overall alright for in between.
There's a good concept here, but the execution is lacking. The movement mechanics are rough and imprecise, deaths are sudden and often aren't telegraphed, the "survival" and respawn mechanics seem half-baked, and it's totally bizarre how new objects simply spawn without warning at midnight. I didn't enjoy this one, and I don't think you would either. Not recommended.
you die like almost instantly ;(
Worst Sokpop game I've played so far. Premise is fine. Great even! The execution, however, is exactly that. A gruesome, public execution that seeks to cut that potential short in as quickly and efficiently a manner as possible. If you want to see a compelling idea die, here is the place to do so. The flying controls in the game are almost able to meet the bare minimum. Sure, it can get you from place to place, but it rarely works in the way you want it to. This is because the landing system is exceedingly overeager to put you on every tree, power cable, and pole it can, often directly ignoring you desire to land in the places you actually need to. Landing also disorients you a ton too, due to how it just snaps you into a position. This means that you'll often need to reorient yourself to find the thing you landed to pick up. Once you sort that out, you just need to fly back to the nest. Problem is, the game is pretty iffy about letting you land on the structure your nest is on, as the landing feature can randomly stop working there specifically. It is also worth noting that flying into any obstacle instantly kills you. This combination of problems often results in you failing to land manually, dying, then dying several more times trying to retrieve the twig that fell to the ground when you died. Of course, this all assumes that building your nest, the objective of the game, is what you'll spend the majority of your time doing. It isn't. Instead, most of what you will be looking for are forms of food to keep the insatiable energy bar from running out and forcing you to restart completely. The fact that the energy indicator doesn't drain at the rate you use it means that it is constantly unclear how your actions precisely affect it. While it is clear that this was done to give you some extra time before it runs out after being spent, it really just makes it a nuisance you can't properly budget. Due to the random way items spawn, you'll often find yourself with either nothing nearby, or an abundance of whatever resource you don't currently need. You can't just leave these and come back for them when you need them though, since there are other birds that'll take them. You can attack them to stop them. In a theoretical sense. In practice there isn't anything you can do, and you shouldn't even bother. The attack system is so buggy that trying to get it to function at all is apparently worthy of an achievement. Normally a developer uses their achievements to highlight the fun parts of the game. Not here though. All this serves to do is shine a spotlight on a stillborn mechanic. I don't know if that makes it better or worse than the one for killing yourself. Because of course there is one for that too. It's the "Get killed by a rattlesnake" one. Given that you are a bird and can fly, snakes are laughably easy to avoid. The only time you will ever find yourself killed by a snake is when you deliberately go out of your way to make it happen. Really the only reason this achievement seems to exist is so that the time spent implementing the snakes doesn't look like the complete waste of time that it was. The snakes' inability to kill you is in direct contrast to the hunter's, who can easily kill you in a variety of ways. It isn't without warning though. There is a very clear indicator for when you are about to be shot. It's just that there isn't always something you can do to stop it. I understand not getting too close to their hunting area. That makes sense. What doesn't though, is the fact that attempting to attack a bird will cause them to zero in on both you and that bird regardless of your location. Just in case you wanted it to be even harder to get that previously mentioned "Attack a bird" achievement. 90% of my playtime is just me trying to attack a bird only for the hunter to steal my kill and then kill me immediately afterwards. Why did I even play this game again? If the idea behind this game interests you, then you should probably make that idea into a game yourself. Sokpop has set the bar so low here that making a game worse than this one is incredibly unlikely. If you do somehow manage that though, then at least spare the rest of us the trouble and don't put it on Steam.
Was it necessary to put a sniper with 100% accuracy and vision on you at all times in your game about a crow gathering twigs
A short interesting experience, like most of the sokpop game, i wouldn't recommend on its own but would recommend the bundle if you like interesting short game.
Great experience by Sokpop! This game is really unique, in that it actually tries to capture what it would feel like to be a bird. And I'd say it succeeds for the most part! The controls are tight and the graphics have a pretty neat style to them. It's pretty short and the map is small, but I'd say it's enough for the price of the game. The only complaint I would have is about attacking another bird: This also is one of the achievements, and it's VERY hard to get. Attacking a bird will make you lock on to it, but you will never be able to catch up to it if you just chase it. You have to very aggressively try to catch your target in a tight turn OR let your bird slide over the ground while locked on to your pray to gain a speed boost and then quickly rise up. Other than that, great game though!
Rook's a pretty cute but also very simple and short game, the trailer basically shows everything there is to the game. In this game you're a bird building your nest. You have to fly around and collect twigs to add to your nest, find food to keep up the energy to fly around and avoid dangers on your quest, like hunters, snakes, etc. This really is all there is to the game, you can finish it in 10-20 minutes once you get the hang of it. On the plusside, you can get 100% Achievements fairly quick and easy in this game! Is it worth 2,99€ ? Eeeeh, not sure, maybe buy it on sale or if you're REALLY into bird games like me or want it for the achievements!
wonderful! a tiny and ponderous survival game with minimal mechanics. completed in 10 minutes and was satisfied. had to play more for review so i went after all achievements... but beware, the achievement to fight our rival bird is frustrating and i gave up. other than that, a fun lil' game.
this is a cute, short game where you have to build up your nest before you get tired. You have multiple obstacles to face such as hunters, snakes, and crows, but also, watch out for that tree! you can pick up seeds, crickets, and apples to restore some stamina as well, and because the game is very short, you don't have to worry about failing.
