Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
This is an educational experience for VR showcasing Roal Amundsen's house. It's like travelling there from your home. While It does have very good photogrammetry, it also has some of the same faults that other apps of this type have. Many of the objects do look like cardboard cutouts along the edges and the teleportation only is pretty bad. This app is running on the Unity Engine. I had no performance issues on my RTX 3080. I did run into an issue where once you get inside the house, you cannot interact with the snowshoes to continue with the experience. However, a simple restart and continue from the house solved the issue. The visuals are almost photo-realistic. The house is very lovely to explore. You get some nice info tidbits in certain objects that are semi-interactable (point and click). Unfortunately, teleporting around the house was a pain because the teleportation worked about less than half the time. Since the house is small though, it wasn't as big a deal as it may have been otherwise. Just a bit frustrating though. I do recommend this free experience for anyone interested in the subject matter. It is odd how they mention how he killed a Polar Bear, penguins, and several birds like it was a ho hum matter. However, it is a realistic peak into the past. Interesting, reminds me of Welcome to light fields. The controls are janky on the index, and weirdly lost tracking like 3 times on the upper floors, which made me pretty dizzy (mind you this almost never happens in any other program). Once you get in the house, the photogrammetry is impressive. For a free experience it's OK.
Excellent photogrammetry and free explore. Controls are a bit of a puzzle and not always responsive. Rift S.
Tested on Quest 2 with link. Well. I hope they continue to work on this, because right now, this is completly useless. Teleport only. Your controllers are HUGE Vive wands (the worst controllers of ALL vr headsetts). I gave up after 3 minutes of testing. The teleport only, in 2020, is outdated and a horrible way to move around. Wont trying it again untill they add smooth locomotion. Edit 13.02.2021: So. The developer of this reached out to me, telling me that they have updated lots of stuff and that I should go back and try it. And so I did. Downloaded it again, fired up virtual desktop so I can use my Quest 2 with steam titles and no cable. Loaded up RAH and got stuck. The very first thing the "game" tells you to do, is to move the thumstick forward to teleport. This does _NOT_ work at all. Nothing happens when i press my thumbstick forward. So.... It's even worse than it was. Imiditate uninstall and I'm never coming back to this, whatsooever, but creds to the developer for trying and reaching out.
Roald Amundsen's House is a free VR educational experience. it worked on my HTC Vive, Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok, was understandable. The photogrammetry was excellent. There are plenty of objects in each room to read about. Select HTC Vive in the controls menu to work with Index. Try this experience to learn about Roald Amundsen and his history.
a perfect virtual tourism program. I went from not caring about people who track to frozen wastelands, to researching strange navigational tools in less than an hour. The scanning technology used was very well done. There are some wonky controls in windows mixed reality, it still works fine with some patience. I hope to see more historical sites preserved in this manner. Most of us will never be able to travel the world and see all these things in person, so praise to the people who make these things for free, it really benefits us all.
İlk kez kendinizi ünlü kaşifin evinde, son teknoloji ürünü çarpıcı fotogrametriye kaptırabilir ve Amundsen'in hayatından ve keşif gezilerinden nesnelerle etkileşime girebilirsiniz.
Pretty smooth and well-done VR experience. Never seen such realistic renders.
Simply extraordinary! Entering Roald's house, in VR, is almost like doing it in reality. The textures and definition of the photogrammetry and design are simply amazing. The history, the objects that you can see up close, consult, the old photos ... It's a marvel of VR experience. Technically quasi-perfect. Recommended for everyone.
