So, here’s what you get for this reasonable price: Lure of the Temptress – Considered abandonware. Amiga version, regarded as the best version. Beneath a Steel Sky (Amiga) – Available for free on Steam (thanks for not delisting it). Broken Sword 1 & 2 (PlayStation versions) – These games are already available on Steam and in superior editions in my opinion (although it has controller support). For each games you have optionnal scanlines that match the game's resolution and you can adjust their opacity. It’s a nice touch, though nowhere near the quality of a good Retroarch CRT shader. Still, it’s above average compared to most commercial “CRT filters.” Only 3 save slots per game. Steam achievements. The presentation is good, probably in the same theme as "Antstream Arcade" (more on that later): all game manuals are included, along with plenty of concept art and a bit of historical context. If I could leave a neutral review, I would. But it kinda feels like a cash grab—albeit a well-packaged one. So far, Antstream hasn’t gone after the free ways of enjoying these games like Nintendo tends to do, but I’m not sure I want to encourage this kind of product. Do I regret my purchase? No. Will I play these PlayStation versions I loved as a kid? Probably in the future. Do I recommend these versions of these games? Not really. Was the work by Antstream well done? Yes. There’s a part of me that fears if Antstream gets big, they’ll eventually target the old-school emulation scene, especially since they’re building a legal subscription-based emulation platform (“Antstream Arcade”). But maybe I’m a bit paranoid, as it's usually the publisher that does this kind of things. Only time will tell
Played Lure of the Temptress on Atari ST, Amiga and now wanted to finish the game on PC - however, it is bugged and I am unable to finish just few screens before the end of the game. Minnow, the boy supposed to deliver the message to Skorl in the castle is stuck in place and won't move - save reload does not help, he is always stuck after talking to him on any of the screens - cellar, kitchen, etc. Even tried earlier save and he just won't move. What a shame and waste of time.... I don't recommend buying this broken version of a game...
I love this, real nostalgia for the PS1 versions Broken Sword 1 & 2. The different galleries, history pages, and the original soundtracks for the games are a nice touch. I really liked the Lure of the Temptress OST despite never playing the game. There are loads of screen options like 4:3, 16:9, scanlines & scanline visability, screen surrounds, and in game mouse speed options. Each game gets 3 saves which I've started to use so that I can play the game in the future from different points, not sure if I'll do this for every game. The over all presentation is great with nice attention to detail. I wish the intro music was louder and why did they not include the trailer for this game in the gallery? I would have also liked to have seen more concept art from the different games.
Charles Cecil is a legend!
It is lovely to see a retro collection that uses the Amiga versions for once. This contains the Amiga version of Lure of the Temptress, the Amiga CD32 version of Beneath a Steel Sky - and the PlayStation 1 version of Broken Sword 1 and 2. Whilst Lure and BaSS are available for free in official capacity, that is the DOS version. This collection is special because it is worth preserving these alternate versions - the Amiga sound chip makes this version of Lure the best one to play in my opinion. For a few dollars per game you get a nice presentation, Steam Achievement support, and four absolute classics in their genre.
Really cool collection, nice surprise!
Recommended for hardcore fans only. I bought it due to the PSX versions of BS 1 and 2, with many fond memories being had with those versions. I wouldn't buy if you played them on PC first. I wasn't interested in Lure of the temptress and Beneath a steel sky, but will probably give beneath a steel sky a go.
