why can i not romance Neri? i wanted to romance him in Royal Alchemist and now i cannot romance him again. life is a prison.
I really liked Royal Alchemist, so I played this directly afterwards and loved it. This game took all the little nitpicks I had about the first title and improved them. Positives: + Once again, the characters are fantastic. Everyone is really well written and has a lot more depth than I thought at first glance. Even very minor side characters get some development during the story. + I loved the worldbuilding and how they handled the whole war. It would be easy to have one side be the bad guys, but the game actually goes into why they are fighting and manages to paint both sides as somewhat justified. You can understand their motivations and feel for their reasons. + The storytelling was amazing. It dragged on a little bit for 2-3 weeks at one point, but it had me hooked for 95% of the game. The suspense and drama was palpable and I binged through like 8 hours of story the first time I opened the game, because I didn't want to stop. The plot twists were well placed and in my opinion more plausible/better set up than in the first game. It feels like in the previous game the main story was a means to allow the romance plot, but this time the narrative is equally as captivating (if not even more important) as the romances. In fact, I liked some of the friendship (and even bad ends) more than some romance ends. + The stakes were very high. One of my nitpicks with the first game was how "neutral" the player character was. This time, the whole story is deeply personal for the player character and they have a lot to lose/gain. I was rooting/feeling for them the entire time. + The art is even better than in the first one. Additionally, you now unlock both the masculine and feminine version of the pictures featuring your character at the same time and don't need to replay the entire game to unlock them. Also, there are even more chibi pictures, which are still really cute. + Male and female dating options + The stat raising is explained much better and the game gives you hints as to which stats are important for each character/ route. It feels much more forgiving and intuitive without following a step-by-step guide. + The references to the first game were really well made. You can fully understand what is going on without any prior knowledge, but the little easter eggs truely made it feel like the games are playing in the same world and impacted each other. Mixed feelings: o It definitely feels like one route is clearly intended to be the main one. I happened to play this one first, which probably played a huge part in my liking of the game. While I really like the other two love interests, the "main" one feels so much more developed. The emotions feel more genuine, their goals align more, even the sub-plots and side characters get so much more screentime and development. For me, this route had the most emotional impact and supported the narrative the most while the other two ...didn't exactly clash with it, but felt more like a reprieve. Spending time with them was a nice break/calm before the storm instead of keeping the tension high the whole time. But to credit the storywriters: I don't mean this in a negative way. It didn't pause the narrative or interrupt the pacing. I guess it depends more on personal tastes and what you like in a story. I'm gonna get into spoiler territory really shortly and summarize my feedback for the routes without saying anything about the plot: In my opinion, Emrys
is the true route and the "high tension / narrative playthrough". I definitely liked him the most.
Iris
was a pleasant surprise and offered some interesting side plots as well. She felt like the "feel good with some political drama option".
Darryl
was a bit disappointing. I really, really like him as a character, he has a strong supportive cast and 1-2 really hard hitting moments, but overall I felt the romance the least.
Negatives: - Like in the prequel, non-important characters don't get pictures and are just shown with shadow shapes. In general, I am totally fine with that, but the choices who gets a picture and who doesn't seemed a bit weird sometimes. Like, there is this council rival, who you have like 2 or 3 very short interactions with. She gets a character art, but neither the people you live with nor ANY of the enemy Sval get a picture? I mean, you could have at least made one Sval picture and used that for all of them or just changed their hair colours or something. But the game does such a good job of making me feel sympathy for them and I don't get to see any of them. Not even the leaders. This also leads to the prologue/first 20 mins featuring a battle between indistinct shadows. So I can understand why some people get really thrown off by that. I can assure you, most people have art after that sequence! But it's a poor way of making a good first impression. Anyways, this is a really minor criticism. Overall, I'd give this game a 9/10.
The story and graphics are both excellent, i also love the music and the variety of choices and consequences. Although I'm not usually a fan of stats-raising games, I found Royal Order to be a very enjoyable experience. However, RO lacks a certain level of romance. This is quite expected and logical within the setting of the game, but for me as a player:

there was a lack of romance. It begins only towards the story's end.

Emrys
feels like the true route.
While you and Emrys are married in his romance ending, Darryl is his romance ending in a secret relationship with the MC. This would be clearer if Darryl were the crown prince, but he is not :)
overall, it ruined the game impression for me
Despite this, I would still highly recommend Royal Order. It's a great game with a solid plot and interesting characters. If you're looking for an otome or romance game, it might not be ideal, but it's still worth checking out.
If this game wasn't romance based I would rate it higher, however this game turned out to be worse than the last. I was captivated an enthralled by the games demo, and so I thought 'okay the last game was alright, this game surly should be an improvement'. ... I was sorely disappointed. In terms of game lore and game play it's good however when it comes to love interests. The game clearly has a preference and unlike the previous game where you learn more about the overall 'lore' through each run. You don't for this game. SPOILERS: <spoilers>The MC is the demon sovereign of the Slav - a group who live off magic, however were forced to raid because the alchemists created homunculi and ... threw off the balance. It was fun sneaking around trying to not arouse suspicion, that pat of the game I liked a lot. Emerys is the 'true route'. He is the spawn of your black demon friend conjured up when he died all those years ago. His route is the best, there's true companionship and romance there, not to mention with Emrys being immortal and you also being immortal. His ending makes the most sense. DONT GET ME STARTED ON DARRYL's ending... his route was nauseatingly bad. Look I get that he's a sheltered prince but having him whine about carrots in his soup... AT 24. I get that there's character development but that actually made me sick. And put me off doing Iris' route.</spoilers> Like I'm sure I'm not going to get more lore out of her route but gosh the romance in this game is ... smt else. I wouldn't say overall the game is trash, as the world building and foreshadowing is *chefs kiss. However in regards of making the game a captivating romance, that just pulls your heart strings. There's lacking in that department here.
I love men
dark silhouettes were very annoying and made the game feel lifeless without the faces of the people you talked to
Let me first say this: I played Royal Alchemist ages ago, so I kinda knew what I would get into. I also liked that they change the difficulty, as in, choosing easy won't lead easily to a death ending anymore.into However, if you go into this game for the romance, I would not recommend the game. The romance was mostly very frustrating for me - and I almost deinstalled the game before finishing it with the romance in one route. Storywise, the game is very interesting, with some stuff I personally didn't like, but interesting enough to keep me going. Pro:

Interesting Story and world building
Interesting stat raiser (magic, behavior, suspicion)
Cute Art
Different Endings e.g Friendship and Romance Endings.
Neutral:

Art gallery with daily life/deaths. The chibis are cute. This is not included in the general gallery, so each playthrough will reset it.
There are shadows for many characters. Personally, I don't mind it.
The game has one overall Story with different character branches that will ultimately lead to the overall story again
Con:

The first part of the game feels very different than the second part. I know that the character has a secret, but playing as if I don't know it when im playing the character is just not my taste. Especially after the second part, it feels like a personality switch (for me)
Romance can be frustrating, and one LI is basically the true LI. Like in the game before, this game is more plot-oriented and this is also shown in the endings. The most frustrating part was
Darryls route, which almost made me deinstall the game

Some plot issues that I don't understand. For example ||Someone is feeding information to the enemy, attacking the queen etc.. but is not get much trouble for it.. That feels... weird and other stuff like this||
I really liked that the devs changed the difficulty compared to their first game and the art etc got better as well. However, I'm just even more frustrated with the romance in this game compared to the first. I also wasn't a fan of having something that felt like a true romance route with 3 LI's.
I highly enjoyed both Royal Alchemist and Royal Order so it would be hard for me to decide which one I prefer. Overall, they both present great story with interesting characters. Each of the available paths add something to the world building and to the plot, however one path is visibly more developed and feels like the "true ending" (
Emrys
) but I think all of them are worth completing. I recommend playing these games in order as Royal Alchemist provides more context to Royal Order so I'd say pick both of them up if you are interested.
There are two types of playable novels: The kind where you can wrangle your own narrative and the kind that expects you to ǵame the game and to accept to tricked. If you prefer the first type, skew away.
This is where I'll leave my heart.
Every time I come across some amazing story, I'm afraid that it was the last time, that I'll never find something that can embrace my soul so much. I'm not saying that the stories that come my way are bad. Not at all. They are interesting, they arouse emotions in me, they entertain me, intrigue me and so on, but they are not able to get through my skin, flesh and bones to reach the core. However, the "Royal Order" proved to be more than capable of doing this.
This game is excellent in every way.
To begin with, this is an exciting story in which, importantly, there is an opportunity to build a romantic relationship. This is a visual novel, but it doesn't consist solely of text, images, and choices. It also allows you to upgrade your character using other methods and think strategically. In addition, the game has different difficulty levels, which makes it even more interesting, although, I admit, I did not take the risk and choose the most difficult level, since my weak heart would not have survived a large number of deaths, and it was already faced with a sufficient number of them. Yes, some characters in the game die. Basically, these are not the most significant characters that appear in the story as a "shadow," but I would be lying if I said that it didn't hurt me to lose them, because every character in the game became dear to me. I wanted to know their stories and not know their deaths, but alas. It's also worth noting that this visual novel is beautiful, in all terms of beauty, but at the moment I'm talking specifically about visual. I was especially attracted to the chibi drawings. It's adorable, but everything else is beautiful too. Actually, I can talk for a long time about the advantages of this game, but I don't have enough space, so I'll just say one thing: for the first time in my life, I'm meeting a story that absolutely meets my desires. This is exactly what I was looking for, and what was worth looking for. It merged with my soul and now it will stay with me forever. I thank everyone who participated in the creation of this masterpiece. But I would be a bad review writer if I didn't point out the cons, but I hasten to assure you that they don't really exist. How come? Well, first of all, there's something that I personally would like to see a little differently, let's just say, but it's nothing more than a matter of taste, so it doesn't count. Secondly, there were probably some flaws or mistakes in this visual novel, because no one and nothing is perfect, but I was completely engrossed in delight, so I didn't notice anything. Well, and thirdly, it wasn't enough for me. Actually, with each new week, I thought that the game was about to end, but it went on and on, and it delighted me every time. But, anyway, when the story ended, it still wasn't enough for me. I've enjoyed every second of this game, but I would give it even more of my time if it were possible. I'm interested in knowing some details, something that happened after the final scenes or even before them, I would like to read about the fate of some characters, even those who were mentioned only once, and then only in one route. Oh, I would like everything, but I perfectly understand that the developers simply did not have the opportunity to satisfy all my desires, they gave me enough, so this is also not a con. I am grateful that "Royal Order" happened in my life. And I just hope that this is not the last delightful story on my way, but in any case, this is now my favorite story, which is second only to one animated series that became a part of my soul when I was a child. Love to all.
