Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 3.56/day in the week to Aug 4 → 6.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Even with all my issues, I still consider this to be my ideal Platform Fighter

its fun
Rivals of Aether 2 is, in all honesty, trying to be Smash on PC. Any positive buzz around it is attached to the fact that is plays like Smash. Even the developer sanctioned tutorial videos will outright tell you "This character plays like this character from Smash." But genres grow in part because new games come out that fit into the mold of "the genre defining game, but with this added to it." Which is why I can recommend the game; I like Smash and this is Smash detached from Nintendo and (more importantly) the Switch 2. I grew up playing Melee, but my rose tinted glasses cracked pretty significantly while attempting to revisit the game several years into Ultimate's tenure (which is technically ongoing as of this review and there's no sign of a new Smash). The community at large will call this game "furry melee" at some level jokingly, but that's not what I'm experiencing here. Because I'm actually really enjoying my time with Rivals of Aether II where playing Melee was a lesson in not always trusting my memories. I can't get too technical as I'm not into any competitive fighting game scene, least of all a platform fighter. I'm certain things like wavedashing, floorhugging, and the advertised ledge/getup/pummel specials are game changers for that side of the community, but I'm not seeing people do a ton of that when I hop into online lobbies. But I am playing online, and I've done that for exactly zero fighting games before this one. I stopped playing fighting games at large after my usual group split up, but I want to play this one so much that I'm playing online. I'm having difficulty articulating exactly why, but I have a few ideas. 1. What complexity is present in the game is fairly intuitive or easily ignored if you're not into getting sweaty over a fighting game. 2. The roster is so reasonable that I can actually remember what each member of the cast does in the midst of a fight (it's about 1/4 the size of Ultimate's roster as of writing this review). 3. Each of those characters have kits complex enough to rival or even surpass Smash's DLC characters (though I will temper this with the fact that literally every character feels like a broken top tier when you're playing against them). 4. While it's definitely furry bait, the designs are genuinely good and I wouldn't feel awkward if somebody at work saw me playing this on a lunch break. 5. This game runs like a dream on Steam Deck and even better on the Steam Machine. I don't have to bring my big rig to a friend's house or on vacations to play the game with others, which is a huge bonus that I can play it locally. 6. The online netcode is great and I've only had one instance where it borked up so bad I lost a match over it. 7. Mechanical content is all included with the game for free including future releases. Any paid content as of writing this review is cosmetic and you can unlock some cosmetics via seasonal events. If I'm entirely honest with myself and whoever is reading this, I like this game specifically because it is just different enough from Smash to feel fresh. But, more importantly, it's a similar experience where I don't have to wrestle with the guilt of giving Nintendo money nor do I have to justify picking up a console for one game. If you like Smash but you don't want to/can't get a Switch 2, I can recommend Rivals of Aether II with my full chest.
Its a very good platformer.
