overall. It’s a real shame.
Game shows black screen, and i didnt pay 100 dollars to see a black screen
Every single update the game just becomes absolutely broken the developers have no clue what they are doing, cant make any space because the ai defensive line is always 100% set no one is ever offside can never big hit them but i get big hit every tackle and knock it on, then after the knock on there is a scrum play where you get side stepped and they score under the posts 99% of the time if you dont slide a player over to cover the person that gets stepped. Once the other team has momentum you are pretty much done for, cant play on veteran because everyone is exhausted in the first half so theres 50 different injuries. My players feel ridiculously slow cannot make metres, whether i play on veteran or pro the game is always 6-0 for the first half and then the second half its just a blowout. The AI they use to determine whether i can challenge a play or not is trash i never get to use captains challenges anymore. There are blatant knock ons from the AI and they never get called FIX YOUR GAME ITS HORRIBLE TO PLAY
