FOR THE PEOPLE CHECKING OUT THIS GAME AND WONDERING "Do I need friends to play this game?" NOPE! I and a couple other people have solo'd the game and made it to the end of the railway, it is 100% possible! Solo mode gives you a couple of leg-ups that you don't have with multiplayer, like free melons, free keys, and Frank The Automaton. Don't pass this game up, it's a blast solo or with friends! This game had the most robust and most re-playable demo I have ever encountered, and also the only demo in my steam library that has 52+ hours played! I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game, and I'm super looking forward to the full game release, because it's hard to imagine what else they can add, and I look forward to the surprises! It's a time economy game so you have to manage train repairs while watching your health and acquiring enemy train signatures, and at rounds 3,5 & 7, you acquire curses that add difficulty to the rounds. For 2 Players and under, you have a helpful little automaton named Frank to assist you, 3-4 players have to wait to buy Frank as an upgrade. At Rounds 5, 7 & 8, you encounter bosses that are based off of your curse choices, so choose wisely! They have Tutorial mode, Standard Mode, and Choose your Pressure Mode. And if you can make it to the end of the railway, you can add an insane amount of difficulty by choosing Endless Trains mode and adding Mythic tickets to your ticket list, which are -insane-. There are a variety of specialty cars you can choose, such as the Armored Car, The Cleansing Car, The Greenhouse Car, and the Disruptor Car, and a mystery car that you unlock after making it to the end of the railway! All have pros and cons to them, but I definitely have my favorites that change based on the amount of players I am playing with. (I love Disruptor with 2 players and Greenhouse with 3!) All in all, this game is fantastic, absolutely worth a try, and I think everyone should go and play this game!
Traaaaaaiiins! This game is an absolute blast. We've been able to play around with two players, three players, and four players, and it feels like each combo has its own special type of chaos. My favorite moments of the game have definitely been the times where everything is backed up, nearly everyone is wiped out, and one person is left frantically running around with the wrong tool. Also, I know we have to hurry and board the train, but I NEED TO TOSS ALL THE RINGS FIRST.
LOVE this game, it's a riot. Neat little twist on ghost capture type games. I played this before it was released and now I've played it released and I love what they have done with it. 5/5 paws from me. The Good *I really do enjoy this style of game, the camera view works for what you're doing, and the art and visuals makes the game unique. *Love how many different ways you can customize your gameplay. Difficulty modifiers, various train cars, and then there are the attacks that seem to expand as you progress. We've seen quite a few and they're well thought out! *The fact that the two of us could make a full run this time, which we couldn't in pre-release, means they adjusted the overall difficulty and that really made me happy. Love when devs listen to folks. The Not So Good *Seriously all the things I was unsure about in the pre-release seem to be sorted, so I am just a die-hard fan now. NOTHING BAD FROM ME.
Great roguelike with a completely unique setting and gameplay loop. Have only played single player so far, but I'm really enjoying the varied goals and challenges. There's a really cool system where you need to interact with the attacks the enemy train is sending at you in order to defeat it! It also seems to have some legs, with multiple characters to level up and unlock stronger abilities. It's a fun game!
If you like games that you need to work with your friends, this game is for you! Thx for the devs to let me beta-test this game, really enjoy it!
Great coop roguelike. What stands out to me is it's originality with game design but still manages to be very fun. A "run" consists of up to 9 rounds where your crew on a train is equipped to take out a ghost train each round, and the ghost trains get harder to deal with each level. With the gimmick of capturing ghost trains one thinks "ghost busters, right??". Well no, because you're not simply shooting them with a ghost trap and capturing them. A device on your train is powered by ghostly miasma which is as safe to handle as radiation poisoning and fueled by ghosts' "signature attacks" which you have to capture in a vial, also routinely putting you in harms way. And if that wasn't enough to micromanage, the ghosts are keen on not only hurting you (poor babies don't want to be captured), but to damage your train, so you'll be busy welding breaches on the roofs of train cars, fixing ladders to climb up to them, along with antennae and other components of the elaborate anti ghost train machinery built for the purpose of exorcising these evil spirits. Original premise, right?? Yet very very fun. Game design for repairs reminds me of Among Us mini games wherein you repair the spaceship. All of Rhyolite's mini games are very well done, and completing them efficiently and accurately completes the repair job faster, saving precious seconds you often need to get away before dropping dead from spectral attacks. Roguelike game design between levels with upgrades might remind you of Slay the Spire. These are randomized and you'll want to make choices for what materials or upgrades you get based on the crew's needs with money you earn from capturing ghost trains. Diabolically clever here is the fact that after some levels you don't get to choose an upgrade but have to select one of three curses, and are torn over discerning the least of three evils for the rest of the run. Do I want to put up with a gravity orb that constantly pulls every crew member toward it so you have to constantly move in the opposing direction to counteract this ephereal tide? Or would I rather deal with a greedy passenger ghost who grabs tools and things you need as the lost spirit roams from train car to train car, accumulating more worldly materials he doesn't need because his ass is totally dead? Or would I rather just face the fury of quadruple the ghostly signature attacks at the start of the encounter with a ghost train each round for the remainder of that run? If losing a "run" and having to start over feels discouraging, it's nice to know there are several classes you can choose from and as they level up on your account, their class upgrades are a permanent thing you keep in any and all subsequent playthroughs with that character. Imagine my joy when my mechanic got to level 3 and I could make repairs without a toolbox so I could carry a welder around and not have to go back and forth to retrieve either welder or toolbox based on the repair job that needed to be done asap. This saved so much time and I could perform other jobs to assist the crew with the myriad of other tasks that needed to be completed in a short amount of time. Solid fun game music to complete the experience. My one beef with the game is I feel like the first 3 rounds are boringly easy and it doesn't get really interesting until round 4. I've never completed a full run and the game is plenty challenging. I think furthest I've made is round 7. Now I see in settings there is some difficulty modifier you can add once you complete a run of 9 rounds but until then, the first three are easy enough to the point of feeling a little bit dull. Maybe this is just me and other players appreciate the respite before the game starts to throw everything at you with no relief in sight until the bitter end. Intense, rock solid game. I highly recommend you buy this! A bargain at $10 and sometimes even goes on sale!
Awesome game! I played in early access as well. It's a pretty unique take on the cooperative, rougelike genre. Power-ups are interesting and the enemies are different. Good replay value and single player is good.
All my ladders are broken, I'm out of sheet metal, a ghost keeps stealing my melons, and I exploded. 10/10
This game is an hidden gem, I had to chance to see it grow everyday, see the dev pour passion into this project and they made a fun game. I recommend!
